We were relieved to be in the historic centre in a heritage style building as many parts of Lucarno are modern with very bland architecture and frankly you scratch your head to find a choice of decent midrange restaurants which are not high end or touristy.Forget about retail and craft shops
If it was not for the hotel we would have stayed in Ascona.without doubt as within its historic centre there is a range of restaurants and hotels lakeside and facing its sweeping harbour as well as diverse shopping opportunities
However we chose Locarno specifically for this hotel as a base for our six night stay as we spent little time in the town itself
The hotel room tariff is consistent for a hotel of this quality in Switzerland and it specifically states rooms not bed and breakfast. We often do not always like regular breakfasts in hotels and many do exclusive and inclusive of breakfast. However we did inclusive and were not disappointed. It was not a typical breakfast and it changed everyday - healthy fresh products with creative combinations the likes of which we have not experienced before. The breakfast area "Feel So Good " was part of the hotel yet open to nonguests through another entrance
Firstly the hotel has reserved parking a few minutes walk away which was a bonus
The hotel has been renovated and has a lot of quirky art throughout communal areas and rooms
We chose a spacious corner room which was full of light. There were all the amenities and facilities there including coffee machine and safe.Importantly the mattress was high quality and extremely comfortable.
The rooms were cleaned to a high standard.
The reception is open during certain hours but the manager/owner is always available if needed and that is not surprising as there are only few rooms

We recently stayed at the Caffe dell'Arte in Locarno. My girlfriend booked the place for my birthday weekend. The rooms are located above a decor shop. The lady who checked us in was very friendly and for it being my birthday even gave us a room upgrade.

The room had a nice sitting area and a quiet bedroom. The room was quite memorable for its upholstered walls with mirrors. Very unique and slightly quirky. It's an experience.

Our television did not work and only played music, but the complimentary iPad helped keep us entertained before going to bed.

The rooms also feature a selection of art that can be purchased by guests.

Our one disappointment was that during the winter there is no breakfast offered.

Cute boutique hotel in the middle of the old part of Locarno. Its a mixture of a b&b, a cafe and a florist! Very relaxing atmosphere. Public parking available around and there is also a parkhaus nearby. Staff were very friendly and hepful. Highly recommended.

Having stayed in 4 star hotels in Locarno in the last years, our choice this time fell on the so called Bed&Breakfast Caffe dell’arte in the historic center of Locarno.

The rooms look beautiful with individual decorations, spacious and a beautiful terrace and cafe. What a disappointment!

At the moment of check-in we were told that no breakfast is being served. If we had known about this before our choice would not have fallen on this place we would have gone elsewhere. Images on this portal related to the nice terrace and cafeteria give a false impression. Don’t assume anything, reality is different.

The room was not clean there was dust on the tables and bathroom. Giving the beauty of the details in the room decorations, some of the decoration shown on the hotel website was missing.

The welcome drink offered on the hotel website was not served. Caffe dell’arte, yes, but only from the room Nespresso machine.

I’d like to keep this hotel a secret so we can always stay here without fear of it being booked-out. I think this has to be our favourite holiday accommodation ever. Loved the location in the old town a bit away from the busy tourist areas, the unique décor, the comfortable bed, the Venice room’s separate sitting area with a writing desk and coffee making corner (ask for more coffee if you need it), the old-world charm, the little balcony with French doors opening to a view of old buildings and palm trees but most of all, we loved the incredibly welcoming, friendly, and helpful staff. It’s a family run business and the breakfast chef, Niels, who was not family said he felt like he was! And that’s the treasure in this hotel, you’re treated like visiting family.

We liked the hotel’s simplicity which seems more environmentally friendly than huge hotels with 24-hour reception and lots of wastage. Instead of fridges in every room, for example, they have one big one in the hall to share. There also weren’t little bottles and packets of toiletries which are usually wasted. Instead, they had big re-fillable soap and shampoo dispensers.

Now back to Niels. Breakfast was also a unique and creative experience. No big wasteful buffet or menu with standard fare. Instead, they have a talented and creative chef offering something special. We had freshly made pancakes and the softest wholemeal, grain croissants I’ve ever had, both topped with warm homemade raspberry compote. (You can see these special pancakes on their Instagram site.)

My only suggestion would be that it would be wonderful if they could open the Café for breakfast every day. (It’s closed on Monday and Tuesday) Although the family sent us off to some perfectly good breakfast spots on those days, once we got to try their offer, I was very sorry that we only got to eat there once.

