We had a double room (I can only imagine what a single room was like). It was extremely small filled completely with a queen and a single bed which we used to store the luggage (no other place to put it). There were not really any places to put your wallet, keys, phone, info for the next day etc except on that twin bed too. There were only 2 plugs for chargers unless you use the fan (which is a must from mid-June through September) then there is just one. The bathroom is very small (you have to close the door to get near the toilet). The bathtub is also small and very narrow with a big step to get into it which coupled with the slippery tub surface makes it very dangerous. Some nice things were Location (right in the center of town) which made it easy to walk to the train and all the sights, the helpful and friendly desk clerk, the small but good breakfast (Breads, eggs, Salami) and the elevator! These are the reasons I gave it 2 stars and not one. Might not have been so kind if we stayed more than one night. Definitely the worst place we stayed during our 30 day trip to Europe.…
When you pay 200 euro for a double room , you expect to get a proper room and not a dorm room. There was no air condition on a scorching day, only a fan. The room was also very rundown. The breakfast was a pleasant surprise, although the milk was off
The photos look better than the actual hotel,it is quite dirty, there are no charging ports for devices and there is no air condition. On the other hand the receptionist is really friendly and nice. Though it is not worth it for the money you pay in my opinion.
Perfect location in the very centre of Lugano. The staff was extremely friendly. Breakfast was fresh and tasty. The car parking (Motta) suggested by the hotel was ideal and not very expensive and in short walking distance on well paved way, so we had no problem to roll our suitcase for about 100m. As we have booked the hotel in 2021 in „no cancellation” option we have lost our money in 2021. But as compensation in this year we got ugrade. Pretty fair. Definately recommend this hotel.
Hotel well located in the center of Lugano. However the rooms of this hotel are very very basic. This is not what I was expecting. There is no bathroom (the sink is in the room with a separate toilets). While raising our frustration, the owner didn’t offer any upgrade (all rooms are the same in this hotel).
Lugano is a fantastic place with a nice lake and mountains. This hotel is in the middle of town what adds to your experience of Lugano. Staff very friendly and helpful. The room was complete with a small bathroom. All clean. It's an old building in the middle of town and therefore a bit noisy. Noisy inside but also from outside and a very small lift. Still, middle of town. Breakfast ok. Walking distance to the lake, train station and other public attractions. I'll book it again.
The workers were very friendly and gave us good advice about restaurants or places to visit. The room was always clean and the breakfast was good. The Hotel is very central and easy to find. Thank you!!
I stayed at the Hotel San Carlos in September 1969, yes, 1969, with my Mother. Our last day here, my Mom had a heart attack and the personnel at this wonderful hotel helped this American Girl so much. They called the ambulance, and even though they were completely booked for the next day, they let me stay in the Porter's room which was not being occupied at that time. I had to take the elevator to the top and then walk up one flight of stairs. it was a wonderful little room with a window that looked out on the roof. Mom and I were on a strict budget and at that time we paid $5.00 per night for our room. When they moved me upstairs, they only charged me $2.00 and they fed me a free breakfast and it was wonderful. Each morning as I would come down to breakfast, everyone from the Manager, to the Waiter, to the dish washer, would greet me and ask how Mom was doing. They sent me to a farmers market for wonderful cheese and fruits. I stayed an additional 10 nights with them while Mom stayed in the Hospital. After the 10 nights, Mom was released and we took a train back to Zurich where we caught a flight home to the USA. I will never forget the kindness and love the people at this Hotel, and in Lugano in general, showed me. The hospital was wonderful to Mom and she had wonderful care there. I am 73 years old now, and how I wish I could visit again. Unfortunately, I am disabled and I cannot travel to Lugano. However, Lugano and the San Carlos Hotel will always be in my heart.…
Small budget hotel, clean but allocation is strategic. From train station to funicular to the hotel is less than 10 minutes. Breakfast is ok, basic. Room is also ok, clean. For the price paid, everything is good. Coop is next to the hotel, so it is very convenient. Highly recommended. The staff is very helpful and friendly.
If you are looking for a average priced comfortable hotel with an excellent location this is it. However the breakfast was substandard. The staff though was very helpful. Rooms clean and neat and excellent restaurants at close promity.
