That is certainly a distinctive tag, but what is really remarkable is the incomparable service, with extremely well trained and cheering staff. Food is above any standard in terms of quality and fresh ingredients, atmosphere is what one can dream about when thinking on those belle epoque times when luxury hotels were measured by how comfortable they were able to make guests feel. All went through the famed Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne, the Harvard of F&B post grad studies. And it shows. Everything is in the (many) details that differentiates an hotel from a palace. First the welcome at the entrance is a welcome. You do not wander around the lobby. You’re being accompanied to a quick check in and within minutes to your room. Rooms are of high quality, large, clear, modern & contemporary with beautiful marble bathrooms and every amenities you can think of. Several restaurants are waiting for your lunch or dinner, all highly rated. And they deserve their rating -thus I only had dinner at the Brasserie Baur- a very good business dinner. Old European charm and grandeur, but lacking in service quality to match. The concierge service was notably unhelpful and impolite. For the same price, you can find superior hotels in Zurich. During our two-night stay, a blend of business and leisure, we inquired about renting a car through the hotel for the day. To our surprise, they insisted on their "hotel car" at double the cost of Uber and Blacklane for the same vehicle. The concierge's discourteous demeanor persisted, and when I requested to speak with the manager, his response was condescending and uncooperative. Additionally, the rooms and hallways exhibit signs of wear and desperately require a renovation. The shower being within the bathtub made the act of showering uncomfortable, akin to a budget two-star hotel experience. Zurich offers numerous superior hotel options within this price range, making this establishment less than ideal."…

The Baur au Lac is a truly beautiful hotel and located very close to the old part of town and to the lake. Our room was beautiful, and the staff is excellent. The restaurants and breakfast are fantastic, and the concierge was very helpful as well. The train pick-up and airport drop off were very well executed by the drivers. Zurich is beautiful and the proximity to the Alps is excellent.

Rooms are nice, can do with a revamp given the price. Decent gym with beautiful view of Zurich lake. Breakfast service is good with a nice cold buffet and main courses to order. Outdoor terrace across from the main entrance is the best place for afternoon drink on a nice sunny day

In a city like Zurich, which serves as a global financial crossroads and a haven of cosmopolitanism, Baur au Lac stands out as a bastion of refined luxury and sophistication. Overlooking the majestic Lake Zurich and framed by a private garden, this 5-star hotel is more than just a place to stay: it's a sublime odyssey into the art of hospitality. Impeccable reception, but... Crossing the threshold of Baur au Lac is like entering another world, a world where elegance is the norm, not the exception. The staff are impeccably dressed, and courtesy is palpable. However, despite numerous visits, the reception has not been able to evoke that "homecoming" feeling typical of elite hotels. This shortfall might be attributed to staff turnover, a variable that could benefit from greater attention. Aesthetics and history: a happy marriage The hotel's design is an admirable example of how tradition can coexist with modernity. Every corner, every room is a testament to the skill of architects and interior designers who have collaborated to create a unique and engaging atmosphere while respecting the building's rich history. Cuisine: an unparalleled journey Baur au Lac's kitchen is an experience in itself. This review refers to Le Hall only. I have stayed at the Baur au Lac many times in the past, but have stopped going there after a very unpleasant stay some years ago. Ever since then I have stayed in an other Leading Hotel of the World nearby. But today we decided to go for a short rest and drink at Le Hall at the Baur au Lac. The young Waiter seemed lost, disorientated or disinterested or all three of them. When I paid by card he walked away without saying a word, I did not even have an opportunity to ask for my receipt, he was away so quickly. Not quite what I would expect from a 5-Star Establishment, even though we only came for drinks.

This hotel was beyond our expectations. The hotel and rooms were beautiful, clean and well appointed. The staff and service were exceptional and helped us with every little need. Our bags got lost in transit on our flight in and we had to go back to the airport to get our stuff and the hotel arranged a driver for us, who walked with us into the airport and knew exactly what to do to retrieve our bags. There was no way we would have figured it out without him! He was sooo helpful! We also had a rough journey in and after finding out about our trip in, the hotel not only made sure our room was ready right when we arrived, so we could rest, but also upgraded us to a suite! The food was spectacular! We had dinner at Pavilion which is a 2 star Michelin restaurant and it was such an amazing experience. As you can see we were very sad when we had to leave but I’ll do anything to go back!…

The rooms are a decent size and the service is great, especially the concierge he was friendly and nice. It’s close to most of the tourist destinations about a 5 to 10 min walk to the shops. And they have a great breakfast service in the room or the breakfast dining area with a nice view from it. The rooms have a great view as well of the river.
