This small-scale hotel offers elegant, practical accommodation right in the city center, near the lively shopping and entertainment areas. Have your breakfast in the cozy common room and use the free Wi-Fi to stay in touch with the home front. Weather permitting, you can sit out in the garden and sip a drink. Step outside the main entrance to catch a typical Amsterdam tram right in front of the hotel towards all the tourist attractions.

We chose this hotel because it had great reviews and a much lower price than most hotels in Amsterdam. Our expectations were met: the hotel is small but cozy and, as in most historic buildings in the city, there is no elevator and the stairs to the floors are quite narrow. Our room was small but had everything you need for a pleasant stay, good quality linen, cleaning service also. Comfortable beds and nice balcony overlooking a garden. A comfortable bathroom with amenities of all kinds. A chocolate on the pillow and an apple as a welcome. Breakfast is not served but on the ground floor you can prepare a (great) coffee and other hot drinks without having to pay anything. There are numerous bakeries and bars around the hotel where you can have breakfast. The area is just outside the center but well served by public transport. You can walk to Dam Square or the museum area in less than half an hour. In addition to all this, the courtesy and helpfulness of the reception staff who, with competence and patience, helped and advised us whenever we needed it. Super recommended!

This small hotel is well located because it is at the foot of the main tram lines providing access to the main hot spots of the city in less than 10 minutes. The rooms are clean and the one with a jacuzzi bath is very pleasant after a long day of walking. The staff takes great care and gives good advice for the tram, restaurants or parking your car... The only problem is the noise if you have a room that faces the street directly. Here, no broken fetars like in the hyper center but a lot of car and tram traffic. I would recommend this hotel but with a room love the little garden at the back.

The hotel was beautiful, in a perfect location for travelling to the centre of town. There is a lovely breakfast spot very close called “the breakfast club”. The hotel offers converter plugs for a deposit of £5 each. They also offered free hot drinks and a selection of cold drinks for cheap pricing, the staff were very accommodating and very informative. The balcony is a perfect spot to smoke and people watch. The only problem was the bathroom as the bath was quite complicated and we were unable to figure out how to change the temperature/work the jets in the bath so I would recommend asking the staff about that before you go into your room.

Don't let the two stars fool you, the rooms and facilities are 4-star quality and the service is 5-stars! I booked a room with a balcony and spa bath, and I couldn't be happier! It has a gorgeous couch, medium sized refrigerator, Samsung television, Rembrandt art hanging above the bed, fruit and chocolate on the pillows, plenty of toiletries and even tooth brushes, and two water bottles. Even fresh flowers welcome you. This is one of the biggest rooms I've had in a hotel in Amsterdam. You can tell that the owner and employees are very passionate, friendly, and helpful people. The staff is amazing. Tram stop in front of the hotel as well as a grocery store and pharmacy across the street. The rules on the websites are pre-covid, you are allowed to have food (even order it: they give you a list of local restaurants for pick up or delivery) and you can smoke on the balcony (there's an ashtray). My trick is using a spare facemask and tying the strings around the door lever so I can pull the balcony door closed during my smoking sessions to prevent any smoke smells from entering the room. Please ignore the bad reviews and give one of their luxury rooms a try! Anyone that knows this city, knows that steep stairs and traffic noises outside are normal. The windows are double glassed and otherwise you'll find earplugs in your room if you need it. I will definitely be visiting here more often!

We had a very good experience at the Alp Hotel. The location is great and we can walk from the hotel to almost all attractions of the city. We especially appreciated the warm and amazing welcome from Tahir at the front desk. He provided to us all information needed about the hotel but also a lot of great tips and recommendations about things to do, restaurants…etc.

The hotel is in a lovely location, not right in the middle but not too far out. Rooms are lovely & clean, spacious too(which in Amsterdam is quite rare!) We had a street view room with balcony which was lovely to sit on and watch the world go buy. Modern bathroom with jacuzzi bath & rainfall shower. My reason for 4 stars is when we checked in we were told our payment that booking.com had taken was going to be cancelled by the hotel and refunded (when your bank wants to release the money!) but he then wanted to charge us again once at the hotel to avoid paying the fees that booking.com would take! The guy done it the original way and then charged us city tax extra but upon inspection turns out we had in fact already paid that with booking.com! Make sure you check what you’ve paid for and have it all in front of you ready for check in! The man on the desk said that it’s all normal and everywhere does it but I have never had that happen to me before!

The staff was very helpful, providing recommendations of places to visit, shop, and eat. The front desk always helped us with any questions we had and even provided recommendations for next destination in Belgium. The room was clean and ft 3 people. We would stay here again!

