We have a okay stay in the hotel, the concept and the building is very cool. Services: - We arrived around 11:00am, room is not ready, but front desk helped us checkin and told us the room will be ready by 3pm, we back to the hotel around 3:30pm, got the key, but walked in a room that is still in cleaning process. Housekeeping was confused, but we are glad that there is another staff member on the floor helped us and informed the front desk. We have to back to lobby and wait another 20 mins, it would be nice if they can offer a drink. - When we walked in the room, unfortunately, the bed linens was very poorly done. - We had a dinner package. The front desk staff asked if we have any dietary restrictions at checkin, we informed we have one vegetarian. But during the dinner, we noticed that restaurant staff didn't get this information, we have to tell them again, same for breakfast next day. The whole dinner process is a bit confused. You will pick up your first course, bring back to the room. Once you finished it, call front desk and they will prepare main course, and they will call once it ready. So there is a lot of communication to get this dinner done. Also later on we heard from other guests that we can order any main entrees on the menu, but no one told us before. We thought they just have a set of menu. Really wish the hotel could do a better job in communication. Facilities: - Inside is very nice, interesting story behind, newly renovated. Modern style. - Parking is easy, there is city parking lot next to the hotel parking lot. The city parking is free during weekend, or you need to pay during Monday -Friday daytime. - Shower does not keep a consistent temperature, and water kept going from warm to super hot then to super cold then to warm again. Apparently this is an ongoing issue. Wish they could fix this soon. - We could heard people in the room next to us. Whoops :( I would not again at this hotel again and for me this is a one-time experience. I still recommend to try it, the hotel connect is very unique.

We had a great time; the hotel looks good and is located quite nicely (walks/bike rides). We booked prior to lockdown and were allowed to rebook only until end of March (still lockdown), not twice. With or without lockdown, I’d say E100 per night is slightly expensive for the level of service/quality of the rooms.

Unique hotel, friendly staff that’s willing to do the extra mile. We find this hotel is a true gem in Alkmaar. The rules and regulations because of Covid-19 didn’t affect our trip to this hotel, nor did it change the experience of stsying in a former prison. The city of Alkmaar is fun to hang out as well.

The hotel is very well renovated, rooms are nice. We didn't order food. Improvements: 1. glass bathroom door doesn't alive well and has no bottom rail so it bangs against the wall, could be better glided.2. Main door has no draft of noise stoppers so you can hear everything outside the room and I could hear inside. But no room to room sounds. Add something to fill the gap under the door. But we will definitely stay again if I'm the area
