Detailed Reviews
As everyone has said, great breakfast. We typically used the breakfast leftovers as a packed lunch to take with us. Used the bikes René had at a very reasonable rental rate of 5 euro/day/bike. Note they have pedal brakes, so take a run down the street to get used to them.
Really warm in the boat. Has underfloor heating and works great.
Comfortable bed and great shower with good water pressure. Good selection of books and DVDs if you want a quiet night in (which we always did after being out on bikes and walking all day).
René is a great host and isn't intrusive but also gives you all the info you need.
We will return to this spot and will recommend to others.

We were lucky enough to stay here during a recent trip to Amsterdam. The boat is a little out of town in the East of the city, but no more than a 30-40 mins walk to the Centraal Station (same to Anne Frank Haus and Van Gogh Museum) and there is a tram stop right nearby for days we felt lazier. The windmill nearby was a great marker point the first few times so we knew we were nearly home! The flat had everything you could possibly need; was very clean and lovely and warm. Rene was a really friendly host and the breakfast he left every morning was fabulous. More than enough for breakfast and lunch - in fact we felt bad not having managed to eat and drink everything he provided. One of the highlights was sitting out on the edge of the boat feeding the ducks some crumbs every day. I would highly recommend and book again if we return to Amsterdam in the future.

Where to start ?
The location is great, 3 minutes walk from the bus stop to be directly at the central station.
Quiet, comfortable, warm accommodation, with everything you need in terms of equipment.
Seen directly on the water...what relaxation.
Breakfast ? A box with different foods every day and very generous which is left at our door..
And finally, René who is just great! Available, smiling, good advice etc...

The nicest thing I've ever done for myself was a trip to Amsterdam to celebrate my birthday, but the smartest thing was finding, booking and staying on Rene's houseboat. It made a memorable trip...perfect. It's close enough and far away at the same time. You're in the city in an instance, but when you come home (and it will feel like home) it's peaceful and serene. You'll awake in the morning to a basket of goodies and come home to the always smiling Rene. I never felt like a tourist. I'd pass by hotels choked with travelers holding maps and bags and looking confused and I'd grin to myself. The space is clean and tastefully decorated, you have your own private entrance, he has bikes to rent (cheaper than anywhere in the city) and if you just want to stay at home and relax there are videos, a slew of guidebooks and paperbacks to read. I'm keeping my fingers crossed it will be available next March, because I'm definitely going back! Thank you, Rene!

We had a rather wonderful time staying on this 'boat'.
From the central station hop on tram 26(buy a 24hr tram ticket for (available on the tram) 7.50 euros-great value) to Rietlandpark then head toward two red buildings you see as you come up out of the tram stop, on the canal first boat on your left, just below a bridge.
There is an abundance of security around the boat house, all making you feel rather safe, and whilst it is situated quite close to a main road the noise from the traffic is minimal at worst.
The room (as really that is what it is) , with a bathroom adjoined, is seperated by a commodious wardrobe. Fully equipped with tv, all usual kitchen appliances and a nifty coffee machine (coffee bags provided and various teas), there is also a stereo secreted away in a cupboard beneath the tv- take your favourite Cds- wish I had known in advance!!
Now I guess this is inevitable, with it being on water- but be prepared for mozzies- we had them and it was october.
One or two minor criticisms- No bath towels, we had to use lots of hand towels, don't know if this was the norm or not. The shower is a fixed square unit, so if you want to avoid wetting your hair (almost impossible ) take a shower cap.
Breakfast arrives on your doorstep each morning in a basket laden with Yoghurt, fruit juices, bread, cheese cold meats and salami- fruit is also provided. We made sarnies for lunch each day- there is a huge amount !
Nice big comfy bed, but couldn't find extra pillows. It was all very clean and tidy. Each morning we were greeted by moorhens and a heron on the canal- rather sweet actually.
About 400 yrads back towards the tram stop there is a 'cafe', which is quite a good restaurant bar we ate in one evening- not bad if you dont fancy going into Amsterdam for your evening meal.
All in all a good place to stay, with a nice airy feel about it, away from the hub bub of the city but close enough to access the high spots with ease- recommended even with tyhe slight niggles we experienced.

My sister and I spent 2 nights at the Bed & Breakfast Boat. The houseboat is extremely clean, neat, cosy and comfortable, complete with good wifi, couch, coffee maker, good heater (for winter/early spring), and super nice and friendly host, Rene. The houseboat is spacious, and has its own entrance/exit, so you would have absolute privacy. Rene, the owner, stays in the houseboat area just next-door and is readily available whenever you need help. He provides generous servings of breakfast in a basket placed at the doorstep every morning, which includes fresh breads/buns from the nearby bakery, milk, fruit juice, fruits, yogurts and various spreads. We used the extras from breakfast to make sandwiches to bring out during the day. He was also very very kind to offer to drive us to the Centraal Station with our suitcases, so that we can catch a direct train to the Schiphol airport early in the morning when we checked out.
While the houseboat might not located very centrally, it is situated in a very safe and nice neighbourhood. The nearest tram stop is less than 5 minutes walk away, and brings you to Dam Square and other metro stations, so you can still access everywhere pretty easily.
I cannot emphasize how much we love staying at the houseboat. it was so enjoyable and relaxing to stay in such a cosy and tranquil place, living on the waters and waking to random quacks from the ducks, that we really didn't want to leave the place. It was hard getting out of the house, cos it's so comfortable.
This accommodation was definitely the highlight of my Amsterdam trip, and I highly recommend everyone to come here for an authentic and wonderful Amsterdam vacation.

