The hotel is about a 5 minutes walk from Interlaken Ost railway station. To shop, just walk along the road. You‘ll also find a store where you can book paragliding. Towards the hotel, you find the rather exclusive stores (watches, jewellery), about 5 more minutes further down the road, you‘ll also find food stores, clothes, shoe stores and more. The hotel has a large lobby area. Breakfast is delicious and offers a wide range of food to choose from. Popular among Asian tourists. My suite was large enough and also offered a spacious bathroom. The hotel has a certain age already. However, they are busy renovating (one floor was under renovation during my stay). A minor negative point was the fact that they don‘t accept contactless payment yet (you need a physical credit card). This is something I was quite surprised about from an Accor 4 star hotel.

We were in Interlaken on the third stage of our trip through Switzerland and were coming in after haveing a lovely time at the Schweizerhof Hotel in Bern. We as a couple had stayed in the Mgallery collection of the Accor Hotels in Greece and had very fond memories of the stay and were looking forward to a very similar experience The schlep from the Interlaken Hauptbahnhof to the Hotel is about a 10 minute walk. The road is relatively level and though there was some construction work going on, we did not find the walk strenuous. (We did find out later on that the hotel has a shuttle, which can pick up people from the station or drop them off, (though this is hardly advertised.) The hotel is situated in a well maintained old building. There was no doorman on the outside, so we had to ferry our suitcases up ourselves. We had requested an early check-in, which, unfortunately the hotel was unable to provide. The check-in process, itself was quick and relatively painless. The girl at the front desk was quite efficient and promised us that the room would be ready at the appointed hour of 3 pm. A quick peregrination around Interlaken, both to get a lay of the land and for food, helped us to fill in the couple of hours that separated us from our room. The room allotted to us was in an annexe. The approach to the room, involved taking an elevator up to the first level in the old building, traversing a corridor and then taking another elevator to the room. I would like to think that the bigger rooms (we were three of us) are in this annexe, and hence this pilgrimage. It was only on the last but one day that we realised that we could take the lift in the annexe to the ground floor and let ourselves out and come back the same way using our keycard. The room, itself was quite spacious and easily accommodated the double bed and the extra cot that we had asked for. However, the placement of the bed was in a very awkward position, in front of the entry to the bathroom and hence was a constant source of irritation to the person occupying the bed. Also, the cot provided had extremely squeaky springs, causing both my wife and daughter, both of who are light sleepers, to wake up multiple times in the night. The view from the room was definitely not an advertisement for the beauty of Interlaken, overlooking as it did, a courtyard littered with construction material. Having made peace with all of this, we then proceeded to use the intercom to request for a few hard pillows, only to discover that the intercom was completely mute. This, thus entailed one of us going down to the reception with our request and then hoping that it would get sorted. The explanation for this failing was that there had been an outage in the system and that no one was at hand to get it repaired. The solution to the problem, was to call the reception over the mobile network and place our request. To the credit of the reception staff, they called back promptly if they had been busy on another call. As far as the pillows were concerned, the hotel did not have a choice and we had to make do with what had been provided. Wi Fi is provided by logging in to a Swisscom hotspot - the code of which is shared by the front desk. This was fortunately quite stable and reasonably fast. However, the validity is for two days and the renewal process has to be then repeated We did order room service, via the reception. The service was quite prompt and the quality of food - we had a pasta - was of a very good standard. Breakfast is basic and is definitely skewed toward non vegetarian options. Falafel was a standard option along with Pita. Both were dry and chewy and after the first day we opted to stay with bread, fruits and cereal. The staff in the breakfast area are friendly without being effusive. A point of some concern is that there is no service lift in the hotel. The staff uses the same lifts that the guests use. So it should come as no surprise to a guest if he sees a dirty linen container accompanied by an apologetic cleaner occupying the lift that he had summoned. We had had a lot of expectations from this hotel, but sadly we found our stay to be less than appealing. While its location is good, I feel that it does not live upto the Mgallery standards of the Accor group of hotels

We are Accor Gold members and on arrival were put into a room we didn't book. Not an up grade but it seemed like a down grade. Smaller room not like what we booked. Then offered a room without a bath....what we had booked. Excuse was that not all rooms have baths, except we had a confirmation of a room with a bath. Finally we got what we ordered after a bit of a hassle! Hotel is close to the railway station and will take you back for your departure. Restaurant is not that popular so you get a sense of maybe there is a reason for this. Yet we had a very tasty and well prepared dinner. Breakfast was good. Staff at breakfast are 1st class. Every time we have visited there seems to be work going on....resulting in issues. Like no phones! Not up to Accor standards!

