    Friendly Small and Picturesque Hotel
Romantica is either or small hotel or a large B&B. Old Swiss in style and decorated similarly inside. We had a nice sized room with a small terrace overlooking the charming town. Bathroom was great, large but easy to use the shower. Breakfast was served every morning in homey fashion. Hosts who owned the hotel were as friendly and helpful as could be. When they saw that my wife had some difficulty getting up the road to the hotel, they sent their son to help her with her small suitcase and to lend her an arm up the slate rock path. Also, they completely took over getting us to the train station when it came time to leave, carting both us and our luggage there in plenty of time. I take one star away simply to note that for people with some degree of disability or age it is a bit of a challenge to get up to the hotel (but not to the room once inside as there is an elevator). Do note that this hotel charges for your room about a month before you arrive, so if it has trouble with your charge account then you could find yourself without a room. It is up to you to make sure that everything is in order and that the charge goes through in timely fashion. All the foregoing notwithstanding, this is a nice and cost-effective place to stay whether coming for a hike in summer or skiing in winter.

Small hotel, family run, treats you like family
Small hotel lovingly run by a family. They have decorated the entire hotel in their style and you feel as if you have been invited into their home. Small room with twin bed (I was traveling solo), was thoughtfully designed to provide maximum storage space via closet and shelving, all with quality finishes. The room lighting design and bathroom fixtures and shelving thoughtfully chosen using quality finishes. They really put a lot of thought into how the room and the hotel is decorated. Friendly, helpful, courteous staff makes a stay a pleasure.

    Romantic in deed
We absolutely loved our experience at the Romantica. The location is pretty good, one block away from the main street and close to grocery stores, ticketing office, stores, ski rentals, bars, and restaurants. The hotel itself is so pretty, more like a bed and breakfast rather than a huge hotel. We traveled from Chamonix to Zermatt and we got picked up by Thor from the train station, He checked us in, and we noticed the cutest, sweetest puppy (Miss Kimmy, she allowed us to pet her and we were delighted, I guess she knew we missed our dog) and then Thor gave us the keys to the room, the night key to the main hotel door (don't forget to bring it every time you're planning to stay out late) and the key to a locker to leave the ski equipment overnight (don't worry is safe it's in a small garage and they close it at night). We adore our room, especially the view from our window. In the morning we met Michelle ( the owner) and she offered us breakfast in the little cozy dining room. The breakfast is pretty simple with freshly baked goodies, Michelle might insist you eat before hitting the mountains. On our way out of the dining room we got greeted by Miss Mousey, the nicest calico cat you'll ever meet, don't be afraid to pet her, she loves people. On our way back from the slopes we stayed talking for a while with Thor and Michelle, they have the most amazing stories and suggestions to tell. Overall, we really enjoy the experience, coming from big and small hotels and being away from home, a bed and breakfast in Switzerland with the nicest people that treat you like part of their family is absolutely the best.

Hotel is just the quaint Swiss hotel we were looking for. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, beautiful hotel, and old-fashioned swiss breakfast. It's a hotel with a soul, with a beautiful garden, artful decorated room and kitchen, and its central location. Most importantly, Michèle and Thor are wonderful hosts. Thor explained the hiking options in great detail on our day of arrival, looked up real-time webcam, and reported live experience of a fellow hiker to help us plan our adventure. When we left our phone charger behind, they locate it within minutes, and mailed to us at our next stop, along with a lovely note. We will definitely stay here again!

Exceptional hotel with the most wonderful hosts, Michelle and Thor! They go out of their way to help you feel welcome and answer questions about the town. The location is perfect, a few minutes off the main road, but very close to everything! It is a steep walk up the hill, but worth it if you can do it! The gardens are exceptional - every time we returned to the hotel, I felt like I was stepping into a fairy tale! Comfortable beds and nice selection of food at breakfast!

Wonderful hotel with a beautiful garden in a quiet lane off the main street. It’s about an 8 minute walk from the train station. Thor was very helpful and thoughtful in helping us plan our days and Michelle is a lovely host. Our breakfast was delicious and we enjoyed the lovely views from our windows and balcony. We can’t wait to return one day. Highly recommended.

We stayed 2 nights in this lovely property, welcomed by even more charming and helpful hosts, Michelle and Thor. The room was recently upgraded, tastefully decorated, and from the balcony, had excellent mountain views. The property itself is centrally located, still a short 2 mins walk down to the main street, so you are away from the hustle and bustle of the main market, yet at stone’s throw distance from all shops, restaurants etc. Thor was so very helpful, and takes exceptional pride and enthusiasm to guide you on your queries and provide suggestions and recommendations, which were all so helpful, it was like living with family who provided invaluable local intel, and made our trip all the more memorable. Thor’s recommendations were always so spot on ! I can safely say the property is one of the most photographed hotels in Zermatt, as everytime we were either leaving or entering the property, there were always some tourists clicking pictures in front of the lovely garden, you need to see the pictures of the property to understand what I am saying. Michelle provided the warm welcome and homely feel. Every tiny details were taken care of, as an example, when we checked in, we realised there was no sugar sachet in the room. When we asked, Thor personally came up to the room to welcome us (we had not met him at check-in) and brought the sugar sachets with him. This speaks volumes of the care both Michelle and Thor take of their guests. Whenever we visit Zermatt again, I am definitely staying here again !

Beautiful hotel worth the high Swiss rates. Very welcoming and caring reception. Excellent breakfast, including hot/cooked (not common in Switzerland). We will certainly look forward to returning. A bit of a struggle bringing heavier suitcase up the steep stone path, but the owners happily help

Exactly what you need in Zermatt, a perfect and central location, clean and well-equipped rooms, a very good breakfast and hosts, both Michelle and Thor that are welcoming and have plenty of knowledge. The tips that we got from Thor were right to the point and helped us improve our daily plans. We will surely return.

If you are doing a through search on where to stay in Zermatt, stop looking, you won’t go wrong with Romantica. In fact, you’ll have the most personalized experience. The whole staff merits a standing ovation for cleanliness, ambiance, tips, delicious breakfast, friendliness and hospitality. Michèle and Thor pay attention to detail, requests and they not only make you feel at home but are always willing to go above and beyond to make your trip to Zermatt above unforgettable. We’re grateful for our stay and could witness other guests having a similar experience to ours. Best bed and pillows ever, room temperature is perfect, if you are there on a ski trip they provide you with a locker for gear and both fury friends, Kimi and Mausi made our journey, one to remember. We will be back ;)

Have you ever stayed in a hotel where the owners knew everyone's name? That is one of the many personable qualities of Michéle and Thor. Always 'going the extra mile' to suggest winter walking routes, recommend restaurants, advise on activities in Zermatt... they were always available to assist or answer questions. The personal touch is what stands out for us. We shall return!

We visited this lovely hotel in 1974 and stayed 4 weeks, had a wonderful time. We stayed in a chalet outside the hotel which was great. The best skiing we ever had. A lovely family so helpful and friendly. The grandmother let us use their kitchen to cook our dinner. Generally we eat out. It feels like only the other day. Seems they are just as friendly and helpful today with the next generation as they were back in the seventies. Sorry for taking so long to do a review but better late than never. God Bless
