I would def. NOT recommend this hostel to anyone 25 and older. We chose to find another hostel b/c the room we were given had no window, had a single lightbulb hanging from a wire in the middle of the bedroom, dirty walls and 'unusual' stains on the bedsheets. We also were informed that we would be sharing a bathroom...

We got a double room ensuite with bathroom and shower. Room was generally decent, bedroom area was relatively spacious with a dressing table; however shower area appeared a little decrepit. Location wise, Florence is not that big an area, so still walkable to main sites. Leonardo was friendly enough. However, entrance area smelled a little musky, like pigeon poo, and...

Location is great with self-serve wash and dry as well as Internet closeby (no wifi). Simple and clean. Very institutional feel. Leonardo was able to recommend a few restaurants and circle the main sights on a map he provides but beyond that did not interact much with us (was not there most the time). Desk with two chairs in double...

We had a great time at Leonardo's house. On arrival the room was very nice, large with beautiful tiles and comfortable bed. The best part of the place is the host himself, Leonardo. He gave us a map and told what to see and in what order to go to them. We saw all of florence in a day and...

This is the second time I have stayed here and although it is not a luxury hotel, it is MORE than adequate and the location cannot be better. A few blocks from the Duomo and Boboli Gardens, the Ponte Vecchio and great restaurants. Leo is a sweetie and the rooms are clean. I would stay here again.

Leonardo House is definitely aimed at a younger clientele. We are 3 women in our mid to late 20's and it wasn't the best fit for us. Leonardo was very helpful and friendly. He was great about working around our schedule as well. We had a hard time finding the place when we arrived at the train station but once...

Well...let me start by saying that i'll never fret over the gruesome task of hostel searching in Florence ever again. The Leonardo House is AWESOME!!! I'm a 24 year old female travel addict and have seen quite the range of hostels in my day. I don't party much and like to get a good night's sleep but not pay out...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
