Well appointed hotel. Very clean, excellent, friendly staff, more than willing to make suggestions on sites to see and ways to get there. Buffet breakfast was very tasty with many choices both hot and cold. Perfect location for walking into old Basel.

Booked a one night stay prior to a river cruse. Both the cruise line and our airline cancelled our travel plans due to Covis-19. Our hotel reservation was pre-paid nin-refundable, but we were given a full refund. I can't thank them enough, and if we are able to do the planned Rhine river cruise in the future we will definitely stay at Hotel Spalentor.

This is a gem of a hotel. We had a huge corner room on the 4th floor with coffee machine and kettle. Bathrobes were provided and the water pressure was excellent. The beds were very comfortable and we had feather duvets and pillows. My travelling companion is asthmatic so didn’t get a good nights sleep with them but were changed the following day without fuss. The receptionists are so helpful and friendly and will go above and beyond for you as they are fluent in many languages. We were offered breakfast at CHF16 per person which we felt was a little high so went to a local coffee shop instead. Bear in mind that prices in Basel are particularly high anyway so it might not make much difference! This hotel is on the main road so there is always going to be road noise but it’s convenient to walk to the old town and easy from the airport. Airport bus 50 will take you to the centre, and then it’s just 3 stops on bus 50 to Spalentor. You don’t need to pay CHF40 for a taxi when it’s free travel on the bus/tram system. Overall a great hotel with lovely staff.

We enjoyed our three nights at this well appointed hotel. The location is excellent, right across from the Spalentor Gate to the Old Town. With the free bus pass, you can catch the bus three stops to the main railway station. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. Breakfast is fine. The staff are very helpful, friendly and professional.

Very comfortable and spacious room with bath, television, coffee machine, airco,... Very soft beds in which we had great sleeps! Very good breakfast, all classics were available (eggs, fruit, yoghurt, different sorts of bread, pastries, , meat, cheese, vegetables,... Some customers complained about noise coming from the street, but we didn't have that experience. We had a great stay and would come here again in case of a second visit. We recommend!

This was our second stay , our first about 7 years ago. We find the location perfect , away from the busy Old Town but only a 10 min walk (you can use the free travel card to access the trams but we preferred the walk). There are some lovely restaurants with in walking distance. We were greeted by a really charming , smiley receptionist who either recognised us from our last visit (exceptional ) or guessed well! She was brilliantly efficient. I had contacted the hotel before our trip looking for restaurant recommendations and they were always so prompt in replying. The hotel is located in between two fairly busy roads but noise is minimal and as virtually everything shuts by 10 pm you are not disturbed. Our room was on the 4th floor, big by European standards. So the pros…. Plenty of room, superb large comfy bed, plenty of wardrobe space, tea and coffee facilities, a mini bar, hairdryer, comfy pillows (a rare thing these days ) super warm duvet, bathroom products if you needed them. The cons… feels in need of a refresh, the towels were small, the over bath shower would not stay in position, no plugs near the mirror in the room ( no good for us ladies! ) Breakfast was good and had sufficient choice , from the 5th floor dining room you can get some good views. There is a small bar, games room, small gym area on the ground floor. The hotel does accept dogs . The best thing has to be the brilliant staff , everyone we met was happy in their work, pleasant , helpful and passionate about their city. Would definitely stay again

This is our second visit to the Hotel Spalentor and we absolutely love it. The staff are the most friendly and knowledgeable. The room we have (we requested the same room as we had on our first visit and they kindly gave it to us), is spacious with a great bathroom and comfy beds. The coffee machine is excellent. We arrived very early off a river cruise and they made sure our room was ready. As people have said, the location for central Basel is excellent - only 3 stops to the main train station. We will be visiting Basel more frequently with family living in the area, and to be honest, I wouldn't ever risk staying anywhere else.

Getting to the hotel is a breeze. Take the bus number 30 from in front of the main train station (Stop C across the road) and Hotel Spalentor is three stops down across from the Spalentor Gates. You get a Basel Card when checking in that gives you unlimited public transport access throughout your stay. Having said that, didn’t really use public transport much as Basel is a walking city. Location of hotel is great with lots of restaurants and close proximity to the old town. Check in was painless and room was large by European standards. Breakfast was served on the 5th floor (top floor) of the hotel. Relatively basic breakfast but gave you an incredible view of the Spalentor.

Stayed for a couple days before heading into France. Very friendly staff and an overall great place. Very clean rooms and the bed was probably the comfortable one Ive experienced in my travels. The location is great for walking into Old Town and bus/tram stops are right outside. Definitely recommend this hotel for anyone headed to Basel.
