Our Tuscan holiday at La Stalla couldn't have been more perfect. The house was exactly what we were looking for: a base from which we could explore Tuscany, but one which we always looked forward to coming back to each evening - mostly to just sit out on the terrace and look at the stars. The property is set high... More

We wanted a peaceful secluded and authentic Tuscan property and Borgo Della Madonnina certainly met this criteria. Adrian and Christopher were perfect hosts who guided us through our stay in a peaceful and unobtrusive way. They advised us on the best local restaurants to visits and the best spot to go to for some time at the beach, they even... More

I came to the Borgo for a break from the heat and bustle of Naples. I wasn't disappointed! It's beautifully tucked away up in the hills, with a cooling breeze and scenic views across the forested valley below. I lost track of time entirely, lazing in the sun, reading and swimming in the lovely pool. I stayed in Il Forno,... More

I was turning 40 and when asked if I wanted a party I said no, I wanted a quiet holiday in the mountains of Tuscany. The trip we had to Tuscany and staying at Borgo della Madonnina was perfect. The stone cottage was delightful, the surroundings picture perfect, the bed comfy, and it had all that we needed for a... More

We stayed 10 nights in late June as part of our honeymoon and it was the perfect place to stay. Beautiful, peaceful location on a mountain-side yet remarkably convenient for getting about because of the station at Diecimo by the river at the end of the valley (direct Lucca, for Pisa, Florence, Viareggio etc) which saved us having to drive... We stayed for 6 nights in August 2014 and wow, what can we say? Utter perfection! Location was idyllic, accommodation was charming (as were Adrian and Christopher!) which all contributed to the best holiday we've ever had. We stayed in the beautiful small 1 bed cottage which has everything you need if you want a lazy week of doing nothing... More

We are from Germany and Switzerland and spent a wonderful week at this place. It is perfectly situated in a little pristine valley, surrounded by nature. The houses themselves are beautifully little stone cottages, with an ambiance that makes you direclty feel at home. A very considerate gesture was the welcome basket from our hosts Adrian and Christopher that let... More

We recently returned from a week in this glorious little oasis in the Tuscan hills. It is the perfect place to recharge batteries and reset life. Il Forno is small but perfectly formed - just what we were looking for. The setting is gorgeous and the surrounding scenery stunning. There are great local restaurants and also really easy travel to... More

Just come back from 10 days in this lovely Tuscan retreat. It is a little gem. Our hosts, Adrian and Christopher made us so welcome and gave us some great advice for trips and restaurants - all of which was taken up on. The scenery is stunning, the food and wine glorious, we couldn't have done better. We have been... More

We stayed here for a week in summer and thoroughly enjoyed it. Wads a different perpespective, cooler climate and forested mountains, compared to southern Tuscany. It is tucked away in the hills and feels very peaceful and remote, but is still only 20mins drive from Lucca and an even shorter trip to good restaurants in close by villages. The villas... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Borgo della Madonnina is set in over seven acres of pine and chestnut forest, with abundant olive and fruit trees and beautiful views over the valley. The small touches make a stay here special. The houses date from the mid 1700s and have many original features, including exposed stone walls and original ceilings with chestnut beams and cotto tiles. The overall feel is light and airy, with simple but thoughtful décor, pleasant furniture, pretty bedding and plenty of fresh towels. ... more   less
