At first sight rustic was the word, however it is full of charm. Claudio went out of his way to assist us with the bus times (hourly but run late into the evening) and when best to visit the Duomo etc as we arrived during Holy week. He provided bicycles to which my grandson and myself utilised...we had fun going along the path of the river Arno. His uncle and himself even cycled to the Ponte Vecchio bridge ! The breakfast was simply delicious, everyday we had something new to try, and there was enough to feed a dozen not just us 5. On our chill day we ambled up to the community hub where you could find a cafe bar serving coffee, beer, pastries and snacks also a cinema and television room showing sport. A few hundred yards further on was a beautifully kept Allied soldiers war memorial,we spent the rest of the afternoon sipping champagne in the villa garden alongside the river......wonderful. Be aware, they like their mattresses FIRM…
This Airbnb was suitable for us as we wanted to visit the Commonwealth War Graves which are situated just outside the village. The bus ride into Florence central takes about 45 minutes and the buses are old and noisy. The bnb is clean. We had to move rooms after 1 night as Claudio had put us in the wrong room which had a private bathroom. The second room was rather hot and noisy. The breakfasts were delicious with a variety of different choices.
Let me start by saying me and boyfriend don't usually write reviews- we're pretty laid back and friendly. The B&B itself is beautiful! The room was clean but hot and rubbish aircon. We had to share a bathroom (shower was bad) which I wasn't aware of but fine. But the host, Claudio, was rude, unapologetic and disinterested. He made us feel very unwelcome and was extremely smug and unhelpful about everything. The cleaner also yelled for us to get out the room 2 hours before check out. The location is also terrible - the bus is infrequent, late and long and crowded. The bike journey is nicer! The dog was probably the only thing the made our stay nice! The breakfast was good not great. The b&b had great potential, shame the owner is so terrible at hospitality. If you don't like strangers in your house - don't run a b&b. …
A perfect ancient setting with updated amenities just minutes away from the hectic Florentine center. Your host Claudio is a real gentleman who will see to your every need. Two beautiful and friendly dogs will greet you in the garden setting. Private and lovely in all respects.
We spent the most wonderful holiday (10 Days) in La Martellina. During the hot days in July we relaxed in the beautiful natural garden in the hammocks and the beach chairs under the trees or in the refreshing little pool. In the evening we had our drinks at the romantic terrace that has a great view at the Arno River - you can even walk down the stairs directly into the water! Every morning our wonderful host, Signore Claudio, served us a great breakfast on the garden terrace with fresh fruit, grilled and fresh vegetables, italian cheese, different kind of bread, yoghurt, marmelade and every day a new surprise like pancakes, filled tomatoes or vine leafes, polenta, crepes or other delicious things. Our room Salcio was very spacious and lovingly decorated, equipped with a modern bathroom and perfectly clean thanks to lovely Signora Giovanna. As Claudio shares his entire house with his guests, we could also enjoy the other rooms of the beautiful old mill, there's even a library with books in different languages. You love animals? Then you will fall in love with Emilio and Daisy, the cute dogs and Clive and Bonnie, the pretty cats. It was very easy to go to Florence and Fiesole by bus, so you really don't need a car. We're already dreaming about our next holiday at La Martellina!…
