Travelling around Italy On my motorbike I booked a last minute in Castello di Petrata. I can only say that the place offers a astounding view over the surroundings, Assisi is barely visible but that makes it even more fascinating. The hotel itself is well maintained, friendly staff and super comfortable rooms. The bathroom in my room (110) is not... More

As we meandered up the mountain side in our tour bus with 15 people, late in the evening, we were all wondering where we were going. Upon arrival we were awestruck by the beauty of this "castle". The staff greeted us smiling and welcoming us to their "Gem in the sky". After exploring the surroundings and our rooms, we all... More

We first stayed at Castello di Petrata in Sept 2012 and fell in love with the place. So much so that we chose it to be the venue for our wedding in Sept 2013! The combination of unpretentious Umbrian charm, informality, quality and simplicity lift the experience well beyond a typical tourist hotel in Tuscany for example. Its location and... More

St. Francis preached to birds, found holiness in solitude and lived a life of simplicity. His values attracted a large following from across Europe and ultimately the world. Today, Assisi is a bustling city, filled with pilgrims and tourists and hardly a place to contemplate what it means to be "an instrument of God's peace." Benefiting from a stunning location,... We arrived rather late on Friday 4th October. The road leading up from Assisi to the Castello is an unpaved countryside one, but you can easily drive there with an ordinary car. You do not need four wheel drive or anything like that. When you arrive at the Castello, even late in the evening, you can immediately see that this... More

Agree with all previous travelers - location is heavenly. Views of Assisi and surrounding villages, hills, orchards are breathtaking. Grounds with variety of flowering bushes and fruit trees are well maintained. Old castle rooms are furnished with period pieces and have renovated bathrooms. Unfortunately, it ends right here. There seems to be complete absence of management in the hotel. The... More

Dear guest pleased to read your review , always helps us to grow and to understand that not all guests are guests for the Il Castello di Petrata . In your review there are many contradictions and nonsense . I respond point by point to its arguments : • The night the Country house is not abandoned , but there... More

We stayed at Castello di Petrata for two nights but wish we had more time. The staff is very accommodating and helpful, the establishment is very clean, the grounds are beautiful, and the view is breathtaking. We considered staying in Assisi but were so happy that we opted to stay 10 minutes out of downtown and enjoy the quiet and... More

Castello di Petrata is a charming small castle perched high on the hills of beautifl Assisi. The staff are warm and welcoming. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. The gardens are a delight to walk around, plenty of deck chairs by the pool and little nooks to hideaway and take in the breathtaking scenery. The rooms are large... More

Idyllic location in the hills above Assisi. We had a very warm welcome and gained the impression immediately that the management and staff could not do enough to make our stay comfortable and memorable. Good facilities at the hotel despite it being a converted medieval building. Exceptionally clean. Breakfast was impressive for continental standards and should even please USA visitors.... More

Castello Petrata is fantastic. We stayed there four nights and visited Assisi and trekked the surrounding countryside. Very friendly staff, who go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable. Great food -creative and healthy. They even made us and a Dutch couple special dishes (my Malaysian wife was missing rice, so they made a rice dish!) on... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Far from it all, let yourself be carried away by the silence, colours and scents of the soft Umbrian hills, where what counts is the sunset, the perfume of the earth and flowers. A true oasis of peace where Aldo and Giuseppina's family and their staff welcome guests with courtesy and kindness into the warmth of a private residence, for a holiday in harmony with art and nature. Petrata Castle, an ancient 14th century fortress and its annexed chapel, nestles in the midst of gentle hills on a quiet and sunny plain, 600 metres above sea level and only 6 km from Assisi. Its position of dominance in the surrounding countryside, allows it an wide panoramic view of Assisi and the Umbrian valley. ... more   less
