We ended our 2 week river cruise on 10/1/2021 in Basel Switzerland. Our plan to stay on in Switzerland would begin in a two night stay in Wengen. We had looked at many hotels and decided on the family owned Hotel Edelweiss. We were greeted by owner Daniel at the door and all required vaccination requirements were checked. This hotel is nestled downhill from the Wengen downtown shops among other small hotels and private homes. Check in was a breeze and our rooms were very nice with a small balcony overlooking the mountains. Our traveling friends had a bigger balcony but slightly smaller room. The bathrooms are small in our rooms but modern and very clean. Daniel showed us the breakfast and evening ding room. A beautiful breakfast is included with fresh made juices and ground coffee. Pastries, breads, cheese, meats, smoked fish on Sunday along with you prepare soft/hard boiled eggs. Cereals, yogurts, fresh fruit. Thomas one of Daniels employees was there to assist along with Daniel. The evening ding is a set 4 course meal. The dining room is beautiful with a fireplace and plenty of windows. We reserved the 4 course meal the first night and loved it so much we reserved the second night also. The chef is quite good. The second night included schnitzel or cheese fondue. The four of us decided on two schnitzel and two fondue. Daniel talked with the chef and they gave us each a smaller plated schnitzel and we all had fondue. Thomas was our nightly waiter and more. You will not go wrong to stay here for a day or longer. The hotel offered a variety of beers, self-serve honor system. Patio out back was quiet and had great views of the mountains. To take the train out of Wengen ask for a local cab to carry you and your bags up the hill to the station. Daniel took care of the reservation. Thank you Daniel and Thomas for a wonderful stay. We felt like family even though a short stay.

My son and I stayed at Hotel Edelweiss in August 2021 for six nights. After spending those incredible days hiking all around the area, I believe Wengen is the best town and Hotel Edelweiss is a wonderful place to stay. It felt like home. The people are welcoming and so helpful. Daniel and Tom recommended some great hikes and even accommodated us for dinner when we got back late. We are from the United States and travelled during COVID. We wore masks on all trains and indoor spaces but we spent as much time as we could in the outdoors — and here the outdoors are breathtaking. Wengen is the perfect town — it’s a short train ride up from Lauterbrunnen and you can take the gondola up to Mannlichen and on to Grindelwald or you can take the train to Kleine Scheidegg and also on to Grindelwald. There’s no traffic in Wengen. It’s picturesque but has a grocery store and several restaurants and shops. We also liked Murren but it’s harder to get to — you either have to take a bus up the valley to the gondola or take the gondola in Lauterbrunnen up to Grutschalp and then a train to Murren. Lauterbrunnen itself is beautiful with all the waterfalls in the valley but there is some traffic. Wengen has wonderful views of Lauterbrunnen. We also liked Grindelwald but it was busier and seemed more touristy. As for the hotel, our room was superb - we had the corner room on the 2nd floor (floors are ground, 1, 2, 3). We had a balcony with incredible views of the Jungfrau and Silberhorn peaks. Our window looked down on the valley and we could see the falls. We enjoyed breakfast each morning is the splendid restaurant. We had planned to explore more for dinner but it was so nice to have a wonderful meal at the hotel after a day of hiking. We ended up eating at the hotel four of the six nights. The food was delicious with excellent service. This area is blessed with stunning beauty all around. Just point and shoot your camera in just about any direction and you have a postcard. One of the most spectacular views is in Mannlichen — a very short ride up the aerial cableway from Wengen. Truly spectacular. Make sure you take the short walk up to the observation point for a 360-degree view of the area where you have a jaw-dropping view of the Jungfrau peaks including the Eiger, Monch, and Jungfrau. You can also see down toward Interlachen and Grindelwald. The wildflowers filled the meadows making the full scene so memorable. It’s expensive, but consider getting the Top of Europe pass to explore the area. We used it to visit Jungfraujoch. Again, expensive, but the views of the glaciers and the vistas from up there are stunning. We were blessed with clear weather but it was below freezing even in August. I would recommend going when the weather is good and go early so maybe the crowds are less. As for hikes, my two favorite were 1) Mannlichen to Kleine Scheidegg (panorama and views of peaks and Grindelwald), and 2) Grutschalp to Murren on the upper trail — steeper at the beginning of the trail but worth it for the views of the peaks as well as Wengen and the Lauterbrunnen valley. Take the short walks up to the little hills on the meadows on the second half of the trail. While my son and I took a break on one of the hills, I told him it was now one of the favorite places I’ve been. It was special — no people, wildflowers all around, a light breeze, sunshine, and the splendor of the mountains. What an incredible place. Unless the weather is bad, you won’t be disappointed. Hotel Edelweiss is an excellent place to stay and the area is oh so beautiful.

Our stay was amazing! We were originally planning to stay for 3 nights but we extended to a 4th night because it was so great. Wengen is such a beautiful town in the mountains and in a perfect location. Daniel and the hotel staff were very welcoming and provided excellent suggestions. They changed our room to a balcony room with a view of the glacier which was very much appreciated. We had some lovely nights drinking wine on our balcony. Wengen and this hotel felt like home to us. The restaurant food was fantastic and a great price. It is a rotating menu and we ate here 3 nights in a row, which is something we have never done when traveling. Some of the best food we have experienced! Everything felt very safe and they follow Covid recommendations. We would love to come back to this magical place! Thank you so much!

We recently spent 4 nights at the Hotel Edelweiss with friends. Daniel and Thomas made us feel part of their family. We enjoyed our balcony with gorgeous views of the Jungfrau. Thomas helped us plan 3 days of beautiful hikes in the area. We ate our evening meals at the hotel. Each night was a different menu featuring locally produced healthy foods tastefully prepared. The included breakfasts were varied and featured locally baked breads. This was our third time staying at the Hotel Edelweiss and hopefully we can return many times in the future.

Edelweiss Hotel is your home away from home. Dani and John do a great job and always have time to personally contact with each guest. The rooms are great and the restaurant and food is fantastic. Wengen is right in the middle of the mountains, great for hiking and heaven for skiing. Can’t wait to return! Thanks
