I am not an avid feedback giver but having stayed at Alpenclub for four nights over New Year, feel compelled to advocate this charming establishment in the picturesque village of Engelberg. Bursting with character and charm and yet humble and unassuming, with multiple interior contours of wood and rock, a roaring fire, multiple restaurants serving exceptional food (I can recommend...

We loved everything about Alpenclub, both hotel and restaurant. Stayed for four nights during Christmas period. They had only eight rooms and we had the whole hotel for ourself for few nights then it was three families in the entire hotel. We stayed for four nights and got upgraded to Steinberg Room. They also provided extra bed as requested. Service...

With only eight rooms this is a hotel where you don't stand in line in front of the breakfast buffet. Nice, rustic interior design, good food and good service. Separate guest parking. A hotel I certainly would like to visit again!

A small hotel with around 10 rooms , but it has 3 great restaurants and a really cosy bar . The hotel is in the centre of the old part of Engelberg and has loads of character , just what you want in a mountain village. Everything is close by including the free ski bus . We stayed for 3...

This is a small boutique hotel in the old town of engelberg. There are only 8 rooms. The bar is popular and lively. The rooms are spacious and decorated in a comfortable Alpine style with lots of wood and cupboard space. The breakfast is a little spartan if you are looking for the full English but this is Europe. My...

I can't even imagine staying anywhere else while in Engelberg! Our room was beyond compare! The food was wonderful! The bar was charming! We stayed in The Titlis Suite and highly recommend booking this room! We really didn't want to leave! Everyone here is very friendly and helpful. Thank you for making our anniversary extra-special!

It is very interesting and has lots of diplomas and rewards. Everything is made of wood. I was told that Engelberg has a long history as a luxurious tourist resort with grand hotels which were used to demonstrate one's status as a member of an upper class. It was incredibly important to present oneself correctly and make the right impression...

We were driving through Switzerland on our way to Lake Como. I stayed with my 3 children for one night, arrived very late in the evening, after 23.00 and even then the cook stayed awake to make us a very nice meal. We were thrilled by this kind gesture. This kind of un-expected service and friendly atmosphere is very rare...

This hotel is top-class! I stayed four nights for skiing and was impressed: the house is a very nice mix between old "Alpenhütte" and a modern hotel, and has been carefully renovated with high quality materials (wood, rock). The rooms are very nice with excellent beds, cofeemachine and a very fresh bathroom. Teh hotel is centrally located, and the atmosphere...

My wife and I had planned a Christmas in the Alps for the last 2-3 years for our three sons and their families (15 of us). Our travel agent recommended Engelberg (out of 4 total places), and specifically The Alpenclub. We had concerns as to whether this would be the "special place" we wanted for our Alps Christmas---- but our...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
According to the real estate register of Engelberg the present building was errected in 1780 and in 1875 it was turned into a restaurant. After several restaurations and extensions the Alpenclub changed from a restaurant with just 6 tables to its present form. To keep a piece of past, grown landlord's tradition, to maintain mountain inn atmosphere and warmth is our goal. We want to preserve the cosy hospitality in the rooms of the Alpenclub, while the added hotel part, in the rustical style, emits a casual sporty ambiance. The alpine character of our house you will experience in our rooms and suites as well. We took great care in redecorating the 8 rooms to make your stay unforgettable. You have the choice between four categories: Standard rooms, Steinberg room, Titlis suite and the Rotegg room. ... more   less