Stayed here for 4 nights after it was recommended by a friend. It's in a fantastic spot, tram stop right outside the door. We booked a triple room with a garden balcony with a view of the garden. It was lovely to be able to sit and relax each evening after the hassle and bustle of sightseeing all day. It's Amsterdam so be prepared for very steep steps and pretty small rooms, but that's the city overall unless you stay in a new building. Our room had everything you need, plus the selection of shower gel etc in the bathroom was brilliant. I have to mention the staff, they're brilliant. One man in particular, didn't get his name, but he checked us in, gave loads of helpful tips about the area, tram times etc, and went that extra mile when we needed to stay an extra night due to a cancelled flight.

I went to Amsterdam for two days, I had the horrible luck to rent in this hotel, with my two brothers we rented the room with balcony because of covid we wanted to be outside, we were having some beers with medium music when the guy from the reception came inside the room without knocking he in a super bad way (he didnt know so much english) sayed to us to shut the music down, which we did, then I went to sleep and my two brothers continued being outside without music just chatting, this was a saturday at 1 am, then the guy came inside the room without knocking and I woke up with him next to me, I said to him what was his problem and he started shouting, I was asleep with a strange guy next to me, next day I reported this and they say to us they wanted to kick us out of the hotel, when I mentioned what the other receptionist made, the guy started shouting to me saying he was going to kick us out, they say to us that if we payed 100 euros more as a "fee" we could stay if not we should look for another hotel at 9 p.m with the carefew at 10 p.m, finally another guy came in and say we could stay. Either way it was one of the worst experience if not the worst I have ever had with a hotel. As a woman, I felt terrified when a stranger was next to me when i was sleeping in the middle of the night.

Response from Savas Alp, Eigenaar at Alp Hotel Amsterdam
Responded Apr 15, 2021
Dear Miss, Thank you very much for your review of your recent stay at our hotel. Your feedback is extremely valuable to us, as we strive to improve with each and every stay. I greatly appreciate your comments about your experience in our hotel . It is a pleasure to inform you that I have investigated your case and spoke with the clerk on duty from that night. As you mentioned in your review that you were informed by our clerk to shut the music down. After listening to his side of the story I found out that he was receiving a lot noise complaint from the neighbours and our other staying guests repeatedly. Even though he had warned you two times already. I do apologize that the clerk should have not entered but we have strict policy when entering room. Knocking three times and waiting one minute before entering. Our guests and neighbour were still complaining about the noise at 4 am in the morning. Sorry but to avoid any other situations my colleague had no choice but to enter. As far for the other things that you mentioned it’s not clear to me so please reach out to me by contacting the hotels number. I hope that I can convince you to change your mind about another visit to our property. If you would be willing to give us a chance to turn your experience around. It would be such a pleasure to personally welcome you back to our hotel! With much appreciation, | General Manager

Our stay at The Alp started in a bad way because even before we'd left our home country, we were asked to pay in cash because of a fawlty card machine. And the same question popped up several times on our first day. A fawlty card machine is NOT the guest's problem, this is something the hotel must find a solution to and certainly not by asking the guest to pay in cash. That problem solved (machine eventually started to work), our stay was OK. The price is good, and so is the location. There is no breakfast, but guests have access to a coffee/tea machine in the reception and the room is supplied with water bottles, an apple and chocolate to each every day. Small pleasures ... Our room was a bit old-fashioned and colourless, but otherwise fine. Of course, photos always look better! Staff is definitely helpful. They give you a list of nearby restaurants, and even though I rarely pay attention to such lists I'd never have found the Pazzi Pizzeria myself. That was a great place and very close. We had breakfast at The Coffee Roastery five minutes away, another great place. Unfortunately, our stay ended as bad as it started. We wanted to use the airport shuttle, but that we had to pay in cash. That doesn't seem right to me, and we never got the receipt we asked for. If it hadn't been for these "money matters", I'd would recommend this hotel highly.

Hi there,
As a mom with older kids (I remember those days with the little ones!) I think I would have been very intimidated by the stairs, especially if you have a lot of stuff to carry up. That being said, the rooms are a decent size compared to other Amsterdam hotels in that price range and the city tram has a stop right in front of the hotel, so it makes it pretty easy to get around the city. The people who run the place are so nice and as a parent, you will have a hassle free and really good breakfast and coffee every morning right there in the hotel, so for me, that is always a bonus!

Hi Michelle, there was a hair dryer in the bathroom but I did not use it, I used the shower cap so did not try out the hair dryer - sorry - there was one there but if it was any good I don't know.
There are more places to choose from in the Amsterdam area.
