Edelweiss bergrestaurant & pension is located perched high on a rock, overlooking the town of Zermatt. The only access is by foot, 45 minutes walk up from Zermatt, along a hiking path. Edelweiss is surrounded by alpine natural beauty, and offers a peaceful getaway from city life. The view down to Zermatt is superb. Edelweiss was built in 1898 and maintains much original charm and character, with thick stone walls and wooden floors, whilst offering modern shower and facilities, and superb wifi connection. There is a wonderful terrace, open to the public during the day as a mountain restaurant, and a BBQ area. We can provide pack lunches for days hiking. Edelweiss is open for the Summer months only, from the end of May until early October. We look forward to welcoming you.

My partner and I stayed overnight at Edelweiss and loved every minute of it. Propped right on a cliff edge, we felt like royalty looking down on our 'kingdom' (Zermatt) directly below, and also because of the hospitality of our hosts, Pip and Rico, who kept us happy and well fed. Delicious food, super comfy bedding and a very cosy atmosphere with loads of interesting mementos dotted around the dining room. Our hosts knew the area well and were able to advise us on hikes and what else to do during our time in Zermatt. Don't forget to check out the cool bread knife if staying overnight!

Edelweiss has the perfect suntrap terrace and only a 40 minute (steep!) hike up from the centre of town for a unique view of Zermatt. The hosts Pip and Rico are always ready to greet with a friendly smile and a delicious piece of carrot cake! Also a great spot to have an overnight stay with a few of your friends. The rooms are always clean and tidy, the bathroom spacious and the shower has great water pressure. Definitely a favourite summer Sunday arvo chill spot...

You're looking for a sweet atmosphere away from everything but close to reach (in less than an hour walk from the village). Plus you are in need of a good laugh. Oh and you need to stiffen those hamstrings a bit as well. You logically go to Edelweiss. Pip cooks the best carrot cake in Wallis (Unterwallis included). I had to take a doggy bag with me as the portion was enormous + I wanted to live THE cake-experience again later. Warning: very addictive. Rico is the only Zermatter who makes you laugh to tears and nearly to blood. Better have your cake after the jokes and once the stomach cramps have stopped from laughing that hard. I am not a specialist of Sunday Roast (except that I tend to devour Yorkshire puddings), because I am still so Swiss; however, I noticed that the local British are very fond of the Swiss Sunday BBQ up there. No Yorkshire Pudding am afraid (but carrot cake remember...) I will probably book the whole place for my wedding, but you are invited to the party as Edelweiss is a place for conviviality. And conviviality. Did I mention conviviality? Thanks again to Pip and Rico for their exceptional sense of hospitality and love, every time I went up there to or from a long hike between Zmutt and Trift.

I go to Edelweiss regularly - a visit there is a great way to get a little exercise and then reward yourself with some amazing cake! Situated in a little valley and perched high above Zermatt, Edelweiss has incredible views and is a lovely relaxing place to spend an afternoon, enjoying something from the menu, a cold beer and of course - carrot cake - in the sunshine. The hosts Pippa and Rico are great fun, very professional and knowledgeable about the area and can give good hiking advice too - they also run a fun barbecue on Sundays which is great value for money. Definitely a must-visit place in Summer!
