The Hotel Euler was built in 1867 by Abraham Euler and is one of the earliest tributes to high-end hospitality in Europe. Since 1981 it has belonged to the Manz Family. This elegant four stars superior hotel was completely refurbished in May 2008 in a modern style, still keeping the traditional elegance of a grand hotel. It has 66 rooms, 6 of which are junior suites. All rooms offer the highest in comfort and modern technology and combine modernity with tradition and design. The Euler restaurant and bars combine seasonal specialities with classic traditional dishes and cater to all needs, from a hearty breakfast to a fast business lunch to a cosy candle light dinner. In the summer time the Euler Terrace is one of Basel’s main meeting points, for a quick coffee or an aperitif. A Starbucks coffee shop on premises completes the food and beverage offer.

The Grand Hotel Euler is in such a great location for arriving at the train station and for access to the tram system that runs through the city of Basel. We were made very welcome at the reception and offered a free Basel transport card for our stay which was very useful. All of the staff we spoke with during our stay were really friendly. there were 5 of us staying in 3 rooms and all of our rooms were really clean and stocked with bottled water and a tea/coffee making machine. I asked for an extra pillow and they immediately made sure each of us in our party was given an extra. We had a drink and snacks at the bar a couple of times and the man on the bar ( Giovanni) was super nice and the service was great. The rooms were all super clean and the bathrooms a good size with heated towel rails.

We stayed here as a stop over on our way home from Italy, what a relief to see the hotel from the entrance of the station. The check in was very efficient and the room was very nice. The bed was very comfortable and the tv had British television, there was good wi fi and an espresso machine. We didn't have breakfast as it seemed expensive, but we were able to leave our bags while we had a look around before we caught our next train.

We had a very good stay at Hotel Euler from 25/28th August Only negative was the person (male didn't get his name) on reception that evening (not Cedric) was really not very welcoming at all ,smirking and shrugging and not explaining anything at all which was off putting . They did sort out the issue with the room type and eventually when all was done he then asked for payment which was already made at time of booking ,just a little thing to note because the whole introduction to the Hotel is via Front Desk staff who were from then on all absolutely brilliant and very helpful. No more negatives!! Great Hotel ,nice rooms ,lovely Lobby area and literally on the front steps is the Tram Station and 2 minutes away is the Train station ...Great location! Rooms -we had 2 twin rooms ,quite different sizes & specs both very clean ! 105 -Huge with high ceiling and had a big bathroom with bath as well as shower ,complimentary slippers but no robes . 2 lounging chairs .Comfy mattresses and nice linen . Coffee pod machine L'or brand which was nice .Outlook was roadside ,2 sets of french doors and guard rail . A/C .Free Safe Room 315 - Right at the end of the corridor ,outlook onto tram station . Shower (head didn't work but wand did so no drama!) and separate toilet in a very small space with door . Small room but perfectly useable. Slippers and dressing gowns . Coffee pod maker L'or brand nice coffee. Pillows and linen all nice quality. Good book on the history of hotel in there too . Towels changed daily and beds made up . Free safe Small fitness suite which my 17 year old made good use of ,spotlessly clean too . Here and there you can see some signs of wear and tear but not many considering the buildings age . Would return in a heartbeat Lobby - really lovely grand lobby ,complimentary water, orange juice ,sweets and fruit which i thought was a lovely touch . Calm space to sit and relax on busy days in between travelling and sightseeing . Wherever I travel i'm always a bit reticent to recommend hotels , villas etc ...as everyone has different tastes and expextations but I would not hesitate to recommend Hotel Euler to anyone going to Basel .

The hotel clearly has a very respectable past. There is a gallery in the reception with lots of famous names who have stayed here (in the 50’s). You can see from the building and stairs and ceilings and general decor that it’s from another era. I love the charm of it. The room we get is really a suite, with anteroom, lounge, bedroom and bathroom, and even a balcony with table and chairs. The bathroom is newly tiled and clean, bed is ample but rather soft. Coffee machine with supplies, fridge, lots of electric sockets. Robes (no slippers). The sad side is that the room isn’t properly serviced. No extra roll of toilet paper, no shower gel or shampoo- but conditioner and lotion - no extra pillows and the air conditioner only works in the lounge part. Coffee cups don’t fit onto the provided saucers. The room is full of level changes like a little sharp edged step into the room and into the bathroom, which doesn’t improve my mood as I keep tripping. It’s quiet and we slept well. There is a gym, it has a treadmill, bike, step machine and Swiss ball, plus a multi gym but no free weights. Breakfast was ample if a bit hit and miss, coffee machine very slow, jam missing from the selection one day, juice and water not really cold. But there was hot stuff, eggs, cold cuts, cheeses, yogurts and cereals bread and a selection of doughnuts and you could enjoy it outside if you don’t mind the trams and traffic passing by, the Hotel is well situated next to the station.

