Location is perfect. Close to the city and public transports. Great parking place. Amazing garden and pool with a very smily gentle manager. Everything is very clean. Amazing classical design. Great lake view. Despite railtrain, the insonorisation is very good. Gentle professional staff especially the bartender and the pool manager. Clean rooms. Good generous breakfast. I 'll come back with enthusiasm. Only disappointment point, sleeping cushions and duvet.
Friendly and dedicated reception staff. We had two rooms in two seperate buildings. There's also a building with hostel accommodations. (very interesting because you can meet a lot of people). My single room was right in front of the rail tracks. Couldn't sleep straight through so be sure you do not get a room that gives on the track because they are very near. The bathroom had a tub in which I could relax after so much driving. The other room was very satisfying. We didn't have breakfast because we found the cafeteria a bit overcrowded, Covid wise. In the evening we had a drink at the bar with very friendly and professional staff. We then moved to the restaurant. We were greeted a bit on the cold side but the situation warmed further on. Dinner was decent. The premises are beautiful. The ambiance in general is very relaxed.…
I stayed at the Continental in 2018 and at that time I liked it a lot. It's why I was looking forward to spending another few nights at this hotel this year. And It's still very nice, close to the city center and right next to the station, very convenient. The main building has a lot of "belle époque" charm and is surrounded by an 'oasis' full of palm trees in which you can also find the pool and the restaurant, which is worth visiting, especially if you want to avoid the crowded tourism-oriented restaurants in downtown Lugano. But before going for dinner, don't forget to pay a visit at the bar where you can choose from a large selection of cocktails or other drinks and if you can't make up your mind, the bartender will happily propose you one of his own creations. After drinks, food and possible even more drinks, you probably want to go and relax, sleep, or do whatever in your room. I strongly recommend booking a Superior Plus room since you'll likely end up with a renovated room facing the lake with a terrace or balcony from which you can enjoy the late-night thunderstorms. A few notes regarding the room: the Continental likes designer light fixtures. According to your personal taste, they look great, but they are oh so fragile. So be careful not to break anything (as an incentive: check the prices online ;-) ). Also don't expect tea, coffee, or a stacked mini bar... it's still a 3* hotel, not a 4* (although the Superior Plus room is categorized - and priced - as 4*........... ). Anyhow, after a good night of sleep - personally I didn't hear the trains passing by - it's time for breakfast. And it's here where hotel Continental lost a star in my rating. Not because of the offer, on the contrary. You'll find everything you'd wish for, including prosecco... but coffee... where's the coffee??? The problem with the breakfast is the service, or the lack thereof. The three or more staff members present will not show you the way to an available table and they will not pro-actively offer you coffee or tea. Their priority 1, 2, 3 and 4 is cleaning. Just making sure that as soon as you leave your table, it's turned over. I will call it the Roomba service (ref to some product name) or the 'bring your own coffee'-breakfast. Because that exactly how the staff behaves during breakfast, like cleaning robots without personality. And to make things worse... if you're the last ones to have breakfast and all the cleaning is done, they will just start staring at you until you leave. I don't know why, but something is wrong with management of the staff. Another example is the happy hour (between 17h and 18h) at the bar. Obviously, it's the time everyone orders at the same time. But the bar is staffed by only 2 people who, how hard they even try, just can't serve everyone at the same time. So as a guest: be patient. And to the bar tender, Giuseppe I believe but I don't know for sure since no one is wearing name tags (would be too personal, right?), chapeau! The way you handle the stress while always staying friendly... you're a rock star! Oh, and to all guests who complain about the 'problematic' parking facilities: have I mentioned the hotel is right next to the TRAIN station? Why bother waiting hours in front of the Gotthard tunnel anyway? So, to conclude, I still recommend this hotel, but I truly hope the working conditions of the staff will improve since it'll reflect positively on the guest experience.…
Spent 2 nights in second house, very noisy since too near to the railways, mouldy smell in the house and in the bathroom, for the price of 200 CHF per night too high for this service, breakfast ok but no proper management during COVID, too nice pictures on web, really disappointing.......too many people at the same time, limited parking due to high number of guests
Hotel is close to the railwaystation, but quiet. We had a room facing the garden. Plenty of palmtrees. There is a happy hour from 5 to 6 pm. The room very! large and beautiful bath. A few steps up from the outside bar is a large swimming pool. Breakfast like in the olden days without Covid 19. Self service.
