I stumbled upon this on here and I was a bit skeptical. The gentleman in the front desk was very nice and he told me he placed me in a separate area because there were a whole bunch of school students living in the main area. Thank God! I think there was some sort of competition in the main square on Saturday and I'm glad I was at a quiet place. Very simple room with 2 twin beds put together. Great for one or two nights.

The room and bathroom were a decent size for Italy. The service was friendly as well. The breakfast was nothing too fancy but fine to start the day. I liked the location tucked away a few blocks from all the action. This may be good or bad for you depending on whether you need quiet at night or depending on your mobility. It's maybe a 10 minute walk to the Basilica of Saint Francis.

This is an old fashioned hotel, with everything remained in the seventies. Furniture, smell and ambience all come from that era. Anyway a day here if nothing else is available is not bad. People is friendly and kind. Beds in the end are not bad. The hotel is clean. In Assisi, you stay all day out if it is a sunny day. So, better to save some money to spend outside.

This hotel is on a quiet street in the part of Assisi near the Basilica of St. Francis. It is in two separate buildings, one down the street from the other. I stayed in the smaller building in a room that was small, but bright and clean with a nice bath. The breakfast at the main building was very nice with a good selection. The personnel were very helpful. There was no elevator in the building that I stayed in, but I only had a carry-on. The prices were very low for Assisi, a real value. I would definitely return.

This was our second location on the school tour. We all loved Assisi very much and the Hotel was quite charming and overall our experience was good. As all our accomodation was pre booked and part of a group booking ( around 30 people) I do not know how much any of our individual hotels cost so cannot say if they were good value. The staff could be quite friendly and helpful (depending on who was there on the day). I shared a room again & it was clean, the shower worked ( quite small however) and the bed was comfortable. The breakfasts were good, fruit, croissants, yogurt, 2 cereals & drinks. We all found the milk in Italy unpleasant but I think it was maybe long life carton type of milk. We ate in the hotel restaurant ( again pre booked & pre paid) & the food was adequate - better than the first restaurant however! Again not many vegetables or salads provided & very standard italian fare. For some reason the staff would serve the meal components to everyone separately - so the protein first & then the next thing etc... So the first item would be getting cold - a very strange system! So far Italy was falling very short of our food expectations and terrible if you are a vegetarian... So much for the famed Mediterranean diet!

Previous reviews bore no resemblance to my experience last week. No welcome, harassed staff....if you could find anyone .....particularly later in the evening when it was like the Marie Celeste. My shared room was basic, had a fridge that didnt work and when I looked at the plug, just wires ,I got a nasty shock from touching it and fused one of the plugs. The manager didnt seem very concerned when I told him. The bathroom was spacious but the shower doors were so flimsy they were in danger of falling off.Very slippy with nothing to hold on to....luckily we had no accidents. The food was dire. Breakfast had stale bread and croissants, hard peaches and kiwi fruit, machines that dispensed an inch of coffee in a cup, no fruit juice. The arrangement to help yourself was such that everyone got under everyone elses feet once there were more than 5 people trying to get stuff. Dinner was worse... the wait between courses was lengthy ...some of the food was okay, some was inedible. No one seemed concerned if a plate was sent back hardly touched. The staff who served seemed very inexperienced, so what you got was haphazard eg when being served salad I got a pile of tomatoes but my companion got none , just lettuce. I was travelling with a group, we had paid enough for decent accommodation and felt we did not get value for money. Notwithstanding, Assisi itself is beautiful !

Nice hotel, very clean and well organized. Very good breakfast. No Wi Fi in room, available in reception. We were put on the top floor in a big room with 5 beds and a nice bathroom but no real window. The reason was that there was a very big group of Italian tour and they were quite noisy, this was to give us some peace and quiet ! And it did! However, as I had booked weeks in advance was a bit disappointed not to have a window. Good value for money.

I first stayed at this hotel around 2004 with a group of friends when we enjoyed a wonderful week's holiday. The hotel then boasted a chapel, a garden room and a terrace and was convenient for everything we wished to do, and the food was excellent. The room which I shared then had wonderful views over the plain and was perfect. On the basis of that experience I booked a short break for my daughter and myself but my experience of the hotel could not have been more different. I had booked a triple room for 4 nights ( I had expected my sister to accompany us) but shortly after our arrival from Bologna (exhausted) an angry manageress brandished a paper in front of my face to say we were not due until the following day. I showed her the confirmatory email which proved her wrong. She backed down but did not apologise. She said she would compensate by giving us 2 air conditioned rooms and not charge extra for them. We agreed and she marched us down to the lower end of the building which had a separate entrance and no view. Initially we were just relieved as the rooms appeared ok. However we both found the rooms suffocatingly hot as the A/C was useless. My shower room was miniscule and worst of all the springs in the mattress were sticking out. It was a most uncomfortable stay. We were not given any information about the hotel eg if there was a bar or if the roof terrace still existed. The former chapel was now a breakfast room and the breakfast was poor. By the third day the single pear and peach which remained in the basket were both rotten, the bananas had disappeared and by the 4th morning there were just a few kiwis. The cereal choice was between 2 cereals and again by the 4th day there was just one cereal in evidence. We had cereal with milk that was not cold and a croissant. There were a few other basics available such as yoghurts and some bread which had been sliced earlier and was hardening. With only limited Italian I felt unable to make a verbal complaint though I did leave a note for for the Direttrice informing her that I would write in full when I got home.We did not set eyes on her again during our 4 night stay. I am very sad that this formerly charming place to stay has changed beyond recognition. Thank goodness Assisi is as wonderful as ever. I should add for the sake of fairness that the young lady receptionist who we first met was the only person who showed us any kindness. She observed that we were tired and very hot after our journey and gave us water while she summoned the manageress. I am sad that I didn't know her name and exclude her from criticism. Bring back the nuns!!!.

The rooms are small, simple clean convent rooms with small windows. The location was somewhat difficult to find because the hotel is removed from the tourist district. The breakfast was also simple compared to the bountiful buffet we were accoustomed to at Hotel La Pensione Svizzera in Taormina. Of course, it would take more than simple lodging to detract from the specialness of Assisi. During our month long vacation it Italy we kept two nights open stay in an agriturismo in Tuscany. Alexandria, the desk clerk, found a perfect place for us within a thirty minute drive of Florence. She went out of her way to provide a map and directions.

Hotel Ancajani is listed as a convent. We were warmly greeted and well treated. Our room had floor to ceiling windows with a glorious view of Umbria. Very clean, spacious enough, quiet and comfortable. We would love to return. The only dark spot was the very stressed out manager who took me to task and decided to yell at me in public for not telling him in time about my change in plans. Not withstanding a very loud public humiliation by an otherwise nice and efficient manager, it was a great place and we'd return. We did not see the sign asking guests to alert them the night before leaving to prepare the bill. We are still novice travelers and would have appreciated a bit less screaming. Also, the hotel was not on a street well known by locals, though it is very convenient to all sites, so be sure to get directions. Its near the San Pietro Parking area if you are driving. We still recommend it. Avoid the restaurant Frantoio! The worst meal in all our 3 weeks in Europe and so overpriced!! Avoid the Frantoio restaurant at all costs. Tomatoes that were hard, unripe and almost pale orange, overcooked over salted turkey hard as a rock and horrible wine.
