This is one of the best hotels I’ve stayed in while in Italy, comfortable room well appointed and an amazing view over the sea and promenade below, the staff were very friendly & welcoming & nothing was to much to ask for a truely wonderful experience.

The room was not bad, although there duct tape holding the base board together. The view was great of the ocean. A non smoking room with a pile of cigarette butts on the window ledge. The worst part of the hotel is the roof top bar/ restaurant, we’re we spent 60 euros for four below average glasses of wine. A glass of wine is 5 euros in every restaurant in Livorno, if not cheaper. Later we saw the bottle they poured in a shop for 11 euros. It was embarrassing to be taken by such a tourist trap. We spoke to the bartender - he said he hears this complaint constantly, he told us our wine was normally 21 euros a glass, that gave us a break. Outrageous. It’s a poor hotel that takes such advantage of customers.

Just back from a week long stay and prior to arriving was a little apprehensive given some of the less than favourable reviews. On arrival we were greeted out front and our bags were taken to our room. Throughout our stay any worries we may have had were completely unfounded as the room was cleaned daily and all staff were pleasant and helpful. On our second day, the concierge (Andrea) handed us a map of the area and highlighted several places to visit which was very helpful. Although we didn’t eat in the hotel restaurant, the food served for breakfast was good and had a decent variety of meats, pastries and cereals from which to choose. Vegan options are also available. The hotel’s location on the seafront is great and you can see some lovely sunsets across the road on the Terrazza Mascagni. A bus stop is just out front which will take you to the city centre and also to Livorno Centrale, the main train station. The station has direct links to Pisa (20 mins) and Firenze (approx. one hour). A great hotel and definitely recommended.

Just back from a 4 night stay at The Grand Hotel. I was apprehensive after reading some reviews but I can assure you, this hotel is fantastic. We stayed in room 446, clean, spacious, cleaned daily with beds made and fresh towels. Continental breakfast with plenty of choice. Staff were so friendly and helpful. We arrived at 11am, check in was from 3. Porter brought our cases up to the room and showed us how to use TV, wifi etc Roof top pool is not very big but ideal for a nice relax with excellent views. The only fault I have with this hotel is the price of food and drinks. We had 1 bottle of beer and 1 glass of wine 28 euros!! Livorno itself is a lovely town. Very reasonably priced restaurants and bars for food and drink. Usually 5 euros a glass of wine and around 8-10 euros for a pizza or pasta dish. We found a great beach bar just a 5 minute walk from hotel. Pay 6 euros to spend the day there. Beach area, swimming pool, sun loungers and somewhere to buy food and drinks at a reasonable price. Overall a great stay in a beautiful country.

The hotel is as you would expect… grand. This is however reflected in the cost of its services, food, drink etc. As some have mentioned, it does need a refresh of the decor. We had a beautiful balcony on our room (232) that definitely made the difference to our experience. If you’re definitely going to stay in Livorno and can warrant the cost, it is worth a stay. I personally wouldn’t go back to Livorno, as not much to do there.

I write this as a well travelled visitor with the fortune to have stayed in many 5 star hotels around the world. Without doubt this mornings shower of a breakfast service is the worst I have ever known, not just in a 5 star hotel, but in any hotel ever! We came to breakfast at 10 am to see no food left in the serving room save for a few yoghurts and the odd piece of end of service cheese. The hotel offers breakfast until 10.30 so there can be no excuse for the lack of pastries, bread, eggs bacon, fruit, juices etc. I know this is a first world problem and we will survive it but if you claim to be a 5 star hotel, with 5 star pricing, then the deal is to provide that service. You have failed miserably today and I for one will never return. Sort it out!

Elegant hotel with very supportive staff. Some renovation is due but overall the hotel is in reasonable shape. Good breakfast - yet not true 5* but great coffee. The concierge service is good in general but the external restaurant suggestions could improve. Found my own favorites - and a lot cheaper/better than the hotels own restaurant. Easy access to public beach club across the street. Come early to get a good spot. The hotel pool is small and often very crowded. Favorite bar snack. Try the Caprese. Tip: Some really bad reviews from others. I could not recognize it. Sure - you pay fish by weight. Clearly stated in the menu. And yes. It’s not a cheap place - hence if you book a really cheap room here you end up in just that. Book midrange and hope for an upgrade 😎

Room Tip: 70 euro airport transfer from/to Pisa can be booked at hotel. Practical. But not free ;-)

The hotel is fine. The rooms are spacious but the bathroom need a refurbishment. Swimming pool is too small for people who like to swim. Food & beverage prics are to high (21 euro for 1 glass of champagne!!!) We enjoyed our stay because we travelled to other cities during our stay. So, staying in the hotel during the day is not recommended.

We had planned a stay for 6 nights at Palazzo Livorno, as we wanted to get closer to the sea, after having spent a week in the more Southern parts of Tuscany. We were looking forward to a 5-star stay, however, we were left very disappointed. I would go as far as saying that it is closer to a 3-star standard: - The room was very unclean and in general the room needed restoration. - Pool area is small and also needs restoration. Furthermore, there is little to no service at the pool. There is a restaurant, however, prices are on the border to the extreme. Staff in the restaurant are arrogant. - Breakfast is below standard with very few offers and staff does not know or practice general service etiquette. The hotel feels more like a money machine than a hotel - Livorno in general lacks a lot of vibrancy, however, even more so for this hotel. I will go as far as saying that this is the worst value for money I have experienced. Therefore, I will advise you - do not book your stay here.

We stayed at this hotel last Sunday and Monday as we needed to be close to Pisa airport for an early morning flight on Tuesday. From the outside the hotel is a very impressive building. Close up the shabbiness shows. There might be luggage trolleys but there’s no Porter , you wheel your own luggage to your room. The carpet on the corridor outside our room was stained. The room need to be painted, bad marks on the wall. The phone didn’t work. The towels were not good, they’d been washed too many times . The bathroom was dark , the shower was dirty. This is not a five star hotel. The breakfast was a shambles the next morning. We found our own table. We had to ask for the buffet to be restocked. It was a relief only to be staying for two nights. My advice , Don’t go there.
