We were not disappointed by our selection of Castello di Monterone for our 3 day stay in Umbria. All accommodations are in modernised castle rooms. We were in Gastaldo - one of the Superior rooms with views out onto the Umbrian countryside. Absolutely beautiful. The restaurant at the Castello is excellent - see separate review. The Castle grounds and gardens are superbly maintained and clean. There is a swimming pool, but we did not get around to making use of this during this short stay. A good buffet breakfast is available. WiFi is OK and there was plenty of open air parking available at the time of our visit. Great base for those planning to visit Perugia and the local Umbrian attractions.

Castello Monterone is one of the best run hotels I have stayed in. Each room is unique and furnished to a high standard in keeping with the age and style of the hotel. The staff were efficient, friendly and very helpful. On asking where the bar was we were told "wherever you want it to be" meaning they would bring us our drinks wherever we wanted to sit, inside or in the grounds (what a lovely answer). The gardens are well maintained. The restaurant is outstanding both for dinner and for breakfast. There are lovely views over to Perugia. We did not want to leave. The hotel offers great value for money.

We loved our stay from start to finish. The staff were amazing and welcoming, especially Claudia, who even helped us figure out how to reverse our manual rental car. It was a magical experience staying in this unique historic building. The room was very comfortable and the common areas were interesting. We enjoyed a dip in the pool, the lovely gardens, and the steam room. The restaurant was incredible, both in terms of breakfast as well as an unforgettable dinner we had with a lovely Sagrantino. I would highly recommend staying here if you want a convenient and peaceful visit to Perugia and the Umbria region.

This was an absolute dream staying here. There’s not one area that doesn’t deserve 5 stars. It is just far enough out of the town but close enough too. The staff was PHENOMENAL to say the least, from the moment we checked in. They made us feel so so welcomed and personalized. We stayed in Chiavi suite which I highly recommend. The view is unbeatable. EAT at the restaurant Grandale. That staff to outstanding and the food mouthwatering. We walked around the castle and sat up at the top enjoying the view. Breakfast was included and was better than expected. Everything was kept immaculately clean but kept the castle feel. I recommend sitting by the fire in the evening and having a drink. Also do rent a car to make your stay more accessible. I’m honestly not sure how we would’ve have done it without a car. Pictures do not do this amazing place justice.

Wife and I spent 3 days here during a Viking Umbria cruise extension. The rooms grounds and facilities are immaculate and the service is first class. The building has been restored but the facilities are modern and very comfortable. The view of the surrounding hill top towns from the terraces and balconies are fantastic. Highly recommend!!
