Detailed Reviews
It is simple, but it is good. It is as expected. but credits to the staff who try to help you when you have a question, answer with a smile. The rooms are simple, clean and good, Breakfast was good, with sufficient variety. We had some meals in the restaurant in the evening and again simple, but fair. Ideal location to visit Leeuwarden and the surroundings.

This hotel was great value. Its location was not that central (5 min drive from centre but if you go by car this is not a problem) or beautiful. The rooms are not particularly glamorous but are large and clean. The staff are very friendly and there is free wireless internet access. It made a fine ovenight stop and was half the price of the more centrally placed Bildeburg oranje hotel.

We booked this at the last minute after abandoning camping, and it was exactly what we were looking for at a very good price! Check in from 2pm, checkout by 12 noon with free parking immediately outside our room, good peaceful sleep and helpful staff. We didn't have breakfast at the hotel.
The room looked recently refurbished - comfortable twin beds (we'd have loved a double but not available for the price and Dutch hotels don't seem to have proper doubles anyway) with an attractive Friesian cow display, and even a Gideon Bible (big plus for us). Good TV, two comfortable chairs and a small fridge all in the room. The shower room is compact but all worked well, plentiful hot water etc. If there's an improvement we'd suggest it might be slightly more privacy for the shower room door and sound proofing.

We stayed here for one night, the check in went fast and friendly. We got a room at the third floor, spacious, clean,a very thoughtful room lay out, two good single beds, two work desks with sufficient sockets, coffee bar, water boiler, flat screen tv, free of charge tv, two good chairs, refrigerator, ward robe, a spacious bath room with two sinks, toilet and very good walk in shower. The temperature regulation worked perfectly and the room was silent. The breakfast was great, and the location was perfect for our activities. I wnat to say "Chapeau" Bastion in Leeuwarden!

After having booked a room for 2 adults and 2 children by phone and even confirmed it lateron by email, upon arrival we were told that the Hotel had committed a mistake in the confirmation and we could not be hosted as rooms were to accomodate only 2 persons.
After having driven nearly 800km that day and arriving at 8 p.m. we were told to either leave (!!) with our two children of 3 and 1,5 years or buy an extra room at a standard rate. Even though the lady at the reception agreed that it was the hotel`s mistake.
We had to get back in the car and find another Hotel as we did not agree to buy two rooms.
Absolutely unbelievabe! Not recommendable, especially NOT FOR FAMILIES
Thanks for making the trip miserable!

Stayed 3 nights in one of the new upgraded rooms. Had breakfast and evening meals at the hotel.
I liked the following: free parking; free wi-fi, very friendly staff (who spoke English), well equipped bedroom, nice buffet breakfast and very reasonable evening meals. The only downside (for some people) is it that the hotel is slightly isolated and it is a long walk into Leeuwarden centre.

We spent one night at the Bastion Hotel Leeuwarden in the Easter weekend. The hotel is located around two kilometers south of the city center and the main station, where we rented a bike and got to the hotel in 10 to 15 minutes. The room was simple and clean, the bathroom pretty small but okay for a short stay. The staff was kind and helpful; we did not have breakfast at the hotel.

Stayed two nights during a business trip. Clean comfortable room with a good wall in shower.
Quiet area no issues with noise as I was on the ground floor.
Also had dinner in the bar restaurant one of the nights. Big portions and good quality. Very friendly and helpful staff. The guy that checked me in was accommodating and a champion multitasker as he was running check in, the bar and also managed to get me an phone charger and iron. Typical hotel breakfast, with a cooking station for eggs etc. it starts at 6am which is handy for early starts. They also can provide a pack lunch.
Would recommend if in Leeuwarden for business, but if with a family or on vacation maybe look at other hotels in the area. A colleague of mind stayed at the Fredrick in the town center which she said was very nice.
The Bastion is about a 30 min walk to the town center with easy access via a viaduct under the main road that is adjacent to the hotel and then a footpath directly into the town centre.
