Detailed Reviews
This was a lovely break away in Geneva and our choice of this hotel helped make it a very enjoyable stay. Definitely 4-star, but I wouldn’t call it luxury.
The Staff are extremely helpful and the hotel is kept clean and tidy. Reception, Restaurant and Bar are beautifully decorated, comfy and relaxing to sit in. Our room was in what I guess to be an additional part or an extension, and the stairway up was in need of a new carpet. We were in room 920 which did have everything we needed - bathroom was small but we didn’t need larger facilities, however some customers may feel like a bit more room to manoeuvre would be nice. A generous supply of toiletries was replaced as required. Additionally, there was a small kitchen area with a sink, microwave, tea & coffee facilities and a fridge. The bed was clean and we had good night’s rest. However, I felt like the décor let it down. The bathroom sink wasn’t in good condition and the drain looked like it needed a good bleaching.
We found out on arrival that the gym was being renovated but they offered an alternative at their sister hotel just 1 minutes’ walk on same side of the street, so that worked perfectly.
The location is central and a short from many places and a nice walk from others, but if you don’t like to walk the tram stops literally right outside. Also on the same street there are a variety of café’s, restaurants and bars, as well as a CO-OP and Lidl which sell pretty much all you would expect in a supermarket, very handy.
I would definitely come back to stay in this hotel if I visited Geneva again. Any of the negative points are my thoughts and nothing that would make my stay a bad one. Just points that I felt could be made.

Very good Hotel in a convenient and central location, easy walking distance from the main railway station and a short walk to the lake.
The area felt safe and is well-served with restaurants and bars which are popular with locals although expensive as well as a Co-op store almost opposite and a Lidl within a minute's walk.
Traditional and elegant decor internally and good facilities.
Breakfast was very much appreciated and there were plenty of tables available and comprehensive choices including hot and cold savoury dishes, fruit, toast and cakes.
Highly professional and friendly, helpful staff in all areas including reservations, reception, bar, breakfast restaurant and housekeeping.
Bedrooms are not huge but adequate and have a form of AC (but the temperature is not adjustable in each room so ours was always very warm which was not ideal for sleeping) but the room was very clean and well equipped and the bed was comfortable.
If we return to Geneva, we would certainly look at this hotel again although there were many other good hotels to choose from.

We had a lovely stay at this hotel for a week whilst holidaying in Geneva. This went right from the check-in arrival up to the moment we left. We can't understand the bad reviews on here as this was not our experience at all.
Firstly, every member of staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. We had an issue with the safe in our room on the first day and the reception immediately sent someone up to resolve it. As it needed fixing, they offered us a safe at reception and by the next day had already replaced the safe in our room.
The maid came every day - she left plenty of fresh towels, toiletries etc and made the beds up. We didn't want for anything.
One night we ate in the hotel and the food was exquisite. As a hotel resident you are entitled to a 15% discount, too.
Most nights we had a drink at the hotel bar - the lady who tends the bar is lovely, we had some nice conversations with her and she makes some excellent pina coladas! The communal areas are pleasant and relaxed.
The hotel is a 5min walk from the main train station, if that, and there's plenty of choices of bars and restaurants all around the area. Your free travel pass also means you can hop on the tram right outside. We enjoyed spending time in the old town on some evenings.
If we were coming back to Geneva we would definitely stay here again as we have zero complaints about it. We have nothing but praise for the hotel and the staff so thank you for making our stay so enjoyable.

We decided to book a two-night stay over the Easter weekend (Friday to Sunday) after reading very good reviews regarding the hotel. As we have an electric car one of the deciding factors whether to choose this hotel or not was a possibility to charge it on site, so before booking we called the hotel and asked if it would be possible to plug our car in. The person on the phone confirmed that, although they don't have a dedicated charger, we can plug it in the regular socket and it won't be a problem. Additionally (having in mind that it's an Easter weekend), we also contacted the hotel on Tuesday before our trip to ask if we have to book the hotel restaurant in advance but were told that there's no need and we can do it upon arrival. So after a long travel we finally arrived to the hotel and were told by the receptionist that charging our car is impossible and the hotel restaurant is fully booked on both nights of our stay. With all the other restaurants closed due to corona, we weren't given any alternative option. Only after settling in the room (which was tidy but the wardrobe smelled of stale sweat which we reported) and pressing the reception further, we were advised that we can have dinner in their sister hotel nearby and they finally booked a table for us. Later in the evening we realised that there was a room service available when we saw the hotel personnel bringing trays of food to other rooms (there was no information or menus in our room and reception didn't mention it either). Regarding breakfast the next day, there was a standard cold buffet (which is fine but a bit steep for what was offered), however, again there was no information on the tables that there was a possibility to order some scrambled eggs/bacon, etc. until we saw it on a couple of other guests' plates. After the breakfast we took our car out and went on a day trip, and when we came back we were told that now also the car park is full so we have to park somewhere else. Luckily we managed to find a much cheaper parking with a free charger 200m away from the hotel but none of the staff mentioned/suggested it to us beforehand (the hotel parking is 45 chf per night so pretty expensive and if we didn't pay attention they would have charged us for both nights even though there was no space for us on the second night). Overall, we are very disappointed with the way our stay was handled and felt that the staff was disorganised and didn't really care - there was no solutions provided unless we complained or insisted on another option and when we politely explained the issues, the receptionist didn't even bother to apologise just brushed it under the carpet . The hotel had some Easter deal going on (which our booking wasn't part of) and probably ended up being fully booked with nobody actually thinking how to accommodate all the guests including the restaurant or parking (we couldn't reserve it in advance either). If a hotel cannot organise themselves during the pandemic they should not be operating or should limit the number of rooms available.

