We booked one of the 2 bedroom apartments here for a friend's birthday trip. It was a very reasonable price and because we wanted to stay in the centre of Amsterdam, we thought the price was great. It turns out that the location was even greater - 2 minutes away from Dam Square. We couldn't believe our luck. It's managed... More

We chose this place because we only had one night in Amsterdam and wanted to be very close to the city center. Within walking distance of the railway station and 100 meters from The Dam this place meet our requirements. To be honest we wouldn't want to stay more than one night. We had two rooms. One overlooked the street... More

We chose these apartments due to their central location and we weren't disappointed. Just off Dam Square, close to some lovely restaurants and within walking distance of Central Station. We had two, two bedroom apartments for 8 of us. The stairs up to the apartments are the usual steepness for Amsterdam. Once inside everything is there that you may need... More

These people know about hospitality. The rooms are nice, comfortable, clean but nothing flash. All the basics are there and you could not ask for more when you are looking for inexpensive city accommodation.

The street outside is thronged with people day and night with a thousand fast food outlets. Enter the hotel and climb the steep stairs to a generous room full of light from the big windows. The room was quiet and no smell of cooking. The cost at €140 a night (£120, US$180) is competitive for the area and the use... More

The location was the best thing about the hotel. Central to everything but couldn't hear any noise from the streets. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and even offered to carry our luggage up all the stairs. The room was very clean and couldn't fault it. Although my partner did have to duck to go to the toilet because... More

Location was great since it was right beside Dam Square with many shops in the area, and a bakery directly below the apartment so you wake up to the smell of pastries!! Free bike rental since the b&b is owned by a bike shop. Staff was super nice and friendly. The only downside (like most apartments in Amsterdam) are the... More

4 of us stayed here in July 2015 - we had a top floor apartment with 2 twin rooms, a shower room and a bathroom. The lounge/kitchen was open plan with all the amenities you need. A great place to stay being literally 100 yards from Dam Square, very helpful friendly staff. we paid £400 for 2 nights for the... More

Me and three friends stayed here while in Amsterdam for a busy 24 hours. Host was awesome and helpful, allowing us to check in straight away (a small miracle after 30+ hours in transit) and everything was perfect. Super close (walking distance) to loads of shops and attractions, the place was clean, comfy and easy to find. Highly recommend.

Holger is awesome! The location is great. The apartment was perfect. Lots of room, wifi, flat screen, and you can't beat the location. The best coffee shops all very close proximity. Good food in the area, and you can even grab a bike and go for a ride. Renees croissanterie is dangerously close!!!!

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
