Great location, few minutes walk to De grote markt, with shops restaurants clubs and splendid coffee places on short walking distance. The bed was great, room spacious. Service for breakfast and coffee in the evening in the lobby/ restaurant was perfect. The free late checkout on Sunday at 15:00 is amazing!
3 points of improvement
1. tell your guests who planned to have breakfast on Sunday morning, that the busiest moments are between 9:30 and 10:30 and that it’s possible that they have to wait for a table during the busy time or work with time slot booking.
2. Give the cleaning lady information on Sunday about rooms where the guests already checked out and especially about the once who are checking out late. This way she does not have to knock on all doors and your guests enjoy the peacefulness of the late checkout and don’t get disturbed by housekeeping knocking on the doors of all the rooms
3. Supervision for cleaning should be better: watercooker contained old water and desperately in need of antical. Stayover rooms should be cleaned and towels changed when “don’t disturbed sign” is removed or guest informs reception about their departure in the evening. Shower gel and shampoo were not refilled, had to ask for both.
And the plusses:
The hotel scores very high when it comes to comfort and location and the breakfast is very good. And for smokers the small balcony with an ashtray, hidden from wind and cold,on every floor is definitely a plus.

I'll be honest by saying that I didn't have high expectations beforehand given the fact that the room, including breakfast, was not very expensive. But I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived. The hotel is located diagonally opposite the UMCG (The University Medical Center Groningen) and within walking distance of De Martinitoren and the Grote Markt. The hotel has some parking spaces, and if these are full, I can recommend the Damsterdiep parking garage at a 5-minute walk. This parking garage also has several charging points. Check-in was fast and smooth. I had a standard room on the 8th floor. The room was spacious and spotless. Two large windows that could also be opened so you can sleep in the fresh air. Good size bathroom with excellent rain shower. The bed had a good mattress, a good pillow, so in short, a great place to sleep. In the morning, a very extensive breakfast buffet. Lots of fresh fruit, bread and croissants, and good coffee. This, together with the attentive and very friendly team, makes this a 5-star review.

Excellent location close to the city centre. Friendly reception, shiny free apples next to the lifts, water and sweets to welcome guests, free coffee and tea for hotel guests (although the times for this were not clear and some nickle-and-diming took place). Good beds, tv placed comfortably, small fridge is a plus. Being close to the hospital, there was a bus stop nearby and buses reliable.
Negatives? Indifferent housekeeping- upon our arrival at about 17:00 all dirty glassware and bottles were outside room doors and we found broken glasses next to ours. This practice continued.

The only thing good is the location.
Service really terrible.
Booked a 3course dinner, front desk suggested that we could also order dinner from outside despite that we already paid for the dinner in the hotel. Well thanks, but no. The food at dinner wasn't special, not even good actually. At dinner we could pay again for the whole meal. Didn't do this ofcourse.
Their way of cleaning the room is putting a lamp over all the mess they made on the table.
After giving feedback there wasn't anything they could do for us. Not even apolygise.

Due to Corona Pandemic, not every EU Countries shut down their borders, but if you come back from certain Countries you have to Quarantine yourself for 14 days, and it can be a decission of the Healthministerium in less than 24 hours. This Hotel doesnt tolerate any reason from this Situation. For someone who is unable to quarantine, we had to cancel our trip once the decision was made that we would need to quarantine returning from this country. This hotel was not accommodating in these uncertain times and will charge you 90% from your full price.

Responded Oct 7, 2020
Dear Sir/Madam, Thank you for sharing your comments via Tripadvisor. Hopefully I understand your comments well and otherwise please contact me. You tried to cancel your reservations with us, due to the Quarantine rules of your country after returning from us. Our reservation policy for normal reservations does make this possible until 16 hours on the day of arrival free of charge. There are some restrictions, for example the prepaid and promo rates, which gives you discounts, but less flexibility. This is agreed by you when making the reservation. The risk for cancelling these types of bookings is with the booker. If you do not want to take the risk, than it makes sense to choose the regular and flexible rate. But if you take the risk, you should also accept the consequences. That is what we agreed when making the booking, we can not change the rules afterwards. For bookings made via a third party, the third party decides what policy they follow. In that case you should contact them.

