Edelweiss Zermatt Mountain Hotel & Restaurant is located perched high on a rock, overlooking the town of Zermatt. The only access is by foot, 45 minutes walk up from Zermatt, along a hiking path. Edelweiss is surrounded by alpine natural beauty, and offers a peaceful getaway from city life. The view down to Zermatt is superb. Edelweiss was built in 1898 and maintains much original charm and character, with thick stone walls and wooden floors, whilst offering modern shower and facilities, and superb wifi connection. There is a wonderful terrace, open to the public during the day as a mountain restaurant, and a BBQ area. We can provide pack lunches for days hiking. Edelweiss is open for the Summer months only, from the end of May until early October. We look forward to welcoming you.

The warmest reception and kindest and most friendly host I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting! I have nothing but infinite praise and I’m so glad that what was just a little drop in turned into a highlight of our Zermatt experience. Thank you so much!

Our stay at Edelweiss will leave us with memories of a lifetime! We highly recommend Edelweiss (both overnight stay and restaurant). As others have said, the hike up is steep (but doable—allocate plenty of time for the hike up, pack minimally, and take breaks as needed) but extremely worthwhile. The views are second to none. Pip and Rico’s hospitality is amazing—they are kind, warm, and attentive. Our room was very clean and comfortable (we were worried that we would feel cold at night but the beds were equipped with down comforters so we were very warm and cozy). The shared shower and sinks were extremely clean. The food is also amazing! We enjoyed the carrot cake, tortellini, spaghetti, Edelweiss rosti, toast, and fries. There is nothing like Rico’s home-cooked food after a long day of hiking (especially after doing the hike back up to Edelweiss).

This is such a beautiful place to walk up to and have coffee/ cake. Great views of the village, very friendly and you feel like you have earned your coffee once you arrive. It’s the best view in Zermatt without having to take a lift or train. Very much worth the effort of the 300m climb from Zermatt.

The Edelweiss is a fairly step but short hike above Zermatt and even if you are not staying there, a visit is a very good idea. Host Pip is just a super delightful woman who is a real pleasure to talk to and she serves the tastiest carrot cake full of nuts and covered in a creamy, yummy cream cheese frosting. A little piece of sweet heaven above Zermatt.

Philippa and Rico are super friendly hosts, the views are great and the food well worth the effort of getting up the hill! The cheese toast was delicious and the apple pie probably the best I’ve ever tasted. It actually takes less time than one might think to get there from the village, about 45 minutes at a leisurely pace.

I was traveling to Zermatt to have a few quite days in the mountains, to calm down and go hiking. Pension Edelweiß is probably the best place in the entire region to do that! Located in a beautiful quiet spot above Zermatt, with breathtaking views on the surrounding mountains, the Edelweiß is the perfect place to calm down, relax, but also to go hiking, trailrunning or mountaineering. Rico and Philippa, who are running the Edelweiß are great hosts, and I felt welcome from the first minute of my stay! Everything was perfect, the food, the rooms, the view, and most of all the hospitality of Rico and Philippa! I will definitely come back when I visit Zermatt the next time. Even though guests have to plan a one-hour hike to reach the Edelweiß from Zermatt (only half an hour to walk down again), it's still absolutely possible to do trips from Zermatt to one of the world famous places like Gornergrat and Hörnlihütte, or even one of the many surrounding mountains and mountain huts.

We stayed up at Edelweiss over night for a birthday celebration with our friends. Already while organising the birthday, Rico and Pipp were very helpful. On the day itself, it couldn't have been any better - an all you can eat BBQ with a great view over town, followed by a lovely evening with our friends in the cosy living room of Edelweiss. The rooms are very lovely decorated, we felt like at home and slept very well. All the time, Rico and Pipp made sure we are all happy! It's easy to see the passion, they do their job with - we can't wait to go see them up in Edelweiss again! Highly recommended and definitely worth the short hike up from town. Thank you Rico and Pipp for an unforgettable day and night!
