Room was lovely, staff friendly, food good and views great - Mr Matterhorn kept his hat on, but lots of other amazing views. However- yes we knew to stay was going to be expensive as we had booked the most expensive room- well why not we were celebrating. We were disappointed that there is no discount available for the return train journey from Zermat for guests or partial journeys when going for a hike during hotel stays. A single trip for both of us from Rotenboden (first station on way down) was 28 CHF and due to the weather if we decided to go to Zermat for a few hours it would have cost 204 CHF return for both of us. Will not be back - may be only as a day visitor. Construction ongoing beside hotel for a new experience until Spring/Summer 2021 - they started work after first train which is fine, but one morning - skip being picked up 6:45 am - not a great start to the day! We were not told when booking or at anytime before our visit regarding this.

Extremely nice personnel - wonderful dinner - giant breakfast buffet - incredible view - perfect to admire the stars. Very peaceful - especially when all the daily tourists have left with the last train. Already looking forward to the next time I can visit this place.

In a sense, this may be my favourite hotel in the world, all in all. It is far from luxurious, of course, and beakfast could have been a bit better (though dinner was good), but the experience of spending a night at 3100 meters is unforgettable. Once the last train goes back down the mountain, and you and the other guests are alone in front of the Monte Rosa, the moment is magical. I got up early next morning for the sunrise on the Matterhor, thinking I would be alone, but there were about 10 of us out there enjoying the crisp morning air.

Having missed the train we decided to have lunch on the sunny terrace of the Gornergrat Restaurant. At the self-service area you can help yourself with drinks, sandwiches and desserts but for meals it gets very confusing, even if you speak the language. The staff was rather rude and the food was not very good. They should really re-think their order-and-delivery process.

If you want to hide from the buzz of everyday life you MUST come here. Here you’d want to wake up 6am to catch dawn and see Matterhorn lights up like a candle. Here you’d want to set an alarm at 3am to gaze at the stars. Oh the stars .... there are so many so bright!! You will never be tired here of hiking up and down to Zermatt ,the possibilities are for everybody! The hotel is cute , we stayed in a suite with so many windows our jaw dropped. Room is huge and the bathroom so big and clean ! There’s a shower with huuuge pressure you’ll never want to get out and a bathtub with a huge window overlooking Monte Rosa. Free water (4 small bottles) are given daily . Breakfast buffet has plenty of choices and there’s also a selection of hot plates freshly cooked. I only hated the coffee machine ... it never gave me a good cappuccino ahahahahah. Dinner is also included in the rate and has a salad buffet and a soup then a selection of main plates and dessert . Food always very good ! Staff is always nice and friendly with a sincere smile on their faces. I’d love to come back and I recommend this beautiful hotel !!
