The food and service was superb. While we didn't make the news like John and Yoko for staying here, we enjoyed our visit. Lovely views of the canal from our room and the lobby. The bar/lunch area was cozy with chairs and sofas and a fireplace.

We stayed with 2 children in connecting rooms. Check in was easy and friendly. The atmosphere in the hotel is one of calm and luxury. There is an feeling of grandeur because of the nice finishing of the rooms and halls/lobby. The rooms are quiet but hot. The windows don’t open….and the airco has a lot of work to cool the rooms. We loved the room with it’s nice details, carpets and fantastic bathroom/shower. The view even at street side is nice. Breakfast was very good, lot’s of choices, friendly staff and good products. We had dinner at Roberto s which was delicious. We were a bit disappointed that the coffee bar did not open during our stay. The terras bar is wonderful. Overall we enjoyed our stay and we’re especially charmed by the staff. Always interested and ready to help with some personal tips and stories. They we’re great! We hope to come back.

Dear Bart V, Thank you for taking the time to share feedback of your stay on TripAdvisor. I'm happy to know that you had such a nice experience at our hotel! We are fortunate to be located in a peaceful and tranquil neighborhood, and are proud of our history as the first international hotel that opened in the Netherlands. Thank you as well for visiting Roberto's Restaurant, both for dinner and for breakfast. Our team works hard to provide delicious food with outstanding service. At this time, coffee is served in both Roberto's and our Half Moon Lounge or Garden Terrace, weather permitting. Please accept my sincere apologies that you were not entirely comfortable in the room due to the weather. Our windows actually can be opened to allow some fresh air upon signing a safety authorization form with the front desk. I'm sorry if we did not have the opportunity to do this during this stay, however we will certainly be able to assist on your next visit. On behalf of our entire team at Hilton Amsterdam, we thank you for staying with us, and we look forward to seeing you next time! Warm regards, Maria Ghebresselasie General Manager

We stay here every other year when we come to visit family in the neighborhood. Perhaps due to Covid, this was the first time we were able to get into our room in the morning after our all night flight from JFK. We were also upgraded, and the front desk staff couldn’t have been nicer. The same was true when we were preparing to leave the country. The front desk arranged to print the documents we needed to fly, and thoughtfully even offered us a big envelope. Edgar, the host in the outside bar, was especially helpful and kind. Edgar, who was the gist fir the lively bar that overlooks the canal was extremely helpful when my 90 year old cousin- not super mobile- joined 7 of us for cocktails.

Recently stayed here for a weekend. It was our 4th stay within the last 12 months and unfortunately we won't be back for a while since the Diamond benefits (that were excellent during our previous 3 stays) have been seriously downgraded. Only a modest upgrade to an executive room (plenty of junior suites were available when I checked), reduced choices for happy hour drinks (limited to 2 per person) and extremely limited snacks provided (I am not kidding when I say that they obviously budget 1€ pp to create these snacks). Breakfast was good (but charging extra for benedict eggs is a bit nitpicking). We won't rush back, there are definitely better value options to be found in Amsterdam at the moment (also for non-elite guests).

