The hotel is simply classic and beautiful. Intercontinental did very well in maintaining the classic interior and even the lift looks like those you saw in oldies movies. I find it amusing to be in the lift but rather creepy as well at night with the dark wooden interior. The room is very classic as well. I dislike the bed...

We spent six nights at the InterContinental Amstel, our first stop on a four-city vacation. Conveniently situated on the Amstel River with beautiful water views and easy access to tram lines, the Hotel exudes classic style. Our room (an Executive, with River view) was truly spacious and very well equipped. Although we didn't have an opportunity to dine at the...

On our last day in Amsterdam we had booked a Royal Afternoon tea for our group of four. The service by the trainee was impeccable and she was knowledgeable and chatty and it was a very enjoyable two hours.

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighborhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