Hotel is decent, but decor in the rooms a bit dated. Sad to see the change in this hotel which used to be one of Basel’s best 5 * hotels. But it is still OK. Service however can be problematic. Could not get anyone in room service on the phone for a while. Could not get ice through room service and was directed too bar which was too busy to deliver to room but I could go and pick up. Bathroom was small. Breakfast was very nice! Beds are comfortable. Air conditioning is minimal.

Had a 3 night stay here and it was lovely. The staff were all wonderful and helpful. Breakfast was the usual continental to suit all tastes. The hotel is an older one so don't expect perfection , if you want that go to a Radisson. It's age is a selling point. My only downside was the floodlights shining in making it difficult to sleep , hence 4 and not 5. Would I go again ? Yes , but not in room 110.

Dear Dave Christopher, Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for sharing your lovely feedback. We are delighted to hear that you found our staff to be wonderful and helpful, and that you enjoyed our breakfast. As you rightly mentioned, our hotel has a rich history and charm as an older establishment, which we believe adds to its unique appeal. While we strive for excellence, we understand that the age of the building may present certain limitations. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the floodlights shining into your room, and we appreciate your understanding in this matter. We value your loyalty and are glad to hear that you would choose to stay with us again. We kindly note your preference to avoid room 110 in the future. When you plan your next visit, please let us know, and we will ensure to assign you a room that meets your expectations and ensures a peaceful night's sleep. Thank you once again for your feedback, and we look forward to welcoming you back to our hotel. Warm regards, Carmelo Barba Front Office Manager

I would love to give this hotel a higher rating particularly because of the friendly, nice and helpful receptionists, but there were just too many issues that night which made my stay not particularly restful. When I checked in late in the evening, it started with payment by card not working - luckily I had enough cash on me. When I got to my single room, the room safe was locked. This bothered me, as I like to use the room safe (particularly during breakfast), and it felt also awkward as I didn't know whether it might still contain belongings of a previous guest, so I asked reception to please open it. A very friendly receptionist did her best trying to open it, twice - first she appeared with a key, then with some electronic device, but both didn't work with that particular safe and she said that probably only a technician (not available at this late time) could open it. So I asked for a different room, which I got immediately - in that room, the electronic room safe was open, but it didn't work! I didn't want to change the room again, so I told reception that I'm going to live with that. A bit later I noticed that the remote control for the TV was missing, but I didn't intend to watch TV anyway... On top of all that, the defective room safe started to make annoying bleeping noises all night through. Though my sleep was quite disturbed by this, I just didn't feel like complaining to reception again (also, when I called them to report the missing TV remote - I said that I don't need one, just wanted to report it -, they first thought I was in a different hotel, as the reception manages several hotels in this location). But in the morning, when checking out, I mentioned it and showed a video of the bleeping safe to the receptionist, and I not only got a sincere apology, but also a partial refund. So, I can say that I do not have a particularly good experience with the hotel as a whole, but I appreciate the efforts of the receptionists and am even willing to give this hotel another try, as I think it has potential and could be a good classic hotel with a bit more attention to maintenance and infrastructure of the rooms.

This hotel has seen better times. The rooms have very high ceilings but small rooms, the carpets, window treatments, and linens are worn and outdated. Our shower doors did not open properly and the shower head leaked. When we arrived, the reception staffed seemed very overwhelmed because our reservation was for four rooms. Although polite, they seemed very confused and registration took very long. On the bright side, this hotel has a great location, right next to the train station and to the tram hub. Therefore, it is very easy to move throughout the city on public transport. In addition, I want to recognize Danielle (spelling?), who manages breakfast, for her outstanding service and sunny attitude. I also want to recognize Macu, at the front desk, for her professionalism and welcoming personality.

Amazing food, one of the best cuisine I tried in Swiss. Friendly helpful staff and great service. Congratulations for the kitchen and especially for the chef Jovan. Hackbraten with potatoes purée and mushroom sauce was so delicious. Fantastic food experience. Recommendation for this hotel and their excellent cuisine. You have to try something from their menu.

We chose the hotel for proximity to SBB as we were taking morning train direct to Zurich airport for return to U.S. It was very hot and humid, and…the A/C did not work. They graciously and promptly moved us to another (upgraded) room. We were away from the street and slept beautifully for 2 nights in cool comfort. The restaurant is a little expensive, but a huge MIGROS is close by in the Bahnhofstrasse, with anything you might want to eat. A plus, the Markthalle, which is like a giant food court, is only 2 blocks around the corner. We were more than satisfied.