After an overnight at the hotel I forgot my Dior cosmetic purse in the room. The same day after couple of hours when I arrived to my next destination I called them to claim my missing purse but they informed me that nobody found anything in the room after my departure . I was in hospitality industry 23 years and I know after the check out only housekeeping department has access to the rooms. The only way of disappearing forgotten items is to be taken by housekeeping staff. When I mentioned that to the reception they promised that they will take an action on my issue and the manager will call me back to inform me accordingly. I'm posting the whole incidence because till now after 24hours nobody tried to reach me and I feel like they want to avoid compensating my inconvenience.
By the way i don't understand why Royal is considered as one of the best 4 stars. Besides the Bistro restaurant who I really enjoyed the service and the quality of the food all others were in average level . Room with 3* amenities, empty mini bar and poor breakfast with unhappy staff.

Please understand, I have been traveling back and forth to Geneva for 25 years. I have seen hotels come and go. This used to be my favorite hotel, I even stayed for 3 months at a time on a few occasions. The service, food, cleanliness were at the top. The price was also high, but worth it.
Recently, I stayed here in April, then July 2023. In April, I thought maybe they were just having a bad time. Horrible smell in the room, a combo of stale cigarette smoke and must/mold, it never went away. Poor a/c, but it wasn't terribly hot outside yet. Dirty bathrooms, poor maid service that was often delayed and often forgot things, and the food was horrible in the breakfast room and the supposed "Michelin Star" restaurant. Granted, it used to be a favorite restaurant in 2016, now, whoa, eat on the street anywhere for better food...and ask yourself why the restaurant remains empty.
In July, oh wow. My worst fears confirmed. Hotel was really dirty. Carpets need replaced, they are beyond cleanable. Stale cigarette smell very strong. Air conditioning didn't work at all. I asked them to come fix it 3x, they never showed up for 2 of them but told me they did (I was there waiting all day). 3rd time, showed up and said can't fix it, seems to be an issue across the entire hotel.
Maid, never left more water, didn't replace empty tissues, never once showed up for turn down service (this used to be a nice feature of this hotel, with a little chocolate...all gone). Only hotel chain I've been in around the world that won't let you use an iron in your room, you must take your clothes to an ironing room and hang out with other guests to iron your clothes.
Food, ugh. Breakfast was cold (early in the morning), all coffees are on pod system (the nespresso machine in room is caked with old water scale calcium build up).
What hurts me the most is the need to leave this review. About what used to be one of my favorite hotels, now at the bottom of the list. And it is not only the Royal, I stayed in a sister hotel N'Vy last week and it was even worse, but perhaps a little cleaner. Now, I know why the restaurants are empty, the front doors are left wide open and rankings are dropping on TA and other online sites. I will never stay in a Manotel chain again, never again at the Royal and I only hope that my honest review, from a past fan favorite will motivate them to listen, renovate and reclaim their sparkle at the top. Or, whoever assigns star ranking to hotels, needs to take this down from a 4 star to a 1 star quickly. Sincerely...

I have stayed at this Hotel 3 times over a few years, and I thought I would continue to do so as I fly to Geneva 1-2 times a year. So good business for them, but, the last stay was terrible due to the staff trying to deal with a very small issue.
They cant cope with the smallest of things, so unless everything is perfect you won't realize this. I had a Jnr suite and was out the full day with my family, when I came back at 5pm the room wasn't cleaned. When challenged as to why the staff said I can't answer this and we have 200 rooms, surely they have the same number of rooms every day, but anyway they couldn't answer and said tough.
The hotel isn't cheap and you would expect your room to be cleaned before 5pm, but they didn't care. they said you can stand outside the room while we do it or you can sit and watch us do it.
No thought process that we are tired and cold from being out all day in Geneva in December, no common sense to realize that it's covid and having staff inside our room is crazy and illogical. A simple, please can we offer you to go to the lounge/bar area and relax while we take care of this, would have been a very nice solution. Bottom line the hotel is good until you have a problem, shame really as I thought I would use this hotel for every trip, now ill go across the street same location to the Warick and give by business there, also the staff member Ms. Carla, apparently told me she would handle the complaint and come back to me, she did not and when leaving the Hotel the supervisor was also useless!!

