This unusual creative decorated and renovated apartment has style! Besides, it is cultural heritage and has stories to tell. So has the environment, for instance the Westerpark. In two minutes walking you will be in a green, relaxing, but roaring place where you can enjoy a walk through nature, through breweries, coffeehouses and terraces. Note: it is an apartment, so no breakfast room of what so ever. But, a fully equiped kitch at your disposal.

What a 'Gem' of a place, we were originally looking to stay on a houseboat in Amsterdam but couldn't get booked. We then stumbled upon this place and are so glad we did. It is a fantastic compact but comfortable and out of the ordinary apartment. Not too far from the centre of Amsterdam, we cycled it most of the time but did easily walk it one night, local supermarkets, Trams and Buses also within walking distance. The inside was surprisingly spacious and the decor was very modern, we felt very special staying there. The Owner was extremely helpful and accomodating on our arrival, but we were then left in peace, (we were told any problems just to contact her), but thankfully all went well, we even managed to google English instructions for the Combi Microwave! It was great that there was an abundance of freshly laundered towels, candles, WiFi and above all a very comfortable bed. We couldn't have asked for more, although my husband did say cheekily, 'fluffy dressing gowns'. It was a perfect place for a relaxing/romantic break.

When I went looking for a different Amsterdam accommodation I had no idea I would end up in this odd little place. Completely unique, charming, and peaceful. Small enough to feel cozy yet big enough to make you feel at home.

We booked this hotel based on the reviews on trip advisor. it really lived up to expectation. The house is lovely. when standing outside it, you feel like a goldfish in a bowl as it is in the middle of three blocks of apartments, but once inside, you are in your own little provate bubble and it is great. Underfloor heating in the kitchen, a toasty little house, very comfortable bed and all the crockery you need, this is a great option for staying in Amsterdam. The walk into Amsterdam is enjoyable and there are pleanty of trams and buses nearby anyway. Liesbeth the owner was very helpful and gave us all the information we needed for our stay there. I woujld stay there again if I went back.

I was in Amsterdam for a conference at the Westergasfabriek, and found this small, enticing hotel just 5 minutes away by foot (there are no other hotels in the immediate vicinity). Amazing! It has everything you need to live in its 3 compact stories: fully-equipped kitchen with washing machine and dishwasher, wi-fi, living area, comfortable bedroom/closet/bath. We arrived before check-in, but were allowed to leave our bags and check out the neighborhood while the Windketl was being cleaned. A bus can take you directly to Cantraal Station, a tram to the museum area. You can walk to the Jordaan and its restaurants or just hang out in the Westerpark. We entertained some friends one evening -- all of whom are now jealous of us, and also ready to book the Windketel the next time they are in Amsterdam!.

De Windketel is a one bedroom apartment on three floors just a 15 min tram from the Central Station. Completely furnished with kitchen, with all you need to prepare a full meal; you can move right in! Outside, it is quite unusual: a little brick tower, a converted steam valve for the pumping station across the street, located in a little square that has no car traffic. It's definitely the place to go to if you want to feel like a local. The area is Westerpark, my new favourite area in Amsterdam: across the street is a converted pumping station turned into a restaurant, next door is a natural food snack shop with wholesome sandwiches, soup and whole grain breads, then there is Westerpark itself, cool restaurants with outdoor space, a natural park and a gas reservoir turned into an events space. Next time I plan to explore this area and I may not even bother to go "downtown". Fantastic place.

Stayed for 6 nights. Had attended a conference held in the Westerpark just cross the street. The building is very special by itself. I especially like the sitting room at the second floor. The speaker has a line for my iPod so I could enjoy music there without using earphone, the acoustic effect was excellent. Sleep quality is superb, despite the bus stop is just 30 meters away, the other residence buildings block off the noise from the street. The Westerpark cross the street is a wonderful place to have a walk and for bird watching. Two pairs of Egyptian geese were sighted on 2 separate days. There are many eateries inside the park, one of which offers Belgium beers like Chouffe and Affligem on tap. Although the hotel is not at the city centre, walking to the Centrum is just ~ 30 min, otherwise bus No 21 takes me to the Ceentral Station and it has many services in an hour. The No 10 tram's terminal station is about 50 meters away and it goes to the museums near Vondelpark. There are supermarkets and bakeries in walking distance. Absolutely convenient for the apartment stay in the hotel. Ms Koning is a very kind person and she got me some bread and juice on my day of arrival. Overall my stay there was extremely pleasant.

We found this place by chance and are very happy about that. Located in a quiet area with an excellent restaurant 15m away as well as a tram station (Line 10) nearly in front of this small house infrastructure was close to perfect. The interior of this house is (except for an oven) really good. We can recomend this place warmly to everybody who is capabel of climbing steep stairs. Thus he or she is, will have an excellent place to spend time in Amsterdam. In case you want to have a big bathroom....here you won't find it. But nearly everything else!

We spent a week long honeymoon in Hotel De Windketel and it was pure heaven. The hotel is located near major walking and biking streets for easy sightseeing, but the placement of the structure behind the larger apartment building makes this a quiet oasis. We felt perfectly secluded while still in the middle of things. The neighboring Westerpark is filled with great restaurants, we loved being walking distance to a great Art Deco movie theatre The Movies (15 min), and walking distance (20 - 30 min) to all the great shopping in the Jordaan neighborhood. With a great bike rental shop located steps from the front door, we were able to easily bike around all of Amsterdam's gorgous parks. The hotel was clean, spacious for two and beautifully designed. The space had two TVs, two bathrooms, a dishwasher, a toaster, a coffee maker with some coffee to get us started, plenty of pots and pans for cooking, a hair dryer (!) and three floors of very well used space. The staff was warm, helpful and responsive over email. We loved it. We were so sad to leave!
