I arrived late from the airport, and there was nobody to assist me with the luggage, while there are stairs to the reception. Receptionist at the check in was not very welcoming to be honest. I went out to grab a bite and when I came back, there was 3 employees at the front desk, which barely looked up when I returned. I waited to ask question about the facilities and the breakfast, which they seemed annoyed about as I seemed to have interrupted a conversation. BUT, in the morning, it seem like completely different hotel with staff which truly represent the brand and the beautiful property. Location of the hotel is great, even though it is a long walk to the city center. Rooms are beautifully decorated and again the staff during the day time are 5 star.

Hotel's Favorite
Great hotel on the waterfront! the restaurant is top quality and again, the staff are extremely well trained and helpful. Air Canada lost my luggage and the staff ensured I got new prescriptions, helped us find shops to replace items and made us as comfortable as they could. I cannot imagine a better place to stay in Amsterdam.

I live in Amsterdam and have often enjoyed walking past this beautiful building. We decided to stay here for our anniversary as we didn't have time to travel, and and I can say it is just as beautiful on the inside too! Fabulous service, large classically decorated rooms, quiet, extremely comfy beds.. everything we could have wanted for a luxurious treat!

Old world charm with lovely flowers and paintings every where you look, with excellent staff….located right on the Amstel river with plenty of outside terrace space to enjoy views of the river….we arrived way to early but were pleasantly surprise to hear those coveted words “your room is ready” could not have been nicer…the room was fairly spacious with lovely view. Large bathroom…our AM X program included breakfast which had something for everyone…plus you could order off the menu. Also ate dinner there as we had an early star the next day….make sure you have the bread with aioli dip…and the potato soup…again great friendly staff….would go bad for sure.

The staff was unfailingly helpful. The room we ultimately stayed in was well appointed and with great views. We enjoyed the food staff's attention, knowledge and kindness. This will be our go to in Amsterdam for the foreseeable future.

After reviewing all of the luxury style hotels in the Amsterdam area, my wife and I selected the Amstel Intercontinental for our anniversary eight-night visit and we were VERY glad we did. The courteous service started before our arrival with confirmation e-mails and offers of assistance from the Reservations Agent Katerina Conner, who immediately assisted us with offers of help during our stay. Upon our arrival the reception clerk Julie was extremely kind in her welcoming attitude and more offers of assistance plus we received a very nice treat in our room that first evening as a gift for our anniversary. In the dining hall, Victor took care of us most mornings and was very kind. The Concierge Peter Moos assisted us when we had a problem with our I Amsterdam card and contacted the agency and was able to get the matter worked out in our favor with no concern to us. Plus, he answered several questions regarding the City and many of the museums and attractions. When we had a small plumbing problem, they immediately took care of it. The breakfast each morning was fantastic and we had a great view of the river every day as the staff attended to our and everyone's needs. The food was great and plentiful. The location of the hotel was very convenient to the tram lines and made getting around to see the various sights a breeze. The hotel itself was constructed beginning in 1867 and maintains a beautiful European ambiance that many do not. It gives the flavor of being a large facility when it actually houses only 79 rooms and several conference spaces. It sits right on the river and offers beautiful views from many rooms and the dining facilities. This is a quality facility and should be a part of your selection process while staying in Amsterdam. If you are considering good location, good ambiance, good food, great staff a necessity, then look no further.

Me and my girlfriend booked Amsterdam as a first little getaway away from our baby girl since she arrived. It was our three year anniversary also so we were both really excited for some free time. When we arrived at the hotel all be it very early. We were blown away at how beautiful the hotel was inside and out! We wanted to drop off our bags so we weren't lugging them round with us whilst doing the tourist lark. That's when we met their most incredible staff member Julie. I'm not exaggerating when I say she made our trip, she went above and beyond to make our stay both luxurious and memorable. She was so informative of things to do round the city and her recommendations for food etc. Julie is an absolute credit to this fantastic hotel. We simply cannot wait to return. I loved the hotel's decor; it was a joy to walk through the property. The rooms were well-apportioned. I loved the breakfasts at the hotel. The hotel is conveniently located near a metro stop. I cannot recall a single annoyance.
