Staying at City Hotel Groningen will, without a doubt, bring a smile on your face as never before. What's not to appreciate about a modern, slightly arty décor, plenty of space, and a convenient location in the city center? Take a tour through the city, on a bike which we will arrange for you, or go a shopping spree. Cycle through the center with its historic warehouses, courtyards and buildings, past the Martini Tower towards the Grote Markt and see Groningen at its best. Afterwards, you can fully recharge in the comfortable hotel bar or on the terrace in front of the hotel.

Detailed Reviews
We regularly stay in Groningen. Usually we stay in an apartment, however this time it was just a short stop-over on our way to Schiermonnikoog and this was a cheaper option.
The hotel is located in a very convenient location in the city center of Groningen, There are many restaurants in the neigbourhood.
Check in went smooth even though during Corona times it is a bit different. During our entire stay, we enjoyed the friendliness of the staff members.
Our room was clean and nicely decorated in a modern fashion. Size was ok but it is definitely not a large room.
We liked the hotel and think it is a good choice for a short visit of Groningen.

I was really surprised by this hotel. This was my first time in Groningen and I would not have wanted to stay anywhere different. The location is excellent, it's close to anything and everything in the centrum. Second, the housekeeping staff of this hotel is quite probably the very best I have EVER seen anywhere. The housekeeping staff, of which I saw 4-5 different housekeeping staff in the week that I stayed there. They were all friendly and did above and beyond what I even expected. I could go into details, but it would make this too long...just trust me, they were the best. I like to have things clean, and they did a better job than even I would do (which is a big statement). So, a HUGE "well done" to the housekeeping staff. Truly remarkable and impressive! Good staff makes a massive difference. Third, I came in contact with 2-3 of the hotel managers, or at least I think they were managers...each one was very friendly, very nice, very competent, and very professional. You couldn't ask for better. Good management makes a massive difference. Fourth, I had the mid-range room (I think they call it a City Room), and I was really impressed with how it was designed and how the furniture was laid out (particularly the wardrobe and the desk/office space). This was very unique and a very welcome change. It was very practical, so I loved it. It is well designed. I never had the breakfast, so I cannot comment on that, but many people were eating breakfast every morning I left the hotel, so it seems the breakfast is popular, but never having had it, I cannot comment. Overall, I really liked this hotel very much. I was surprised by the things you read above, in a very good way. The next time I am in Groningen, this is definitely where I will stay.

As the name of the hotel indicates, this hotel is centrally located in the city of Groningen. The parking garage is a 5 mins walk from the hotel though. The address of the garage was not (clearly) mentioned on the website so we had to call the hotel to find out its location. There is an intercom at the garage with connection to the hotel to open the gate. The parking spots are quite tight.
The personnel at the reception was friendly and efficient so I was quickly in my room. The room was big enough with good beds and a nice and spacey bathroom. For breakfast, every individual got a personnel breakfast tower consisting of bread, croissant, cheese, ham, etc. which you could complete with other stuff from the nice breakfast buffet (egg, yoghurt, etc.). Coffee was good, orange juice tasteful.

We chose this hotel for the private parking as our car was full but we were very pleasantly surprised by our stay. The rooms were although a bit dark (due to the shape of the windows) excellent and the beds extremely comfortable. Both bathrooms as we had 2 rooms were clean and had good strong showers. The breakfast served during these covid times was well organised and delicious. The staff were extremely helpful and I was able to rent one of the hotel bikes without booking beforehand. The staff were able to recommend some restaurants and give some other useful information. This hotel was perfect for us and when the weather was awful you could sit in the lounge and serve yourself some coffee. Definitely my best hotel experience in Groningen so far.

We booked this hotel for a family outing in early August and overall I wouldn't rate this hotel with 4 stars but rather 3. It's an ok hotel. Our issue largely stemmed from the checkin process, both online and when we arrived at the hotel.
When booking the hotel rooms nowhere was there any mention that one cannot reach the hotel by car because downtown Groningen is essentially a pedestrian-only area. It'd been nice if that would have been made clear. It took us at least 20 minutes of trying various different access roads to conclude that there simply was no way to get to the hotel front door by car. Fancy that! The hotel website does mention parking and states it's in close proximity, which probably works fine for the general public, but we had one family member who can't walk well and we simply wished to drop him off at the hotel entrance and then park the car. it'd been nice for the hotel site to point this out, so we didn't waste a good chunk of time and stress to find out you can't get to the hotel by car. For the foreigners amongst us: please note that most GPS apps fail to indicate that the city centre cannot be accessed by car by the general public.
When I asked the desk agent about the parking debacle, he was very condescending and laughed it off with a jack ass comment of "Yes, one cannot enter the city by car." I've traveled all over the world and been to many hotels, but I found his attitude unprofessional, insulting, and, as I said previously, condescending. I'm not paying good money to be belittled when checking in.

The hotel is very well located and has a good breakfast with fruit, hot items, cereals, bread and coffee.
The room where we stayed is not very big but it has a bathroom in the room and offers coffee and tea.
Another advantage is the existence of a private car park

We came to know first time that even it was a 2 nights booking I had to pay separate amount per night for the same room with one check-in. This is an experience of my lifetime travel experience in several(I should say uncountable) overseas travel experience which include Europe, Asia, Arabian countries and African countries in last 32 years. They charged first day at €94 euro and 2nd day at €114 which was not disclosed during the booking time. This is a way of cheating by the name of policy. I never heard and never faced that I booked a hotel room 1 month before for 2 nights and being charged different for 2 days for the same room. And last but not the least they didn't bother to provide water bottle and other things on the 2nd day.

While staying overnight with a baby, this hotel were very accommodating.
The rooms are not spacious, but perfectly functional, and also the decor is quite new with a nicely finished bathroom.
The location is perfect for exploring the city. Also adjacent to a number of nice restaurants which were lively in the evening.
Breakfast is served in a bag due to COVID, so it has the basics but nothing too spectacular.
Overall this hotel is good value for money and the staff were super friendly.

Very nice and organized Hotel.
Check-inn was quick, rooms are nice clean, even the hairdryer is normal not us ussual in hotels that barely blows air. Included breakfast is godd where you have big enough choice. Check out was very fast and you can do it when ever it is needed (until 12:00) even early in the morning because the reception is 24/7.

Family trip visiting ny son who is studying in groningen. Hotel is superbly located to the centre while also being only a 10min walk from the train station. Bike hire is great value and makes getting around the city so easy. Hotel is beside the canals also which iz a bonus. Staff are really nice and helpful

If I recall they do have a laundry service. I did not use it but recal the container that was in the closet.
Good morning
There is a direct train from Schiphol to Groningen every hour.
Taxi service will take you to the City Hotel.
Yes, it did and it was a good buffet!
We indeed have our own parking garage at 250m distance from the hotel. The costs are € 17,50 per night. As 'tvrpieman' mentioned, you need a keycard to enter the garage. This also makes you able to drive in- and out multiple times per day during your stay. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions.
Best regards,
Sjoukje Witkop (Hotel Manager)
Voor zover ik het weet zijn huisdieren niet welkom.
Misschien dat er nog info op de site is vermeld.
