The Hotel Euler was built in 1867 by Abraham Euler and is one of the earliest tributes to high-end hospitality in Europe. Since 1981 it has belonged to the Manz Family. This elegant four stars superior hotel was completely refurbished in May 2008 in a modern style, still keeping the traditional elegance of a grand hotel. It has 66 rooms, 6 of which are junior suites. All rooms offer the highest in comfort and modern technology and combine modernity with tradition and design. The Euler restaurant and bars combine seasonal specialities with classic traditional dishes and cater to all needs, from a hearty breakfast to a fast business lunch to a cosy candle light dinner. In the summer time the Euler Terrace is one of Basel’s main meeting points, for a quick coffee or an aperitif. A Starbucks coffee shop on premises completes the food and beverage offer.

We chose the hotel for proximity to SBB as we were taking morning train direct to Zurich airport for return to U.S. It was very hot and humid, and…the A/C did not work. They graciously and promptly moved us to another (upgraded) room. We were away from the street and slept beautifully for 2 nights in cool comfort. The restaurant is a little expensive, but a huge MIGROS is close by in the Bahnhofstrasse, with anything you might want to eat. A plus, the Markthalle, which is like a giant food court, is only 2 blocks around the corner. We were more than satisfied.

We booked a room with breakfast the next morning we seated ourselves outdoors as per the latest covid directives of the federal government (inside seating only possible with covid Certificate), when in the middle of our breakfast the waitress came over to ask us for our certificate. When we said that we didn't have one, she started making a scene shouting out loud, expressing shock that we weren't vaccinated, for everyone inside and out to hear and look at us. And she demanded we leave immediately. Embarrassed we had to leave our breakfast, plate still full, and leave. No discussion was possible ,no manager around, we were kicked out by some uninformed rude staff. This really added insult to injury, after staying in a crummy room that isn't the quality of IBIS, with nothing in the fridge, no Coffe creamer (although they brought some later) and a sleepless night (very noisy with tramways and busy street,) at a cost of USD 300 plus USD 35 for parking (train station parking). The hotel has only limited parking. It was a disgraceful experience we would very much not have repeat, as we truly felt very bad.

I wrote to hotel three weeks before my arrival to demand the room on the quiet area (like recommended) but I got the room at the noisy tram street on frost floor. If you are light sleeper be sure that you repeat your request several times… very much disappointed

Unfortunately, we were not able to stay due to airline and cruise cancellations. They refunded the money to the credit card promptly. I will stay with them when we do get to visit. We were looking forward to our stay in Basel but will have to wait. Be Safe.
