Went for a two day business trip in mid November, easy access from the airport, just jump on any train going to the central station, cost between 3,5-5,5 Euros depending on class and if it is express, it's a 5 minute walk from the train station to the hotel. Fast and friendly service in the lobby. Huge hotel, big rooms... More

Just back from a brilliant 3 night mini-break to Amsterdam and for a sightseeing trip this hotel is perfectly located, directly opposite Centraal Station (easy to get train here from airport). Next to red light district and easy walking distance to the main attractions. Reception staff, conceirge were excellent, barman was amazing - we spent quite a few hours in... More

I have stayed at this hotel on average 4 times a year since 2004 and it always lived up to expectations. Levels of service match the mid to upper price range. The rooms are fine but some a starting to show their age a little - especially some of the en-suite bathrooms but overall a good experience and a great... More

We decided to splurge and booked this hotel for the final night of our honey moon aind were exepcting five star quality. This hotel should not be rated as a five stars. We stayed in a 4 star NH hotel in Amsterdam which was better than the "five" star NH Barbizon Palace. We've stayed in Best Western hotels that deserve... More

My husband and I regularly come to Amsterdam either for business or pleasure or both, and we usually stay at the barbizon but have stayed hilton, krasnapolsky etc...The barbizon has definintely improved. Better room service menu, better wifi and a few other details. And looking forward to the gym improvements finishing. Our only review comments are to recognise loyal customers... More

We spent four nights at this hotel. The location is perfect - get off the train from the airport and walk across the road (just don't get run over by a tram or a bike). We asked for an upper level floor as other reviews noted the first level was noisy (thanks for the tip) but the hotel was full... More

Ideally located for all transports. hotel rooms very comfortable. breakfast far too expensive but step outside and you have hundreds of breakfast bars to choose from which is also ideal for evening meals. Stay down the side streets and not the main road for less expensive and far nicer meals. First room we had been given you could not open... More

After reading other reviews about the Barbizon Palace, ousr tay turned out to be pretty much as expected. We found the staff were very friendly, efficient and professional. Our room was large, and comfortable. The lobby area was very attractive and the bar area was cosy yet contemporary. And, of course the location is fantastic, being close to the railway... More

good location nearby central station, rooms had tea and coffee maker, staff was friendly. Rooms were outdated and I didn't like those wall to wall carpets. Beds were comfortable and we got good sleep. We didn't have breakfast, it was too expensive.

I have to say, after reading the reviews, I was so afraid of what I was going to get when I got to the hotel (I got a fantastic deal through a "name your own price" site) but wow, wow, wow. Great service, friendly, good food (although I only had room service once). I was there 7 nights and slept... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
