The Ambassador is a 4-star superior hotel with boutique hotel character and is part of the Meili Selection hotel group. The traditional hotel combines the elegant charm from the turn of the century with the history of the textile trade relations between Switzerland and abroad at that time and the modern life and amenities of today. The hotel includes 44 rooms and suites spread over 5 floors. Each floor tells the story of Switzerland's textile trade with a country or region with individually crafted interiors. Attributes of Spain, France, England, India and Asia can be found in the fabrics, inlays and decorative elements, which originate from the wealth of ideas of the well-known interior designer Ina Rinderknecht.

A nice hotel with plenty of the sort of charm that one expects from a boutique hotel. The room was comfortable and quiet. The hotel is well located some 10-15 minutes walk from the city centre and the old town; there is a tram stop about 150m away from where trams go directly to the main station (about 6 stops). Service was helpful and friendly, and I was able to check into my room straight away, even though I arrived before the official check-in time. The breakfast buffet was not as interesting as I thought it would be, but this is perhaps a minor point. All in all, a good place to stay and I would definitely return there if returning to Zürich.

Response from Hotel-Opera, Manager at Ambassador Hotel Zürich
Responded Apr 22, 2020
Dear MOTM2015, Thank you for staying at Small Luxury Hotel Ambassador and for your comprehensive review. It's great to know that we managed to meet your high expectations and it seems that our staff contributed a lot to the overall positive impression. As you say, we are conveniently located next to the lake and near Zurich's Old Town. A tram stop and Stadelhofen train station are a few steps away. As for breakfast, we focus on regional and fair trade products, supporting local farmers and producers. For instance, yogurt and cheese are sourced from natuerli Zuerich and coffee from Black & Blaze. We'd like to inform you that apart from Swiss Z'Morgen Buffet, you can choose breakfast a la carte or an express breakfast with a croissant, coffee, and orange juice. We hope you had a good time in Zurich and will be pleased to welcome you back as our guest in the near future. Kind regards, Michael Böhler, General Manager

We were glad we chose this hotel for the last few days of our 2 1/2 week Europe trip. This hotel really does live up to its small luxury boutique description.

We were surprised to be able to check-in in the morning, and when there was a small issue with the room not completely ready, they immediately set out to fix it and treated us to coffee and pastry while we waited a short while. Service was great, and I am confident that if we did have any other issue during our stay, they would've resolved it to the best of their ability.

The Superior room was great with all kinds of amenities, desk and table, convenient electric outlets, stocked mini fridge, a nice electric kettle, and a Nespresso Vertuo machine. The shower is massive with dual rain/handheld showerheads. The room lights and curtains are controlled by panels at the entry of the room and at each side of the bed. The balcony is large enough for a table and two chairs. Although the weather at the end of November wasn't great for sitting outside, the balcony provided a nice view.

Our rate included breakfast, which was great as well. The slices of meat, cheese, bread, and egg dish were all delicious.

The location next to the opera house and lakefront was a short walk from the nearest train station and still walkable to Zurich HB.

I stayed here for one night and my experience was excellent. The location is prime - in a beautiful area within walking distance to central attractions, and steps to Lake Zurich.

The lobby is small and pretty with a boutique feel, and I stayed in the Superior room, which was a good size, and furnished elegantly.

A standout was breakfast - I had the continental breakfast included with my rate, the dining space was very comfortable and I remember how lovely the presentation of the breakfast was.

Would absolutely return to this hotel.

The SLH Ambassador has a lovely boutique feel to it, with the great service and attention to detail you'd expect from a SLH member. Our (superior) room at 25m2 was cosy but clean and thoughtfully laid out despite a relative lack of storage space. There is an appealing lounge/bar on the ground floor next to reception and the restaurant. A real highlight of our stay was the breakfast - a large selection of top quality local produce encompassing everything from hot-smoked trout to alpine cheese, eggs cooked to order, and really friendly service. I have never had a disappointing hotel breakfast in Switzerland, but this one is really top-notch.

Freshly renovated and well appointed boutique property mere steps from Lake Zürich, the Opera House, cafes, restaurants and shops, this hotel exceeded my expectations by quite a lot! A member of the World of Hyatt program, guest rooms and bathrooms are spacious, modern and extremely comfortable. As a member of the World of Hyatt loyalty program, this property has it all.

We loved everything about our stay at this hotel. The staff are the real highlight from check-in to service at morning breakfast we found the staff friendly, helpful and service oriented. The room was a little small but very nice and adequate for our needs. The location for us was great close to everything that we wanted to see with most things within walking distance. We really enjoyed the breakfast each day... the only problem being this was the first stop on a 20+ day trip and none of our other breakfasts could match the service and food. Would definitely stay here again

I had a fantastic stay at the Ambassador Hotel in Zurich. The hotel itself was absolutely delightful, with comfortable rooms, modern amenities, and a superb location. But what truly set it apart was the exceptional service, particularly at breakfast. I must give a special shout-out to Jasmine and Amy who went above and beyond each morning. They greeted us with warm smiles, promptly catered to all our requests and truly created a welcoming atmosphere that kick-started our day on a positive note. Their dedication and professionalism significantly enriched our hotel experience. I wholeheartedly recommend the Ambassador Hotel, and don't miss out on breakfast served by Jasmine and Amy - they are a true asset to the hotel's team.

Although this hotel had wonderful accommodations, great service, and was in a prime location, the true highlight was the service we received by Remi. He was extremely helpful in giving us tips about Zürich and what we should see during our very short stay. He also followed up with us the next morning which was incredibly impressive. Thank you Remi!

**DO NOT BOOK HERE** I was on my honeymoon & we got stuck in Munich due to a snowstorm. All the trains and airports closed, making it impossible to travel to Zurich. I contacted the hotel for a refund since there was not possible way for us to get there and they denied our request. Almost every other hotel would have done something, even a partial refund due to the extreme circumstances. This is NOT a luxury hotel. Luxury hotels do not take advantage of travelers in extreme circumstances. Please please please do not support a business with such low ethics.

The restaurant Silk is a hidden gem. We ended by chance in the restaurant and were surprised by the quality of the presentation and food - we had a mixed salad with beef and a dorade - dekicious. The staff is friendly and very supportive. We will go again, this time because it is worth a revisit.

We are arriving by car . Is there parking available?
Answer from Princpessa
London, United Kingdom135 contributions151 helpful votes
I would suggest contacting the front desk by e-mail, Pascale in particular was very helpful, she also can make dinner reservations for you. As the hotel does not have parking facilities they may be able to negotiate a lower rate for you with nearby parking garage. Unfortunately, as you know Zurich is very expensive so if the hotel can help it is with asking. Do enjoy your stay.
Answer from Katymill2014
Oxford, United Kingdom59 contributions56 helpful votes
Two options. Don’t take a taxi they are ridiculously expensive and the trains and trams go right there. Train station is right in the airport-follow sign. Buy ticket from machines. Option one is take any train that goes through Zurich Main train station (HB or haupt bahnhof) get off at HB (10 min) and walk to the #4 tram outside. Take the tram to Bellevue or Opera and walk to hotel in 5 min. Option 2 if the timing works (these only run twice an hour but are direct) is to take the S16 to Stadelhofen and then walk to the hotel. This is faster and more direct. That’s also your best bet when you need to return to the airport.

Hi Jacqueline, it is a quiet hotel. While the lake/waterfront is only a few minutes away and there are a small number of local restaurants, the hotel's surroundings and immediate environment are low key with no visible 'rowdy' bars or nightclubs.
