Oh my goodness this hotel is nice. We like fancy hotels it has to be said and but I think this was the best we've stayed in in Europe. We booked it on the morning of the day we arrived. We had been in the South of France and had to escape as our government decided we would have to quarantine for two weeks if we didn't leave France by 4am the next day. So we looked at a map of Switzerland, decided Gstaad wasn't too far to drive (it was a bit further than we thought) and found the Gstaad Palace on Bookings.com. We then booked it directly with the hotel as I find these days for top hotels you get a better rate and a better room if you book directly. We arrived tired after our long drive, but I was delighted to find that our rate was half board so dinner was included. We were also given an upgrade on one of the rooms. We had a junior suite which interconnected with a classic room. Both rooms were exquisitely furnished with a beautiful marble bathroom, with rain shower, bath with TV and double sink with loads of shelf and drawer space. The room had a fantastic dressing area with two huge wardrobes and - finally - more than enough coat hangers (most hotels never give you enough!). The bed was super comfortable, the views lovely. It's very rare that we go to a hotel room that so exceeds our expectations but this one definitely did. What else can I say? The dining room is lovely and when the weather's warm enough (which it was on a couple of days) you can have breakfast and dinner out on the beautiful terrace overlooking the mountains. The food was great and they have a vegetarian and vegan section on the menu. It would have been good to have more non-pasta vegetarian options but those they had were delicious. This is the only hotel I have ever stayed in where I felt we lowered the tone a bit when we walked into the dining room. There were a lot of fabulously rich looking people who had obviously been coming for years. The cheery concierge Stefano really made our holiday. As we only booked the hotel the morning of our arrival I didn't have any time to research where to go or what to do (we like walking in the mountains) but Stefano gave us some excellent suggestions which we really enjoyed. The concierge can also give you lift cards so you don't have to queue up (not that there were any queues - Gstaad was blissfully quiet). The hotel has an outdoor pool which is open to the public and slightly separate from the hotel. We went over there one day but there seemed to be some sort of party going on so we went back to the main part of the hotel and went in the blissful warm pool with just the best massage jets of any pool I've been in. The pool is outside (although you can enter it from the inside) so you can wallow in it while looking at the scenery. It was heavenly. There is also an indoor pool (which had doors open to the outside) if you want to do swimming. The spa area is also heavenly with beautiful changing rooms and a rest area with a fire. There's a good gym too which we didn't visit (we were getting enough exercise in the mountains). Gstaad is a beautiful little village. Yes, extremely high end with Madison Avenue type shops, but very pretty nonetheless. In fact the whole area is utterly charming with gorgeous wooden chalets with window boxes brimming with flowers. The scenery is just delightful - the mountains aren't as high or dramatic as in other parts of the Bernese Oberland such as the Lauterbrunnen valley, but it's still exquisite, pure chocolate box scenery. There are quite a few mountain gondolas running in the summer to get you up high, as well as the Glacier3000 cable car which is well worth doing. Switzerland is very very expensive and this was probably the most expensive hotel we've ever stayed at. But actually compared to the one we stayed at in Taormina a couple of years ago which was almost as pricey and nowhere near as good, this felt like a bit of a bargain. I would love to go back. It was heaven.

We have been going to Gstaad for years. We have rented a chalet many times, we have stayed at other hotels but nothing beats The Palace. Great rooms, looks of space, great internet, amazing olympic size pool (could be 2-3 degrees warmer but huge so understand why that may not be possible. Our rooms were interconnecting and everything worked well. They all took C19 very seriously with lots of sanitiser stations all around. Everyone was also very good at keeping a good social distancing. The bar is always great and we used room service a few times; that Club Sandwich is just the BEST! Kids had an amazing time. Lots for them to do and lots of elbow room. It is an easy walk down to the village. We are going back next year!

The Palace Hotel is the last of old fashioned privately run Hotels where they can organise anything you need- My wife and son aged 8 spent 18 nights here when The Palace re-opened. It was my first choice of Hotel with all the goings on with Covid. I knew that The Palace would surpass itself in terms of the right balance of hygiene and the sheer practicalities of running a 5 star Hotel. It sure did from the expertly handled quick turnaround of daily laundry to the extremely kind and efficient 3 concierges, Stefan, Stefano and Giovanni who together with the whole team in reception must have scanned over 300 pages for me throughout my stay, Barbara who as in charge of Guest Relations was always present at times when needed and efficient and kind at that, Mario in the bar for the best daily bullshots, Andreas for his totally unflappable attitude and serious organisation of the restaurants-Carlos the wonderful doorman. These are only a few of the truly excellent staff all run under the owners watchful eye. This is a Hotel like no other with the best terrace in The Alps. The service here is outstanding on all fronts. The beds incredibly comfortable. All in all a faultless stay and yes I would go again!!!!! Thank you TO ALL the team at The Palace.

On behalf of the whole Palace team, I would like to thank you very much for the nice compliment. You can be sure that everyone will receive it and be happy about it. I have stayed in 2003 when I was a University student in Switzerland and it was a dream to return someday. I have been saving money for months to be able to cover the cost for a 2 night stay back then, just to experience the hotel and restaurants. The dream came true and I returned for a few days to enjoy the lavish decoration and true hospitality. The place has been renovated since then and the rooms are of great taste with high quality amenities. The restaurants are of excellent quality and the Italians are doing a great job. Personalised service and very friendly. The bar is still a meeting point and a place to be. I will return soon as this is one of the best hotels in the world.