Response from MGallery By Sofitel, General Manager at Hotel Royal St Georges Interlaken MGallery

Dear DavidGHallett, Thank you very much for taking the time to comment your recent stay with us. First of all, please accept my sincerest apologies in the name of the entire team for providing you the room you have expected in the first place. As you mentioned there were some ongoing renovation works and therefore the amount of available rooms was very limited and our Front Office staff needed to work with similar room categories as well as with different upgrades which was not an easy task. I am glad to hear that finally you received a room which was up to your expectations and I very much hope that you enjoyed the time you spent in Interlaken. Once again, please accept my apologies for falling short of your expectations - sometimes renovation works are necessary and will consequently lead to a better place, although I am well aware that it can be inconvenient sometimes. We are looking forward to welcoming you again whenever your travels lead you back to our beautiful town, in order to provide you the stay which you expect and to show you our improvements. Best regards, Karim Mohamed Front Office Manager Hotel Royal-St.Georges Interlaken MGallery Collection

My pre-requisite for booking any Interlaken hotel for our stay was a minimum 4 star, sauna and a double bed. I love saunas and for me after my daily exercise program a hot sauna is perfect to relax! Your reception staff were excellent on arrival. When I enquired about the sauna, she explained that as long as I notify reception, I can request a sauna at any time. On day one I had a fabulous 86-degree sauna at 7.30am, it was great to have a “proper” heater and not the infra-red heater that are so common nowadays and to relax afterwards in your solarium area. The only comment was the glass door is a real struggle to close and requires attention. On day 2, at around 5.30pm I went to reception to request a 6.30 am sauna the following morning, the male receptionist was attending to a customer. Whilst I was happy to wait , one of his colleagues , the porter asked if he could help me. I explained that I wished to have a sauna the following morning at 6.30 .. He said he would ensure a message was left for the sauna to be ready for me. At 6.30 the following morning I proceeded to the sauna and wellness area to find a cold sauna. The "double bed" in 101 is shocking- It is 2 single beds pushed together with a double sheet over the top of the two singles. There was a huge depression between the two beds . The bed looks like a roller coaster ! So much for a double bed to snuggle up to my wife in bed ☹ Breakfast overall was very good. The selection is amazing , the fresh fruit, fresh fruit juice, and much more ..it did have the wow factor however the bacon and sausage were sat in a pool of fat or oil. (Many of the better hotels tend to put a few slices of bread under the bacon and sausage to soak the excess fat or oil up.) 10/10 for the fabulous Christmas decorations ! I do make a point of reviewing any place that delivers exceptional customer service as much as those that disappoint.

This was the worst hotel I have stayed in in years. We stayed in beautiful hotels all over Switzerland that were less money. From the moment you walk in you can see it is run down with peeling paint and stuffed up doors etc. Nothing is cleaned or taken care of. I walked into the elevator and there was dirt and chips all over the floor. They put up in a room in the newer area which is like a ugly motel room overlooking a horrible junk lot. The room, was almost $500 a night and there was mold in the shower and it was just disgusting. They then showed us another room in the older section that was even worse with clearly visible stains on the chairs and just gross. It was unbelievable to me. The whole town in run down. The breakfast was a mess and with no service. DO NOT STAY THERE or let them invest some of the money they make by cleaning up the place

The hospitality from Anna at the front desk was the best I’ve seen in a long time! Breakfast buffet had a good selection. Dinner menu was limited but great and delicious options. Room was great, bed was very comfortable. Bathrooms were very modern and updated. Location of hotel was perfect for us as it was quiet and far enough away from the downtown area but close enough to walk for 5-8 minutes to a restaurant. One of my favorite hotels, will be coming back!

It was a beautiful experience in this hotel. From the moment you arrive you feel at home. All the staff super friendly and willing to help you and they always have a smile on their faces. The hotel is super clean, the beds very comfortable and super abundant breakfast. Thanks to the waitress (I think her name is Gabriela) who was always attentive with our breakfast. Everything is close to walk. Beautiful place. I will definitely return to this hotel in the future. Thanks to all the staff and Rudolf, he is always very attentive in everything we need.
