I’ve been coming to this hotel on a regular basis since it was the Noga Hilton in 19888! ! Although I fully appreciate the difficulties of running a hotel during the pandemic, I would simply say if you are going to open at your usual price per room you should really open! The hotel has practically no more room service , its main meat restaurant has not opened, bar not open on weekdays, reduced menus in the lobby bar and restaurant, no concierge services, and generally all the skeleton (extremely young) staff are stretched and ‘doing their best’ we are told. We were so looking forward to this break away after the confinement but we have been dissappointed and we definitely feel cheated as none of this was made known to us on booking or checking in. Never again.

The Fairmont Hotel, formerly the Kempinski, is one of Geneva's best known. So is the hotel bar but for all the wrong reasons. An average glass of wine can cost a staggering 25 euro. And dont expect a smile to accompany it. The louche clientele is equally as transactional. Sitting there amongst balding businessmen, the furtive glances and absurdly botoxed lips can be unnerving to say the least. But the real coup de grâce comes when you are presented with your bill. The surly waitress had added 200 CHF to our bill for a bottle of chartreuse we did not order. I am absolutely convinced they had done this thinking we wouldn't notice. Another member of our group said he had had drinks "added" to his order the day before. CHECK YOUR ORDER BEFORE YOU PAY. There are games afoot and if you're drinking in there they assume you wont look twice at your receipt.

I expected a much better service. We were traveling around Switzerland and France with our friends and everything was perfect besides our super disappointing stay at Fairmont Grand Hotel where we planned to celebrate the New Year. Everything from our check-in to our check-out was confusing. 1. My friends got a much poorer room while we both paid the same cost and booked the same room category (so be careful as they are selling renovated and non-renovated rooms at the same cost). Could be a no biggy but the way the staff handled the whole situation was horrible - from the lies on the phone that the rooms were the same to the receptionist coming up and seeing the rooms weren't the same to then taking my friends to see other non-renovated rooms and then saying at the end that there are actually no more better rooms available. No compliment or compensation whatsoever after that. 2. My friends booked the room via booking.com and then called the hotel to reserve the New Year dinner. I booked the room directly via the hotel website with the New Year package that already included the New Year dinner, however, I was never offered an option to reserve an actual table for the dinner. And later it turned out that my friends and myself were reserved tables in a completely different locations. Again, this could have been resolved nicely but instead it took quite a lot of back and forth to figure this out with the hotel staff. We ended up celebrating the New Year together but in a lobby that was turned into the restaurant instead of the restaurant we wanted and thought we paid for. 3. The brunch on Jan 1st (that was also included in the New Year package) was a joke and again only due to clumsy actions of the staff who couldn't figure out the bill for the extra drinks and ended up charging us for evrything including the brunch itself. And last but not least - is a COCKROACH in the room in 5 star hotel that charges $600 a night normal??? I don't think so. When I found it in a bathroom, I immediately contacted the operator and someone came to remove it quite fast. I also mentioned this at the reception and got absoltuley zero sentiment from the staff. The lady on the reception said she was sorry but that's about it. Like nobody cares about cockroaches that much at Fairmont. "Fascinating" The only good thing is the location BUT, at this price point, there are much nicer hotels right next to this one. I recommend you look for alternatives.

Third return to this hotel which I always thought highly of. After flying all night, checking into room - we discovered our room was either occupied or just a total mess. The front staff offered their apologies but they would not give us another room we had to wait...yes... wait for the room to be cleaned. We were told we were given special amenities which nothing was offered, not even a clean room. We were told it was clean we went back and very strange events happened again with people in the room. We returned to the front desk again to tell them it wasn’t clean... to be told five minutes later that it is now. We are both global travelers, anytime there’s a room issue we’re always given a better room ( except of course the experience I had in Spain ). Never expected this kind of treatment from this hotel. They should’ve offered one of us breakfast at least after making us sit there waiting, then going back-and-forth twice from the lobby - if there were any amenities they were not there for us. Horribly disappointed and shocked to see that Fairmont Hotel the new owners would find this to be satisfactory.

The location is perfect on the shore of Lake Geneva - just a shame that the red-light district is a few streets behind. The rooms are spacious with the largest bed I’ve ever seen - could have slept 4 easily! The fitness centre is impressive with the latest kit. The swimming pool is also very impressive - the largest hotel pool I’ve ever seen and kept so very clean with every extra facility you could need. Apart from a lack of hot water on the morning of our departure (lukewarm) we couldn’t fault this lovely place. A special mention here to Beatrice at reception who was very helpful and personable. A credit to the hotel.
