The location is outstanding - as someone said before a quiet haven in Amsterdam. When we arrived, our rooms were not ready. A very friendly and helpful staff member took care of us and made us feel welcome. The formalities should be dealt with during our trip through the city. After returning from our three-hour trip, we were alarmed not to find all our bags in one place. Part of the luggage had been brought to the rooms already (Of cause to the wrong ones). The friendly staff member had been replaced by someone else who explained to us that access to the room will be granted via email/ app. The email to open the room door did not work throughout the stay and had to be replaced by a card and as the card stopped working the next morning an email was needed to open the door. The rooms were elegantly furnished and lived up to the expectation. The beds were too soft. The mattress was worn out. The AC was unexpectedly noisy for such a high-class hotel. Breakfast: The friendly staff needed encouragement to supply the necessities. Despite a fully equipped kitchen only hard broiled eggs were available. Some of the freshly "baked" bread was still frozen inside. We also would have loved to chat with the staff behind the bar, but they were busy doing administrative stuff presenting their backs towards us.

Dear Mr Kettlack, thank you for comments. It is correct that we were experiending disruptions in our key system and now it has been fixed. We will pay attention to the luggage and our continental breakfast buffet which is complimentary during your stay . In regards to the bar we were under assumpion that your group were enjoying a talk with each other and we did not want to interrupt your conversation. Should you wish to stay again with us the entire team will be glad to have a chat with you! Kind regards, Lisa de Kloe

We stayed here 4 nights, and couldn't have been happier with the accommodation and the staff. As others have mentioned, the hotel is well-located and within walking distance of nearly anything you might want to do. At the same time, it's relatively quiet, with a garden/patio area at the rear that provides a welcome calm oasis away from the Amsterdam crowds. We found the staff to be exceptional, friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was great. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it's not a place that I would recommend to anyone who is elderly or disabled--stairways are narrow and steep and there are no elevators.

Good afternoon, thank you for sharing your experience with us. I am glad to read that overall you enjoyed your stay at Canal House! Canal House comprises three original 17th century merchant houses on the Keizersgracht and the steepy stairs are very common. One part of the hotel does not have an elevator but the majority of the rooms can be reached by the elevator which is located in the other part of the building. You may request one of those rooms when making your reservation with us. Kind regards, Lisa de Kloe

Great location to explore Amsterdam. The hotel is in the perfect location however needs a few little improvements, the garden area needs updating with the furniture and the air conditioning in the rooms wasn’t great. The breakfast is lovely and lots of choice.

This was our second stay at the Canal House in Amsterdam. The staff is very helpful and friendly, our room was quiet and peaceful. The Back garden was a sanctuary from the hustle of the city. Each day was came back to the hotel and relaxed in the garden for recharging. Looking forward to my next stay.

It bums me out to say this but you need to know the truth. This used to be one of my favorite boutiques in the world and I live out of a suitcase but trust me when I say - you can do better and I’ve had it next door. This is my 7th time at this hotel and unfortunately my last. I’ve stayed at the Pulitzer, Dylan and the Conservatorium - all better options and if you are considering one of them trust your gut. What you should know (1) they don’t allow you to regulate your own AC and everything is preset. Dutch homes are old - both heat and coldness are unevenly distributed thus wildly different climates depending on where your room is located. They won’t allow you to turn your air down as it’s locked. Their answer is to have a fan blow hot air around. (2) Our room smelt like a rat died in the walls because well - it definitely did. Their answer was to get a few plug in Glades after admiring it smelt terrible. Neat. (3) Their old school small approach to hospitality died with the wall rat. Have a request? It’s inconvenient and they seem annoyed. Need a universal charger? You are a dumb idiot to even ask. Have a question about where to eat? How to ship a package? Bringing a Uber order upstairs? Go fish. Simply put - their competitors are willing to provide better rooms, better service and the real hospitality this place used to epitomize. We stayed at the Pulitzer a few days before and they handled EVERY one of the above requests with ease or at least provided constructive feedback to help travelers. The good: They have a few incredible stars here. They take great pride in their breakfast and go the extra mile - one of the most thoughtful group of folks ever who really seem concerned about whether you had coffee or have eaten your breakfast. The morning manager who used to work at Aman in Indonesia? Should be running the place and is a special talent - maybe even future Mayor of Amsterdam. One of the nicest and authentic people I’ve ever come across. The Bottom Line: The intimate, quietly cool, bohemian Dutch spot that went out of their way to make you feel home? She’s gone. They took her for granted and management could care less about it.

Dear Mr Romano I’m of course sorry to read that you felt your stay lacked that extra wow factor you were anticipating. We work very hard to delight each and every guest who stays with us. We were under the assumption that it was made clear to you , that the service you expected we unfortunately could not provide at this time due to several internal and external reasons. Next time we will follow up to ensure our guest , like you, do understand this so apologies that we failed to have not made it more clear to you. The positive comment regarding breakfast and one of my team members I will certainly share with them. Kind regards, Lisa de Kloe

Wow - this is a beautiful boutique hotel. From the moment I was greeted at the door, to the tour of the property and friendliness of every single member of the team - this is what defines properties. Was in Room 5 - so a medium sized room and right on the canal - beautiful linens, very beautiful decor and good sized bathroom (with seperate bathtub). Breakfast room is stunning and the range of food very good quality. The garden is so tranquil and the small gym room (one person / room at a time) was perfect. The property is also on a really quiet part of the street so no noise at all. Simply could not fault this hotel - the team over delivered and I will definitely return.

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left everything was great. The staff are friendly and hospitable and are happy to help with anything, especially booking restaurants or excursions. We had a birthday celebration whilst we were there and they made a special effort to acknowledge it. The room was very clean as was the rest of the hotel. It has a courtyard garden which was lovely for evening drinks. All in all I would thoroughly recommend The Canal House.

We have just returned from a mini Break from Amsterdam and stayed at this beautiful Canal House . This is a real find and the staff were absolutely wonderful, nothing was too much trouble and we had a wonderful welcome with drinks and cold towels . Breakfast is included and the Breakfast Waiter was exceptional. He was friendly polite and again went out of his way to get anything we wanted. The reception staff too were just delightful again nothing was too much trouble. These staff are all lead by the amazing Manager Wilko he was truly a credit to the Canal House and in my years of travelling I haven't met anyone quite as professional as him. He even showed us to our room and took the time to explain about the key entry system the room and the hotel facilities. This hotel is really a little gem the rooms are exquisite all the little extras are there beautiful accessories in the bath room big fluffy towels beautiful bedding and lovely and spacious. Thank you so much Wilko your hotel is truly magical. Would come back in a heart beat . We fell in love with the Hotel and Amsterdam !!! Just to add the hotel is in a great location and everything we needed was in walking distance.
