#37 of 410 Specialty lodging in Amsterdam
Ride your bicycle along café-lined waterways, visit the most creative shops around De PijP or just kick back by the canal and try a few cold Dutch beers. It's pretty hard to get stressed in Amsterdam, but having a good time is easy. Generator Amsterdam is located in the up-and-coming eastern side of the city overlooking Oosterpark. This former zoological university building can accommodate 564 guests in 168 twin and quadruple rooms with incredible views on the surrounding and en-suite bathrooms. There is also one luxury apartment for six people with views of the park and a self-catered kitchen. It has flexible and spacious social areas, filled with creative design touches like glass-fronted elevators, a raised café and an outdoor terrace. We've turned the former lecture hall into an impressive chill-out lounge and bar, while the old library is now a relaxation and private events room. The basement and café are now dining destinations and the original boiler room has become a secret late night bar.

I guess that Generator's location helped us discover the city more comfortably, because we didn't worry about how to get there late, you can always go on foot. The design was very impressive and modern, and the rooms had all what you need.

I booked a room for me and four friends my 19th birthday. I booked this in confidence and paid in full in good faith before the quarantine measures. The sudden changes to the quarantine rules meant that my party was no longer able to travel. The hostel would not give a refund, and even though we understood this, we asked for credit or a voucher so that our booking could be transferred to another time. They would not even do this! I managed to get a flight voucher for our EasyJet flight which is better than this situation. As I am a student, this has cost me dearly and they are profiteering out of an unforeseeable and unprecedented situation. I am extremely disappointed with the way they have handled this situation and I would not recommend them to anyone. They have ruined my birthday celebrations and the money that i have lost is going to effect me crucially.

The prices for room and food were very fair. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. Great location, just a bit far from the city centre either a bike or a ticket for public transport is necessary. We loved the atmosphere and the design.

A great place to relax and to use as a home base for exploring Amsterdam. Clean, comfortable and even hand soap is provided. The beds in the female dorm are a bit short, they were just perfect for me (1.72 m). The old building and how they adapted the interior design is wonderful, this hostel actually has character. Also staff, especially Arusha and Clara, were very kind and seem genuinely nice people. Would recommend this place.

Loved the place. The ambience, the people, the service was fantastic. We travelled for educational purposes and has our lectures at the University of Amsterdam. The place is centrally located with the Uni extremely close by. The park behind the Hotel is the best stress buster one could ask for. People were very polite and took good care of us. A special shout out to my friend "Joannah" (hope I spelt it correctly) who was tending tables as well as looking after almost all the things in the Hotel. She is a very kind and hardworking lady. I would definitely recommend everyone who is visiting this place to just meet this lady once as she brings about a very positive vibe around the place. All in all, a wonderful trip and a highly recommended stay!