It was our 3rd time in NH Groningen and that time was with our family.
We have sent several emails a couple of weeks before our trip to request a family room or a Triple with an extra bed.
We also wanted to know if we will have one of our regular rooms that we had the previous times, as we wanted a wooden tiled floor and not a carpet (that we finally had)
No response at all

At last, we booked through the website, requesting an extra bed on the reservation but it was not in our room on our arrival.
We slept the first night all 4 of us in 3 single beds.
When we mentioned the incident to another receptionist on our last evening, they arranged to put one in the room when we were out. Of course we didn’t use it at all

On our check out, the front office manager tried to charge us 80€ more for the extra bed, pretending that he was not informed. After we have asked for a cost breakdown, we found out the additional charges and he apologized

I was traveling with crutches as I was recovering from a broken leg and reached the reception desk at 23:00 to ask for an extra card, the receptionist was checking in some guests and I was waiting for about 15 minutes standing on my crutches. When I asked for priority, his response was: “there is no priority, first come first served”

We strongly believe that the male staff looks tired and dissatisfied from their job

But we will book again next year, just to find out if there will be any improvement

Response from NH Groningen, General Manager at NH Groningen

Dear mr. Moschidis, I am sorry to see that your stay with us was not as you may expect from us. My answer on your review took a bit longer due to the fact that I had to do some research to find out what happened. It is good to see that you liked our location and cleanliness. Regarding the mail you sent to us, I was wondering to which mailadres these where sent, while we only received the request to store the electric wheelchair on a safe place. I think there was some miscommunication, at least that is what I think. In our hotel it is not possible to have 4 beds in 1 room. We do have triple rooms as you have seen, but in this room there is no space for an 4th bed. In the superior rooms we can not place an extra bed, and these rooms are the only rooms currently with a wooden floor. A triple room with a wooden floor is not possible in NH Groningen. On the second evening (Sunday) you asked for an extra bed in your 2nd room. This was done this same evening. For this extra bed from Sunday until Tuesday morning (2 nights) we charged an supplement. At checkout you told us that this bed was not used, so we deducted this supplement from your invoice, without any discussions from our side. The person who did you checkout was the same person who worked on the Sunday evening, who received your request for an extra bed. If we make an extra keycard for the room, we need to ask some questions for security reasons. So this not a small task which you can do in the same time as you help some other guests. Sorry that you had to wait, but it is also not nice for the other guests who came in earlier to let them wait. Fortunately there are possibilities to sit while you wait. My apologies for the fact that you did not receive replies on your mails, although we did not receive them. To prevent miscommunication I kindly ask you to contact us direct for your next stay and we will try to for fill your requests as good as possible. Next year we will have more rooms with wooden floors, than we currently have. I am afraid that 4 persons on 1 room is still not possible, but 3 per room is. Thank you for this review and I hope my answer helped to clear some issues you mentioned. Kind regards, Egbert Brinks General Manager nhgroningen@nh-hotels.com

Stayed in the hotel a few times now. I keep returning as the breakfasts are amazing with plenty of choice for all dietary requirements and plenty of healthy options. The beds are comfy, everything is clean and the location is great. The dinner menu is a bit limited but the hotel is a short walk into the city centre where there are lots of good places to eat. It's about a 20 minute walk from the station and there's a bus stop right opposite where you can get any bus to the station if your bags are heavy. It's a university city with a party vibe so you can hear a little bit of noise from outside of a night but it's never loud enough to bother me.

Really friendly and helpful staff, great location, 5 minutes walk to the centre. Clean and comfortable. The breakfast is expensive if you have a small appetite but it's tasty. The loan of the bike was really great! Will definitely stay here again

As "welcome drink" you can get a glass of tap water at the reception. No water bottle offered for free in the room for the first night. Room fine, bathroom very minimal, old-fashion and sad. Friendly advice: book a luxurious hotel room for the same amount of money somewhere else in Europe and skip the Netherlands, you won´t regret it.

Despite the Corona restrictions, I experienced a very pleasant stay at the hotel. Good service, breakfast and dinner was great and the facilities clean and adequate. As the hotel is located just in front of the UMCG Hospital I needed to work, I like to book this hotel on a regular basis. I would definitely recommend this hotel for business and even private stays.

Sorry can't advise you, went by train from here. I would expect there to be something since the hotel is opposite a huge hospital. Enjoy your stay!

We offer the carpark of the UMCG. We have a special deal for casrs during the week (between 19 hour-9 hour the costs are 5 euro per night, but outside these hours the costs are higher) In the weekend the carpark costs 10 euros per night/day. We do not have an own carpark yet.
