We enjoyed the stay in this hotel despite suboptimal weather as we unfortunately could not see the Matterhorn during 48 hours in the village! The room was clean, nice and large enough to spend time in it while it was raining cats and dogs outside....More
My stay at the Europe in Zermatt was the culmination of a 10 day hiking tour through the Bernese Oberland. It was a wonderful choice as the hotel staff was welcoming, the ambience relaxing and the location quiet yet convenient to main street Zermatt. The...More
This hotel was the best one we stayed at during our Swiss trip! I had done my research on tripadvisor and other places and booked our room at the Europe Hotel & Spa. We took a room with the view of Matterhorn. From the moment...More
After three years without going to Europe, we finally got back to Zermatt and the Europe Hotel in June. This is the 6th or 7th time we have stayed there. It is a home away from home for us. We were there for 8 nights....More
Stayed here one night in Zermatt. Receptionists were very friendly, checked me in without any problems, showed me around the hotel and then showed me to my room. Explained the amenities in the room and wished me a pleasant stay. The hotel is decorated very...More

Yes there was a lack of snow in the Alps this past Christmas/New Year, but Zermatt had the best skiing available in the region. No off piste this time, but enough trails open to keep us happy. The snowmaking is excellent and the Matterhorn paradise has a glacier on which you can summer ski, so no problem in December! The fact 2015 had a snow drought means it is less likely to happen in 2016. Skiing beneath the Matterhorn has to be experienced, we ski in Colorado a lot, which we love, but Zermatt is special. We always take the train which you can do from Geneva or Zurich, change at Visp for the stunning final leg up the valley to Zermatt. We arrived on Boxing Day, so missed Christmas, but New Year's Eve was amazing as they really go to town, so don't miss that if you are going!
