We stayed at the hotel Berggasthaus First in late August. The place is idyllic, with fabulous views of the mountains of the region, especially the Eiger, Wetterhorn, Mönch, Jungfrau and the valley of Grindelwald. You can reach the hotel via the cable car from the center of Grindelwald, until the final station First. The cable car ride is beautiful, with... More

A demanding but glorious 2-3 hours climb above Grindelwald, depending on whether you take a break at Berghaus Bort, about half way up. A busy mountain-top restaurant designed principally with skiers in mind, it divides into a self-service area and a very civilised, spacious quiet area with table service - from where there's a fine view of the mountains over... Stayed one night at this cable car station with superb views and excellent food. Clever arrangement of the dormitories gave a little privacy. Showers were some distance away but were good. Dinner was excellent and the balcony allowed views of the mountains opposite as the sun set. Breakfast was good too and plentiful. Recommended.

We stayed over the weekend for skiing and the kids loved the adventure of staying up the mountain, even though the visibility was zero. My kids have quite bad food allergies, and the staff & kitchen were extremely supportive and helpful. Great location for intermediate skiing. Overall the staff were so friendly, helpful and welcoming. Great value for Switzerland, too.... More

With an early season and unusual heavy snowfall in the forecast, I was the only guest overnight, and had a quad room to myself. Despite having only one guest, the staff maintained service quality at the highest levels - thanks to Cornelia and Ramona for their hospitality. The snowfall with total whiteout at 2,200m is an experience in itself. The... More

Our idea for new year's was to skiing with a couple of friends somewhere in the Swiss mountains. Booking very late we were happy to still have the chance to book this place at the end of october. Our group of 8 got a 10 person bedroom to share, without extra payment. 8 person was perfect for the room, 10... More

Very nice hotel in the mountains of the Bernese Oberland. Wonderful Mountains suround the Hotel. The hotel isn't luxurious but that is not what you would expect in the mountains for a hotel which is mainly for hikers. The value is outstanding and we had a room incl. Dinner and Breakfast which both was very good.

Stayed here on 2nd night of our Tour de Jungfrau Region, hiking from Schynige Platte. Hats off to the staff here as this was only location that actually recognized our 15th wedding anniversary---with a free champagne toast and special candle light. Good food, service and engagement by staff--to all the guests we noticed. They seem to do things right here.... More

We travelled up by the First cable car , with views on the way up were nearly as good as the views from the restaurant. The food is excellent with a very good selection and good service. There is both waiter and self service options available. Food is of a very good quality and portions sizes are good. The best... More

This place was awesome. What can I say about the views but outstanding. The mountain streams churning their way down to Grindewald - the mountain range views - even got to see a rainbow over the valley. The hospitality of the staff was amazing. We got upgraded to a small dorm all to ourselves as we were there in off... More