I booked at this property's other hotel located just down the street, but due to Covid, it was closed, so they moved us to this hotel. It's ideally located in the heart of the city, within an easy walk of the train station and the lake. There are also many good places to eat in the immediate area. The front desk staff were helpful and pleasant, and my room was very comfortable, providing a restful night's sleep. On my last night, I went to the restaurant to order some takeaway food for my Boss' private jet. We often place orders with the hotel as airport catering is very expensive, and quite often you get better food from the hotel. I took my own takeaway containers to the restaurant and after waiting a few minutes, was met by a staff member named Quintin. I told him of my intentions and he responded in an extremely rude and disrespectful manner. He wasn't even willing to discuss the matter, and walked away. I proceeded to the front desk to speak to the Manager. One of the front desk staff went to the restaurant to find out what the problem was, and came back a few minutes later with Quintin. He again spoke to me in a aggressive, rude and disrespectful tone. I of course gave him a well deserved piece of my mind and explained to him that he has no right to speak to anyone like that, much less a guest of the hotel. He didn't seem to care, made no apology for his behavior and walked away. It's a shame that this one employee ruined my entire stay and made sure that I'd never return to that hotel. I sincerely hope the hotel management reads this and takes action against this person. He does not belong in any line of work where he has to deal with people.

I arrived at the hotel late night and the parking of the hotel was fully booked. The receptionist said that he will write a note, so that they reserve a parking lot for me for the next day.
I also had issues with the lock on the door of my room. The key card couldn't open the door. Another receptionist tried to fix the door, but couldn't and said that a technician will be fix it the next day. The next day, during the afternoon, I went to the reception and asked about parking lot and if the door had been fixed. Unfortunately no one seemed to be aware of my issues, so that the parking lot was again fully booked and a third receptionist came to my room to try to fix the door. Finally he gave up and confirmed that a technician will be organized. Once I was ready to leave the hotel on that day, I quickly wanted to confirm, that all is going to be fine when I'll return, but was confronted with another receptionist that had no idea. Fortunately the third receptionist came around the corner and confirmed that a technician had already been called. And indeed, when I returned that day, the door had been fixed.
Still, it felt as if there is a lack of organization and collaboration amongst the reception staff and I shouldn't be the one to follow up and ask if basic services were fulfilled. Also, no rebate, upgrade or other freebie was given for the inconvenience.
The room was not very clean (I found a cherry pit and a used sugar packet on the floor). Also, on one of the days, I left at 10 AM indicating "please make up room" and when I came back at 3 PM, the cleaner was just cleaning the room. Again an inconvenience that I suspect is due to lack of organization and potentially lack of service attitude.
The hotel is centrally located and there is a tram station in front, which is convenient. Breakfast was small, but good.

I would like to try to give some improvement suggestions to the hotel management.
The Hotel doesn't matter that it was renovated is visible old, rooms looks nice, but the bathrooms belongs to different ages, as well the public areas.During my whole stay I could not rest from the sound of the constant passing trains, because how it looks like the windows was not changed since the hotel exist. For a hotel situated almost on the train station should be clear that they need soundproof windows.
Reception try to be nice but still couldn't make me some good impression, because first at all I try to reserve straight away by them throw the phone but how the receptionist told me she can't give answers on my question for the room rate and I need to write an email. (Spontan visit calling from the car)
The biggest disappointment was the breakfast buffet and the service, the one lady what was there was let it alone with somebody totally new so she was absolutely uncapble to take care for anything. About the food on the breakfast buffet I can just say go and buy you something from Coop or Lidl it will taste better, don't even try to drink the coffee from the buffet, believe me :( on my opinion breakfast buffet like that cannot be served in hotel pretending for four stars.
Don't get me wrong hotel is not dirty or something like that. But me personally I stay disappointed and regret for choosing to stay at Royal Manotel Geneva
Response from Roberta Panfilio, Guest Services / Front Office at Hotel Royal
Responded Dec 17, 2020
Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. While we wish you had a better experience, it is feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short. We have followed up the points mentioned in your review. Please accept my sincere apologies for the inconvenience we may have caused. As the trains will continue to pass at 4 am, we are working on the rooms that need a better isolation from external noise. Our location near the train station is as much strength as it is a weakness. On the other hand, in case you decide to visit us in the future we will be willing to find a quieter room for you. Please note that our hotel are regularly subject to renovation and other works. Our guests’ comments and yours in particular, are taken into consideration to fine tune or modify the works in order to ensure optimal customer satisfaction. Concerning the breakfast, due to this particular sanitary condition, we decided to reduce the buffet and consequently the price. If you give us a chance to earn back your trust, we can assure you that we will do our best to give you the great hotel experience that so many of our guests have grown so fond of. Kind Regards, Roberta P. Guest Services Manager

Hi we didn't fly, we took the train from Lyon, France. Regards.
It is not in red light district. It is safe for families. I do not even know where the red led district is.
Dear Guest,
We thank you for your message.
We well have air conditiong in the rooms, but at the beginning of the spring it is not active as the temperatures in Geneva are not so high.
Unfortunately we had a week with an unexpected increase in temperatures.
Kind Regards,
Roberta P.
