If you go to Florence then you must stay here.
So close to the train station (although a little hard to find the first time around). If I ever hear a friend, collegue or family member going to Florence I recommend Il Giglio Gueshouse.
When we reach the accomodation, we are greeted by friendly host, Matteo. He is extremely warm and helpful.
The guesthouse is clean and have all the basic essentials in place.. hot shower, hair dryer etc. Place is 5min walk from train station. Certainly value for...More
The location of this Il Giglio can be described as the edge of the city, as most of the major locations are 15 to 20 mins walk, although it is very close to the train station, which is perfect for travelers with bulky luggage. However,...More

Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The
area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
