Very clean and tidy. A continuous supply of tea/coffee. We were able to book a room on the first floor, the stairs being very steep and no lift in the building. Service was impeccable from all the staff. Very accessible to the main attractions in Amsterdam. The hotel is also on a main tram route and handy to the canals.

Upon arrival we asked to view the room and was assured that our room was the best room in the Hotel, all I can say is that if the "Christopher Columbus" room on the 4th Floor is the best room, I would not like to view the worst room. Having first negotiated the North Face of the Eiger, we finally arrived on the 4th Floor and to say the least, the room was mediocre and the beds only measured 750mm as opposed to a guaranteed minimum 900mm, there was no space between the beds and the room was eaved. Rather strange that this particular room cannot be viewed in either the Hotel Website, Booking.com nor Tripadvisor. The Hotel's Website states that "A Buffet Breakfast is served in the Morning", whilst clearly it is not as the Hotel has no restaurant facilities!. We also regard this Hotel as a health hazard as the stairway is dangerous

There are so many positives to this hotel with a few 'buts' thrown in. First the positives. The hotel is amazingly clean and the staff friendly. The room had a jacuzzi bath which was amazing to soothe aching feet after sightseeing. There was a fridge and sink in the main body of the room, excellent for coffee making. Chocolates aplenty every day. The downsides were that it was a bit further away from the main sites than we anticipated. There is a busy tram and road junction right outside the hotel and the trams were unbelievably noisy until they stopped running at night. The walls are also super thin and there is only a small corridor area on each floor. When people come in late at night, even just low level talking echoes around the corridor to wake you up. The hotel supplies earplugs and now I know why. The hotelier explained that people come back to the hotel on drugs and drunk - again, not sure I wanted to know this! We had wondered if some signs reminding people to be quiet at night might help but if people are truly on drugs, nothing would work. It is not clear from some booking sites whether breakfast is an option. It is not an option. They have an arrangement with a neighbouring cafe to have food delivered of needed but this is a bagel shop, not to everyone's tastes first thing in a morning. There is a brilliant place called the Breakfast Club about 5 mins walk away though. There were so many plus points about this hotel, but it doesn't quite meet the mark due to the noise I'm afraid.

The good stuff first. The staff was more than lovely and very helpful. When I arrived at the hotel I was told that credit cards were not accepted. No where in making my reservation did it state "cash only". I am 74 years old, the stairs were very narrow and steep, they did carry my bag. The room was so small I could not move around the bed. I had to craw into bed from the foot of the bed. Lastly the price was not much of a savings.

The hotel is in a lovely location, not right in the middle but not too far out. Rooms are lovely & clean, spacious too(which in Amsterdam is quite rare!) We had a street view room with balcony which was lovely to sit on and watch the world go buy. Modern bathroom with jacuzzi bath & rainfall shower. My reason for 4 stars is when we checked in we were told our payment that booking.com had taken was going to be cancelled by the hotel and refunded (when your bank wants to release the money!) but he then wanted to charge us again once at the hotel to avoid paying the fees that booking.com would take! The guy done it the original way and then charged us city tax extra but upon inspection turns out we had in fact already paid that with booking.com! Make sure you check what you’ve paid for and have it all in front of you ready for check in! The man on the desk said that it’s all normal and everywhere does it but I have never had that happen to me before!

Superb service of the staff. Excellent hygiene is everywhere noticeable in the hotel. Covid rules are highly respected. Pleasant lobby with free refreshments for 24/7 usage including good working internet. All amenities are present and if not the staff will make it present. I particularly enjoyed the decor, the balance was nicely used between lodging in an almost antique building and enjoying the classy modern furniture and styling eye for detail. Definitely recommend staying at this wonderful small-size Hilton with the same red carpet for the guest.

We stayed at the Alp Hotel for nine nights. We had a triple room which overlooked the courtyard. This made the room quiet and very pleasant. There are three chairs and a small table on a balcony adjoining the room where we had our breakfast every morning. The hotel is very clean and well-maintained. The front desk is exceptionally efficient and helpful. I would definitely stay here again. Location was superb. With trams across the street headed into town and Central Station many many restaurants and cafes next-door and down the streets. We made full use of excellent supermarket across the street we were able to purchase our breakfast and sometimes even dinner. There is a large patio on the ground floor where you can also have your meals if you choose in addition to dining tables and chairs in the entrance of the hotel.

Our stay at The Alp started in a bad way because even before we'd left our home country, we were asked to pay in cash because of a fawlty card machine. And the same question popped up several times on our first day. A fawlty card machine is NOT the guest's problem, this is something the hotel must find a solution to and certainly not by asking the guest to pay in cash. That problem solved (machine eventually started to work), our stay was OK. The price is good, and so is the location. There is no breakfast, but guests have access to a coffee/tea machine in the reception and the room is supplied with water bottles, an apple and chocolate to each every day. Small pleasures ... Our room was a bit old-fashioned and colourless, but otherwise fine. Of course, photos always look better! Staff is definitely helpful. They give you a list of nearby restaurants, and even though I rarely pay attention to such lists I'd never have found the Pazzi Pizzeria myself. That was a great place and very close. We had breakfast at The Coffee Roastery five minutes away, another great place. Unfortunately, our stay ended as bad as it started. We wanted to use the airport shuttle, but that we had to pay in cash. That doesn't seem right to me, and we never got the receipt we asked for. If it hadn't been for these "money matters", I'd would recommend this hotel highly.
