We have two nights in Florence... The first in a hotel booked in the uk which was gorgeous but boy this place is lush... Booked this morning for tonight via late rooms so was reduced rate... Our suite is beautiful and the shower heavenly... Air con great X Location excellent... Near the station but silent ... 5 minutes to central... More

We stayed at Casa Howard for our Honeymoon in June and it was incredible. We do not generally like spending a huge amount of time in hotels as we prefer to get out and experience everything, therefore the full 'hotel' experience is not something we need. The breakfast was simple yet exactly what we needed. We stayed in the white... More

I stayed here last week whilst attending a trade event in Florence. I chose this hotel as I know a lot of people who have stayed here and really rated it. It's a pensione rather than a hotel and is not staffed around the clock. When the staff are around they are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are comfortable,... More

I stayed at Casa Howard a few years ago. Yet the memory is still fresh. The location is convenient (close enough to the train station), but not quite upscale (although a few streets away you will find Cavalli Cafe and Via Tornabuoni). Once you buzz and get through the main entrance, it starts to feel a different world. Walk up... More

On our arrival to Florence by train this hotel was a very close walk. We walked past it two or three times because it does not have a sign. Watch your street numbers to help you find it. We had to be buzzed in so there is that safety. We walked a few flights of stairs and was met by... More

About 10 minutes walking distance from the main station, finding the actual hotel is a little tricky as you are greeted with either a closed timber door or iron grill and the wall plaque with the address is quite small. You need to 'buzz' to be allowed in, which meant good security. A very small lift just enabled the two... More

Comfortable room with free wi-fi and balcony. Bathroom was fine but it was difficult to keep our windows open since mosquitoes were coming in. It can get hot during the night. But the place is quiet, comfortable, nice hosts and the breakfast is delicious and generous. Great location close to the train station. I would go back.

Stopped over between Venice and Rome for a night and from the moment we walked into our room we wished we had planned to stay longer. 5 minute walk from the SMN train station and easy to find. We stayed in a ground floor room which was surprisingly very large. The bathroom alone was bigger than some of the hotel... More

Stayed for a couple of nights for sightseeing - excellent location with everything within walking distance and just around the corner from the train station. No real complaints, could get a little noisy down the street and a safe in the room would be a plus (although the hotel felt very safe). Overall would recommend to anyone looking for somewhere... Really pleased with the hotel. First impression wasn't great, doesn't look good for outside and had to ring bell to be let in but once inside, we were really impressed. Arrived at noon, two hours before advertised check I time but roo. Ready and checked in without hassle. Expedia advised that €80 payable but not requested (and no, they didn't... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
CASA HOWARD Guest Houses – Rome and Florence The Art of Hospitality. Casa Howard Guest Houses are not hotels. Each Casa Howard is a beautiful private house, in an outstanding location whether an apartment, palazzo or farmhouse, which gives personal service, and where some typically "hotel" ideas, methods and services have been borrowed. With uniquely designed, cosy rooms it’s like staying in a very relaxed, stylish friend’s home – as guests you get the keys of the house, you enjoy the original furniture and objects, you feel the atmosphere of the house. A mix of quality-to-price ratio, uniqueness of location, private home heritage and introduced guests approach deserved Casa Howard many featuring on the international press. Last but not least, CH are now in the bestselling 1000 Places to See before You die !!• A SENSORIAL EXPERIENCE : how different is the feeling of spending some days in a real private house rather than in a public grand hotel, in the top art city of the world! LUXE: we may not define CH a luxury place, rather a true exclusive place (nonetheless we are featured on most of the luxury guidebooks in the world, like the LUXE city book of Grant Thatcher or the LOUIS VUITTON guidebook). Casa Howard (Florence) is located close to Santa Maria Novella, Casa Howard (Rome) close to the Spanish Steps – the ideal spots for accessing the city’s profusion of architectural treasures and shopping! Urban chic close to the action. Suave and surprising, the Casa Howard is located close to the Santa Maria Novella – an ideal spot for accessing the city’s profusion of architectural treasures. This is a Guest House, it is not in the hotel category (e.g. they do not have a concierge, nor do they provide porters etc); it is a private family’s houses partially opened to introduced paying guests. Former guests have a priority booking channel. A mix of quality-to-price ratio, uniqueness of location, private home heritage, and introduced guests approach deserved Casa Howard some awards and many many featuring on international press. It is an intriguing mix of private mansion and hip hotel, providing guest accommodation in stylish apartments. Eco attitude : see down *All the original floors and ceilings have been maintained, there are flourishes of pure silk taffeta at the windows, and many love the chic designer touches such as the occasional black silk sofa, sunken marble bath, full-wall padded bed head, mosaic inlay or 18th century French writing desk.