So, although I’d like to keep this hotel a secret, I’m writing this long revue in appreciation for all the effort, thought, warmth and creativity they put into their business. Thankyou to you all.

We arrived at the hotel and had to temporarily park on the side of the street to register and leave our luggage. There is no parking nearby as we are in the heart of the city. I had instructions for the parking but got lost on the way and so finally reached the hotel by foot..
Our room was nice and comfortable but with a noisy air conditioning; We liked the bathroom. The breakfast was original, it was presented to us one course after another. It was not by choice but we enjoyed it very much. The garden is very pleasant with beautiful plants, an oasis in the heart of the city. It is a family run hotel and the staff was very pleasant. We enjoyed the city and tour of the stunning lake.

Excellent location, very close to everything. “Live like a local” kinda experience. You feel at home when you enter this small hotel, and we also understood why: it’s a real family run business: we met the owner, a lovely lady who made us the best breakfast ever, her smiley daughter, her talkative son and also her professional sister! Everybody is there to make you feel welcome.
Breakfast is served at the table (no typical buffet!), and each day you get something new. You want an experience, this is a great experience.
We also enjoyed the combination of the décor, the art, the fashion store and art gallery.
Very strongly recommend.

Positives:
1)No doubt the hotel has great location and beautifully designed rooms .
2)Staffs are also very helpful and relatively easy to deal with .

Negatives:
1)We arrived around 5:00 pm and there was no one to let us in as there is no reception and u enter the hotel through a store front which was closed! We waited around 10 minutes until someone responded and let us in .

2)Once we checked in we found that there is no elevator and we need to drag the luggage to the 3rd floor..

3) Air-conditioner was very noisy ( I mean really loud weird noises) so we couldn’t sleep the first night , told the staff and they said it is normal! Then we decided to leave the windows open during night which meant we couldn’t sleep before midnight and were up at 7:00 am as the street was very noisy ( people, cars, etc)

4) Breakfast was always a challenge . There was no menu and we never were given options to chose from . You should eat what was chosen for u and those choices was not standard( shrimp salad, smoked fish,...)

5) They chose to have refillable dispensers for shampoos and soaps which is great but during our stay they never replenished so we ran out of shampoo and soap after day 3.
Replacing/replenishing coffee and tea supplies in the rooms was also not consistent.

Overall that was not what I expected from a highly ranked hotel. I can say this place has a lot of potential but definitely will not get high ranks from me the way it is today

Response from Caffedellarte, Proprietario at Caffe Dell'Arte Boutique Rooms

Dear Niloofar M, Thank you for your feedback. We are very happy you found us very helpful and easy to deal with. We are a family run business and we love spending time with our guests. We are also pleased that you enjoyed the centrality of our location, right in the heart of the old town of Locarno! I see however you pointed out there were some negative points, which I see mostly are probably misunderstanding. Regarding the check-in, we explain in the confirmation that we are a family run hotel, therefore we do not operate a 24 hour reception and we kindly ask to inform us as early as possible about your arrival time in Locarno. However there is a doorbell just outside the main entrance…please next time if you don’t see us, use it. Yes, we don’t have an elevator. It’s a 15th century property and unfortunately it’s not possible to install one. But we never published we have an elevator. We clearly state there is no elevator on our website and in the confirmation. And, just to be clear, there is no 3rd floor. We only have 2 floors. You were on the second floor. The air conditioning was installed brand new last July, anyway thank you for your feedback. We will check your room with a technician. Regarding the breakfast, we are very surprised you wrote that since we constantly asked you if everything was ok and you seem very happy. Yes, our breakfast is different. Everything is fresh and prepared at the moment. There is no buffet, everything is served at the table and each day you get a new menu. We are proud of the feedbacks we get from our guests here in TripAdvisor and on other platforms. I hope this helps Emanuele Owner

This is an unique place to stay. We enjoyed our four nights, and the staff made us feel very welcome with nothing being too much trouble. Maria-Teresa even walked my wife to the local hospital emergency room when she feared a possible dvt after our long flight: that's above and beyond!

We spent one night at Caffe dell'Arte. This place is really special, has a wonderful ambience and is colored with lovely details. The stuff is very friendly and helpful. Every room is furnished differently with a specific theme. It's located in the the picturesque alleyways of the old town. Shops and restaurants are near by.
