Staying at Hotel Romantica ❤️ in Zermatt was an unforgettable experience! The location is perfect—just 500 meters from the train station, making it incredibly convenient. The highlight of my stay was the warm hospitality from the owners, Thor and Michele. They personally served the buffet breakfast every morning, which was both delicious and thoughtfully prepared. On my first day, I unfortunately missed breakfast, but as I was heading out around 10:45 am, they surprised me by reserving some food for me to enjoy before leaving. It was such a thoughtful and touching gesture that truly made me feel cared for.

The room itself was immaculate and had everything I needed. The balcony offered a stunning mountain view, which was a perfect way to start and end each day. Thor and Michele went above and beyond to make me feel like a VIP throughout my stay. They remembered my name, attended to every need, and even took the time to explain the local attractions and recommend food options based on my preferences.

I feel incredibly lucky to have secured two nights at this gem of a hotel, especially since it’s almost always fully booked. I will definitely come back again to experience their amazing hospitality and this beautiful place. If you’re visiting Zermatt, staying here is an absolute must. Thank you, Thor and Michele, for making my trip so memorable! ❤️

We absolutely loved our experience at the Romantica. The location is pretty good, one block away from the main street and close to grocery stores, ticketing office, stores, ski rentals, bars, and restaurants. The hotel itself is so pretty, more like a bed and breakfast rather than a huge hotel. We traveled from Chamonix to Zermatt and we got picked up by Thor from the train station, He checked us in, and we noticed the cutest, sweetest puppy (Miss Kimmy, she allowed us to pet her and we were delighted, I guess she knew we missed our dog) and then Thor gave us the keys to the room, the night key to the main hotel door (don't forget to bring it every time you're planning to stay out late) and the key to a locker to leave the ski equipment overnight (don't worry is safe it's in a small garage and they close it at night). We adore our room, especially the view from our window. In the morning we met Michelle ( the owner) and she offered us breakfast in the little cozy dining room. The breakfast is pretty simple with freshly baked goodies, Michelle might insist you eat before hitting the mountains. On our way out of the dining room we got greeted by Miss Mousey, the nicest calico cat you'll ever meet, don't be afraid to pet her, she loves people. On our way back from the slopes we stayed talking for a while with Thor and Michelle, they have the most amazing stories and suggestions to tell. Overall, we really enjoy the experience, coming from big and small hotels and being away from home, a bed and breakfast in Switzerland with the nicest people that treat you like part of their family is absolutely the best.

We stayed 2 nights in this lovely property, welcomed by even more charming and helpful hosts, Michelle and Thor. The room was recently upgraded, tastefully decorated, and from the balcony, had excellent mountain views. The property itself is centrally located, still a short 2 mins walk down to the main street, so you are away from the hustle and bustle of the main market, yet at stone’s throw distance from all shops, restaurants etc.

Thor was so very helpful, and takes exceptional pride and enthusiasm to guide you on your queries and provide suggestions and recommendations, which were all so helpful, it was like living with family who provided invaluable local intel, and made our trip all the more memorable. Thor’s recommendations were always so spot on !

I can safely say the property is one of the most photographed hotels in Zermatt, as everytime we were either leaving or entering the property, there were always some tourists clicking pictures in front of the lovely garden, you need to see the pictures of the property to understand what I am saying.

Michelle provided the warm welcome and homely feel. Every tiny details were taken care of, as an example, when we checked in, we realised there was no sugar sachet in the room. When we asked, Thor personally came up to the room to welcome us (we had not met him at check-in) and brought the sugar sachets with him. This speaks volumes of the care both Michelle and Thor take of their guests.

Whenever we visit Zermatt again, I am definitely staying here again !

Romantica is either or small hotel or a large B&B. Old Swiss in style and decorated similarly inside. We had a nice sized room with a small terrace overlooking the charming town. Bathroom was great, large but easy to use the shower. Breakfast was served every morning in homey fashion.

Hosts who owned the hotel were as friendly and helpful as could be. When they saw that my wife had some difficulty getting up the road to the hotel, they sent their son to help her with her small suitcase and to lend her an arm up the slate rock path. Also, they completely took over getting us to the train station when it came time to leave, carting both us and our luggage there in plenty of time.

