We just returned from a 10 day trip through Italy. We actually stayed at all 3 Casa Howard locations! (and loved each of them!) We started out in the Florence property and stayed in the Twin Room- Right. It was absolutely charming-- as was our entire experience. Virginia, who lives on-site and takes care of the hotel guests, was VERY...

We just returned from a trip to Italy during which we stayed 4 nights at Casa Howard in Florence. The facility is actually quite nice and worked for our situation. We were travelling with 4 adults and 1 child (age 12). However, if you expect to obtain much service here think again! The people running this place are not dedicated...

Be forewarned, upon entering the city by car we had an exceptionally difficult time locating the address, and then ran into problems trying to park and unload. Communicating at the entrance through the telecom was also not an easy task. However, upon entering the villa one almost completely forgets those minor troubles when bedazzled by the beauty of the building...

Very good location. Nice building, rooms; small bathrooms as other reviews correctly testify to. If you arrive by car be warned it can only be collected by nearby car park attendant between certain hours - a fact we learned only on our arrival - we had to park in the nearby Station which costs an arm and a leg, then...

I just came from a trip to Italy, and while in Florence I stayed at CASA HOWARD, which is a Guest House. The place has been completely renovated a year ago, the design is fantastic, the people as well. If you go on a trip, and do not like the big hotel scene, this is your place to be. It...

We were a party of 7 adults who had booked to stay 4 nights at Casa Howard as part of a months travelling to Europe. Having used Trip Advisor for a previous trip as well as this one we were quite disaapointed with our accommodation here. The first thing to greet us through the street door was a dreadful sewerage...

I've read the reviews of Casa Howard with interest because they are so mixed so I suppose it comes down to expectations. The key point is that Casa Howard is NOT a hotel. There are no porters, room service, concierge, communal areas or gym. There are no real 'facilities' to speak of which is worth bearing in mind if you...

We just stayed in the Casa Howard for our honeymoon and found it to be utterly fun and romantic. We don't need the service of fancy hotels (or the prices), but we found the service here to be very accommodating. The owners were out of town, but the two women working there brought our bags in, made restaurant recommendations and...

Quality, location and room were great. MUCH better than an overpriced rotten old hotel room. But you have to use it as a guest house. not a hotel, just a room :) And as everyone else said, forget the overpiced breakfast, 15euros each for a coffee, juice and croissant. Have it standing at the bar instead at any of the...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
CASA HOWARD Guest Houses – Rome and Florence The Art of Hospitality. Casa Howard Guest Houses are not hotels. Each Casa Howard is a beautiful private house, in an outstanding location whether an apartment, palazzo or farmhouse, which gives personal service, and where some typically "hotel" ideas, methods and services have been borrowed. With uniquely designed, cosy rooms it’s like staying in a very relaxed, stylish friend’s home – as guests you get the keys of the house, you enjoy the original furniture and objects, you feel the atmosphere of the house. A mix of quality-to-price ratio, uniqueness of location, private home heritage and introduced guests approach deserved Casa Howard many featuring on the international press. Last but not least, CH are now in the bestselling 1000 Places to See before You die !!• A SENSORIAL EXPERIENCE : how different is the feeling of spending some days in a real private house rather than in a public grand hotel, in the top art city of the world! LUXE: we may not define CH a luxury place, rather a true exclusive place (nonetheless we are featured on most of the luxury guidebooks in the world, like the LUXE city book of Grant Thatcher or the LOUIS VUITTON guidebook). Casa Howard (Florence) is located close to Santa Maria Novella, Casa Howard (Rome) close to the Spanish Steps – the ideal spots for accessing the city’s profusion of architectural treasures and shopping! Urban chic close to the action. Suave and surprising, the Casa Howard is located close to the Santa Maria Novella – an ideal spot for accessing the city’s profusion of architectural treasures. This is a Guest House, it is not in the hotel category (e.g. they do not have a concierge, nor do they provide porters etc); it is a private family’s houses partially opened to introduced paying guests. Former guests have a priority booking channel. A mix of quality-to-price ratio, uniqueness of location, private home heritage, and introduced guests approach deserved Casa Howard some awards and many many featuring on international press. It is an intriguing mix of private mansion and hip hotel, providing guest accommodation in stylish apartments. Eco attitude : see down *All the original floors and ceilings have been maintained, there are flourishes of pure silk taffeta at the windows, and many love the chic designer touches such as the occasional black silk sofa, sunken marble bath, full-wall padded bed head, mosaic inlay or 18th century French writing desk. For relaxation after a day’s exploration along the Via Tornabuoni, unwind in the hammam. ... more   less