My wife and I stayed at the boat over Christmas( 23rd-27th).
The boat is a fantastic place to stay, really easy to find, just hope on a 22 bus and get off at het funen.
Rene gives you a fabulous breakfast box every morning, which is enough to make lunch up as well, the boat itself is very comfy, with a great rainfall shower and big comfy bed, there is a stereo and tv and DVDs, but we only really slept there as there is so much to do. Rene even gave us a lift to the train station on the day we left. This is the 3rd time we have been to Amsterdam, and we will definitely be back, and we will always stay at the bed breakfast boat!
Thank you Rene, see you soon!

First of all, a huge thank you to our host for the past 5 days, Rene.
Over the past 5 weeks my fiancé and I have travelled England, Belgium and The Netherlands, and the Bed Breakfast Boat has been our most memorable and enjoyable stay by far.
Not only is the house boat equipped with everything you could ever need, but all the home comforts are possibly the nicest you will find while traveling outside of plush hotels, in places that offer a more personal experience.
We received fresh flowers on arrival, a fridge stocked with all the necessities, a great coffee machine that churns out ridiculously good coffee and a large double bed so comfortable that it's hard to get out.
Every morning our breakfast box arrived full of fresh bread, fruit, yoghurt, cheeses and more. It's touches like this that put the Bed Breakfast Boat miles ahead of the rest!
With public transport right on your doorstep, a great local neighborhood and bikes at your disposal, it is quite easy to pass the time without even heading into the tourist crazed centre of The Dam.
What Rene has done with the house boat is incredible and we will fully recommend it to all family and friends!
Thank you for a fantastic stay before a long flight back to Australia!

Staying in a boat house was truly one of the great experiences we had in Amsterdam. The room was very spacious for the price we paid and nicely segregated into the bedroom and the living room area. Waking up to the tranquility of the canals in the morning with the occasional swans and ducks swimming by is definitely something that cannot be experienced in a typical hotel right in the city.
There are so many modes of transportation in Amsterdam and travelling to the city is very convenient. You can choose to cycle to the city, like how the Dutch do. Otherwise, there is bus 22 just 5 mins walk away or tram 10 / 14 which is just 10 mins walk away. The owner Rene has city maps ready, and there are a lot of guidebooks in the room. There are restaurants and supermarket nearby as well.
Unlike a typical hotel stay, Rene made our 5 days 4 night stay a very personal one. He was always very approachable and willing to share about Netherlands. The breakfast he prepared for us was sumptuous and we often had more to pack for lunch.
However, just one tiny shortcoming about the room is the bathroom, which has no place for hanging clothes. Otherwise, it was a fantastic stay!

Hi Siew Li, Thank you so much for your support and comforting words. It was truly a pleasure to have you as guests. As said...you were extremely active guests squeezing every minute of your stay to see, feel, hear, taste and smell Amsterdam and its surroundings. I loved your interest in everything that Amsterdam has to offer and particularly your questions about bike behaviour ;) Hope to see you back some day in Amsterdam. I will make sure I will have organized a solution about the lack of hangers in the bathroom. You are absolutely right about that! Njoy! René

We were going to Amsterdam for a few days and I searched for accommodation. One of the searches threw up the Bed Breakfast Boat, sounded like fun so I contacted the owner (Rene) and it turned out the boat was free when we wanted it. Rene is the perfect host - fridge etc. was well stocked with all the essentials with fresh fruit, croissants, bread etc. being delivered for breakfast each day. We had to ask him to stop on our last day as we couldn't keep up! The living & bed space is very spacious and everything was immaculately clean and tidy. On our arrival Rene took the time to point out all the features and give us tips on where to eat & shop. The boat has books, TV, DVD, Netflix etc. so no shortage of things to do if you are having a quiet night in! The boat is a short (15 mins) tram ride from Centraal station but you could probably walk it in 25 minutes - it's on the same road as the station to the east. Boat was priced reasonably against staying in a city centre hotel! Bottom line is this is a fantastic way to stay in Amsterdam and we will definitely be staying with Rene on our next trip.

Dear Roisin,
Thank you so much for your reservation request. Unfortunately I have to inform you that the Bed Breakfast Boat is already fully booked for the dates you would like to stay.
We hope we may welcome you some other time. Click here to go to the website and add it to your favorites.
May I suggest an alternative? The Volkshotel, also located in the bubbly East of Amsterdam, is a great place to stay. It boasts rooms varying from cosy 2 person, spacious 4 bedded rooms and special custom designed rooms. Moreover, the Volkshotel offers a fantastic offer of different public spaces such as a relaxing lobby lounge, a rooftop restaurant and club, the terrace an outdoor spa to the 24 hour club downstairs in the weekends. It's truly a great place to be!
Should you be interested in booking a room in the Volkshotel please click here and don't forget to mention your promocode "BBB" which gives you 5% off the published rates.
I hope to be able to welcome you at the Bed Breakfast Boat next time!
Warm regards,
Rene
One half is yours and other is the owners, there is a seating area out the front of the boat and the window in your room over looks the canals and that's where you have breakfast! Would definetly recommend it me and my other half loved it!!
Hi Ginny, thanks for your message. The price for two persons for 3 days in May 2016 is 375 including breakfast and taxes. A third person would be 90 euro extra so in total 465 for three days. Divide these rates by 3 an multiply by 4 and you have the four night rate. If you are interested in booking then just fill in a request at my website. bedbreakfastboat-dot-nl Hope to see you in 2016! René
Dear sir/madam, unfortunately the Bed Breakfast Boat is already booked for these dates. I can recommend the Volkshotel, also in the east part of Amsterdam.
Enjoy the city!