I take one star away simply to note that for people with some degree of disability or age it is a bit of a challenge to get up to the hotel (but not to the room once inside as there is an elevator). Do note that this hotel charges for your room about a month before you arrive, so if it has trouble with your charge account then you could find yourself without a room. It is up to you to make sure that everything is in order and that the charge goes through in timely fashion.

All the foregoing notwithstanding, this is a nice and cost-effective place to stay whether coming for a hike in summer or skiing in winter.

Small hotel lovingly run by a family. They have decorated the entire hotel in their style and you feel as if you have been invited into their home. Small room with twin bed (I was traveling solo), was thoughtfully designed to provide maximum storage space via closet and shelving, all with quality finishes. The room lighting design and bathroom fixtures and shelving thoughtfully chosen using quality finishes. They really put a lot of thought into how the room and the hotel is decorated. Friendly, helpful, courteous staff makes a stay a pleasure.

From a friendly welcome to assistance with all our luggage, our whole experience was magnificent. Michelle and Thor, the owners, are always on hand to assist in anyway they can. From advise on the skiing areas and restaurants to booking tables. The hotel has been in the family for decades.
Our whole experience was very pleasurable. The location is ideal, just a stones throw from all the main attractions, shops and restaurants, yet sufficiently far not to be disturbed. I would have no doubt about booking this hotel again. This place is without a real hidden gem.

We had two nights at this beautiful hotel and we loved everything about it, the room was modern, warm and comfortable with a great view from the balcony. It’s in an ideal location set back from the Main Street so perfect for access to everything.

The cooked breakfast every morning was delicious with a wide range of food available.

What sets this hotel apart are the owners Thor and Michèle, they made us feel so welcome, nothing was too much trouble and they made it feel like a home from home. Thor picked us up from the train station and then took us back when we were ready to leave.

Thor gave us lots of information on where to go and what to see, his advice to take the Gonergerat railway up the mountain to see the Matterhorn was excellent.

We have many fond memories of Zermatt and of the Hotel Romantica

We, Marcus and Kristina, recently had the pleasure of staying at the Hotel Romantica in Zermatt during our March 2023 trip, and we cannot express enough our satisfaction with this amazing experience. The hotel really deserves a 5 out of 5 for its outstanding personal service and quality.

From the moment we arrived, we noticed the friendly and attentive owner family who were always ready to assist with whatever we needed. They showed genuine concern for our needs, which made our stay extra special and comfortable.

The rooms were not only clean and well maintained, but also offered a very nice view. It was a joy to wake up to a nice view of Zermatt village and mountain scenery.

The hotel's atmosphere really contributed to a lovely homely feeling. We felt at home from the first moment, and this small, charming hotel quickly became a place we looked forward to returning to after a day full of adventures in the mountains.

In conclusion, we can truly recommend Hotel Romantica to anyone looking for a memorable and heartwarming stay in Zermatt. We are already looking forward to coming back!

Really enjoyed my stay at Hotel Romantica! Michèle and Thor (and Kimi the dog) are wonderful hosts. Nothing was too much trouble and they were always ready to help!

It's less than 10 minutes walk to the train station and is just off the main street so pleasantly quiet. Thor picked me up from the station at short notice which was very much appreciated. When it was time to leave, he kindly carried my case down the little steep hill which was a big help.

There is a beautiful garden. My room, a single, was clean and cosy. It had a kettle and a balcony ... both of which were welcome!

The breakfast spread was enjoyable - both continental and cooked options available.

Zermatt was very busy during my stay so it was nice to retreat to my quiet haven at Hotel Romantica! I was sorry to leave my home away from home but hope to visit again!

There are 2 main cable cars/train up the mountains. To get to the Matterhorn it's like a 15 min walk but there is a bus you can take. The other is Gornergrat which is right across from the train station and is like a 5 min walk. For us that was our favorite and it seemed super close. Each guest gets a ski locker for your skis and you take your boots in and leave them outside your room. They can pick you up from the train station but we walked. Everything is super close

I agree that the views of the Matterhorn are not ideal from this hotel, however, it is a great place to stay as long as you like a boutique hotel. The very best views of the Matterhorn and surrounding area are up the mountain via the Gornergrat train or hiking up if you are fit and adventurous. Enjoy Zermatt!!
