Let's talk about my experience with the Mabi hotel. I travelled to present at a conference last week in Maastricht. Beautiful city and some great spots for food but avoid this hotel. I arrived early and checked in, but was told I wasn't allowed to my room until 3 pm but I could leave my luggage which was totally reasonable, but then things began to go wrong. I went off for the afternoon and arrived back that evening to get my room key, after waiting 5-10 minutes while the receptionist dealt with some sort of booking issue on the phone, he told me my room was not in the hotel. It was around the corner in an "upgraded" studio, down a side alley of where the hotel was located, it was late in the evening, and I had booked a standard room so I couldn't understand why I couldn't remain in the main hotel, he explained to me that the conference agent had booked me in so that was what I was getting. I then went and produced an email from the conference agent that said "standard room" and the excuse changed to "I was one of the last to book". I realised the following day that my colleague who booked the week after me managed to stay in the main hotel (same check in and check out times), so this turned out to be another lie, but hey, an "upgraded" room I might as well see what it's like, how bad can it be? So I left the hotel, and was told I needed to go on my own because it was late and there wasn't a second receptionist so he couldn't walk me as they normally do. As a positive side note, I can confirm after 4 nights there, that Maastricht appears very safe and I had no trouble on my own down that side alley. However back to the story, I walked in to my room, and it was big studio kitchen area in the front, but when I walked straight into my bedroom I realised that the bed was a mess, towels on the floor as if the room was still in full use, I then went back to the kitchen and realised the sink was piled with used pasta dishes. So I returned back to the reception, and I told him that's not okay the rooms used, and he began to say, that's all we have, and I then clarified, "the studio is fine, but there's either someone still staying there or else the room hasn't been cleaned", and then I got a proper response, of "oh! I don't know how that happened" and was given another studio room further down, this was clean and fine, and I spent the first two nights there happy out but on the third night however my work colleague asked had I got a free bottle of water from the large fridge on the first floor of the main hotel, and I explained I had never been told of this, so went in and got a bottle of water, and returned to my studio. I then thought to myself, maybe they supplied the studios with a bottle or two of water as they're not in the main hotel, and so I opened the fridge in the studio for the first time, big mistake! A bowl of creamy bacon pasta sitting in the fridge (photo attached), to which I realised, must have sat there for the last 2 nights at least. I went to bed and woke up the next morning and went back to main hotel reception and showed the same receptionist I had originally dealt with, the photo of the fridge, and he told me he'd take care of it. However, I returned to my room early that day and bumped into the cleaner as she was leaving after cleaning my room, and I asked had she been told about the fridge and she said no but took the bowl away, she seemed nice. I went to bed that night, the last night, and woke up the next morning and walked back to the main hotel (the side alley get's a little bit dirty after a Friday night, see photo attached). I handed that same receptionist, I had dealt with since the first night, the key, he told me the bill was settled, so I left, and I plan on returning to Maastricht but will never stay there. Overall, I was disappointed, at what was supposed to be a great boutique hotel for 4 nights, and turned out to be an expensive glorified hostel with poor service. PLEASE AVOID! I think I can recommend the Design hotel, Bastion, Fitzroy hotel, and NH hotel all my colleagues stayed across these hotels and they seemed better than this one. Bistro Croquant also great for food.

The hotel is very centrally situated in the heart of the old town but close to all public transport. It is quirky with a Cinema them! It is very clean and very nice helpful staff. Facilities are good and a beautiful breakfast awaits. There are restaurants within minutes all around. We booked the basic rooms which we found a bit small and not really much wardrobe space so next time we shall book a larger room. The bed provided a comfortable sleep and we found the room to be exceptionally quiet for a town hotel. Complimentary cold water very welcomed!

What a gem of a hotel. Right off the market square. 10 minute walk to the Vitrof. Some lovely touches. Free wine between 5-6 which was very nice. Chocolate and breads to sample when displayed at no extra charge. Brollys were a godsend as we arrived in a downpour. Free water in large fridges on each floor and free tea and coffee all day and night. We had a deluxe double. Plenty of space but would ask for 1 drawer if possible as had to live out of case for non hanging items. Air con was much appreciated as the sun shone on day 2. The only negative was that we arrived at 3pm soaked to the skin to be told our room was not ready for another 45 minutes. Check in was 3pm so our room should have been ready really.

A great little hotel. Location was excellent as it was really close to the bridge to the Wyck side/train station side but very near (100m) to Market square and the main alleys and attravyions of the town. Basically everything is very walkable and within a km or less. Staff were very nice and there were many little perks and extras such as free tea and coffee 24/7, free popcorn, chocolate covered peanuts, crossaints and fruit at all times. We were happy with the room features and cleanliness also. I would definitely stay here again.

A truly lovely small hotel. We stayed for two nights in July. Wonderful friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble. Quirky interior design with contemporary clean rooms. An inviting bar with free wine and nibbles at 5 pm. A welcome cocktail on arrival. Free copious amounts of bottled water. Short walk to the wonderful Andre Rieu concert. A fabulous weekend.!!! Would definitely stay there again and recommend this small hotel to friends and family.