I had already been eyeing this property to stay especially during the current pandamic due to the "reasonable" price - already postponed by stay a few times based on the rules of the period - finally carried out my stay especially thinking in current times, service will be close to normal especially opening of the Executive lounge. This is the first Hilton hotel in the Netherlands with lots of history - from both bright and dark points. Location This property is located south of the main city centre of Amsterdam, about 20 mins walk from Amsterdam Zuid train/metro station which is very convenient for the train to Schiphol. Walking to the hotel from this transport hub is very doable with limited luggage, but could be slightly more workout with larger baggage, but still very doable since it's a flat walk and along nicely green areas. This area of Amsterdam is one of the best you can experience with a nice balance of greens, housing and shops. Closes tourist attraction would be to the museum district - a walk of maybe 15 mins from the hotel or 5 mins to the nearest tram/bus stop where you can reach most of the tourist attractions around Amsterdam. Check In I had wanted to do an online check-in since the hotel offered digital key, but seeing these days it is the norm to always drop by the front desk I did not. I did notice I was already been assigned a higher category room - Executive floor canal view - and wanted to try my luck to see if they will offer me at least a Jr. Suite during in-person check-in. I arrived just after 2 pm at the hotel to quite a grand modernized lobby area. There were only a couple of guests waiting in the sitting area. Went to check-in and found out that the room was not ready and informed that the room will be ready only after 3 pm - they will give me a call. My check-in process was passed from the initial front-desk associate to the Duty Manager. I did ask about if there would be any upgrade to a suite, but was told the hotel was rather full. I did not push for it although I knew that suites were available since just before (and after) I checked and I could still for that 1 night stay book up to 4 suites. This was actually also my first time in a long time that arriving after lunch time no room was ready. Looks like the Hilton guarantee of rooms stay free 24 hours before next use is not in effect anymore. I did request to just wait around in the Half Moon lounge/bar (the temporarily lounge in current situation). Ended up waiting close to 3.45pm before getting my room (and that was after going to the fron desk to check around 3.30pm). Room The room was located on the 9th floor (the 10th floor is the location of the usual Executive Lounge). Rooms and floor are only accessible with a key card. I was quite impressed that they maintained the lift since the hotel was there (back in 1969) which does add a bit of nostalgia to this historical property. In general I thought that they did quite a good job in maintaining the historical aspect of the hotel while bringing it to current times - a good mix of old and new. This was carried on to both hallways and rooms. The room with the large windows was bright - again clearly modernized yet with touches of the 70's/retro touches especially with the furniture. Aside from the design part, the room was on the small side - I was quite surprised especially from the large structure of the building from outside. I do wonder for guests with more than 1 piece of large baggage how much more space would there be left. There was no real working desk - it was mainly what I would say a vanity table seat (without any backrest) to sit on or on the retro sofa if you had to work from the room. Besides the long TV/working desk table, there was another small side table next to the sofa. The minibar was emptied out for personal use - at the same area was coffee/tea making facilities. This is also where I found it strange that there was no more exclusive items like a Nespresson or capsule coffee provided for an Executive floor room. In general - I am confused with the additional amenities for these rooms compared to the basic/deluxe rooms. For those who do not drink water from the tap - there was also no complimentary bottle of water provided. Other than that, there were quite a number of electrical/USB sockets added including next to the bedside table, ironing board, iron and hairdryer provided. The bathroom was also on the smaller side with a bathtub/shower and a spacious washtable. Water pressure and temperature control was good. Wifi was fast and stable - logging in either with the code provided or via your room number does automatically provide elite members with the premium speed. Executive Lounge The executive lounge was still closed at this property - I was informed that this was because based on current distancing rule, the area is not able to accommodate the number of eligible guests. Truthfully I do question this - based on how far guests were sitting from each other in the temporarily lounge, Halfmoon Lounge/bar. Guests eligible for the lounge can throughout the day, get at this lounge coffee/tea/softdrinks. Between 6-8pm, each guests are only limited to 2 services per person, house wine, beer and sparking wine. There will also be a small service of hors d'oevres provided (they will accommodate based on your food allergy/preferences). During the weekend I was there, I was informed that it would be busy - I suspected that when this area becomes full, the overflow area would be at the funtion room down the hall. Comparing this to the Hilton in the Hague, which also still has a temp. lounge - the offerings here was quite weak. Breakfast Breakfast is offered at the signature restuarnat of the property, Roberto's. It was a mix of a la-carte breakfast where the cold items are served on a serving tier set and the hot items are order based. Some of the made to-order items does require an additional supplementary payment - mainly egg items like Egg Florentine, Eggs Benedicts, Egg Royale, etc. This was for me an acceptable concept - more than sufficient and indeed a more luxurious compared to buffett style. Only I find it weird that (even at 4€ supplement) to nick and pick here for these items where at most other properties are just included. Service All in all, staff in general are friendly and helpful. It was clearly that service especially the breakfast staff service was a notch higher in fineness compared to other properties. Overall All in all, the stay was OK - I am not too sure if I set my bar too high in expectation, but from value point of view and elite recognition, this property sits at the bottom of my list among all the Hilton Hotel properties in the country. (unless the only one left on my list to visit Hilton Schiphol does worst). If I had to pay the same price as what I paid at this property for a Hilton affliated property in Amsterdam my business will go to the Doubletree Central station - where the elite recognition is so much more freely given despite them having no lounge. Even at the DT NDSM - I am more valued for my loyalty compared to this property.

I appreciate your nice comments about the service provided by our team, our classic look and feel and the quality of our breakfast. However, I truly apologize for the areas in which we fell short, and I regret that overall you were not satisfied with your stay. As an Elite tier Honors member, you are one of our most valued and loyal guests, and I regret if you were not made to feel this way during your stay. I'm very sorry that your stay got off to a rough start with the wait for your room to be ready. This is certainly not the experience that we wish for our guests to have, and I appreciate your patience as our team worked to prepare the room for you. I'm pleased to share with you that based on feedback from our guests, we have recently introduced a new buffet style setup for our executive guest offerings. This is served in our exclusive Canal Section of our Roberto's Restaurant. I hope that you would consider staying with us again in the future so that you can experience our new offerings. We value and respect you as our guest and would love the opportunity to have you stay with us a second time, as I'm confident that on a return stay we would be able to provide you the experience that you can expect as an Honors member. Thank you for staying with us, and please let me know if I can be of any further assistance. Warm regards, Maria Ghebresselasie General Manager
