Situated high above the Bay of Lugano this exceptional boutique hotel offers first-class suites and rooms. The tastefully arranged spacious rooms, the terraces with breathtaking views, two heated outdoor pools, tennis courts and a wide range of facilities leave nothing to be desired. Neither does the exquisite Mediterranean cuisine of Dario Ranza, served in the light-flooded restaurants. Jewel of the hotel is Kiso: a heavenly, exclusive Spa offering unadulterated luxury, privacy and exclusive treatments. Nothing else to be desired - a truly royal feeling.

From the friendliness of the staff, to the food, not to mention the view, this is one of if not the best hotel’s I’ve ever stayed in. A bit pricy, yes, but worth a night or 2 for a special treat. We also went in December when Ticino is not in the middle of tourist season so you will get a true local feel.

Came here for an overnighter as a holiday gift. In the 'great' department, I am including the complementary upgrade to a large and very comfortable room with a spectacular view, the ultra-luxurious spa with access to a private jacuzzi/Turkish bath/sauna and expert services, the attentive and top-class staff throughout the hotel. In the 'not-so-great' (and much to my chagrine) I am including my dining experience - pan-fried octopus on a chickpea pancake (octopus did not seem fresh and the overall dish was lackluster in flavor), followed by lobster with pumpkin, ginger and lime (flavorful dish, lobster claws perfectly done but other parts were raw). Every restaurant has its ups and downs - was it because it was a weeknight? Chef not in on weeknights? Who knows. Breakfast the next day was also disappointing - watery scrambled eggs, cheese platter with bits dried around the edges ... hmmm... not what one would expect from a 5-star, Relais et Chateaux. Would I go back? For the room, the view, the spa and the excellent service - yes. But I would eat elsewhere.

I must admit the hotel is lovely, the location is breathtaking, however a little further than I had expected from the city center... up a steep hill... but the big room, the very well organized bathroom and toilet, the balcony all would make me go back again. The breakfast is also great. Dinner was a little on the expensive side, however it was excellent. The morning wait staff seemed to be not as good as the dinner waiters and I sensed some small personeel issues... however they were mostly very accommodating and pleasant. My taxi didn't arrive on time to take me to the train station and the lady manager made sure someone from the hotel drove me. All in all it was a lovely stay.

This is unquestionably an excellent hotel: ultra-modern, well run, luxurious, peaceful, and set in a beautiful location above Lake Lugano. But I have some reservations about it. 1) Potential visitors should be warned that the restaurant, bar, and room service options are all outrageously expensive by US standards (e.g., $48 for a club sandwich). 2) The drive up to the hotel is not for the intrepid. 3) If you travel with electronic equipment,as we do, you will be unpleasantly surprised by the scarcity of electronic outlets where you can recharge your cell, computer, and kindle or run your sleep sound machine.
