A small dinky lift takes you up to the 5th floor where the hotel is located. The rooms are pretty small but you get what you pay for in a tourist-heavy city like Florence. Bathroom was renovated compared to the room but toilet papers were one-piece tissues and the toiletries (shampoo and body wash) seemed a little sketchy. Upon checking... More

The location is excellent close to the railway station and 5 minutes walk to the Duomo and San Lorenzo market. We stayed for 5 nights at this hotel and it was a very positive experience. The hotel is split in 2 parts and we had a room in the part without a lobby which meant that we only met the... More

Hotel Ester is a 'Gem'! Marco and staff (there is a lady that answered all our questions and gave us tidbits about places/museums closing late on Tuesday nights! As well as Marco!) The room and ensuite bathroom was spacious (great shower) with Juliette balcony. 3 mins from Florence Santa Maria Novella train station. Neighborhood is urban (as in any city... More

A quirky hotel, reasonably priced and super secure (three keys to get in and out of). Large rooms, good bathroom and facilities in the lobby for tea, coffee etc. also small utility room that was very handy.

First stayed in July '14 and returned this summer. The rooms are excellent, views across the city from 22 & 23 are second to none. On both trips the rooms were clean with good WiFi, fridge, safe and air conditioning. The staff are very friendly, with a good knowledge of the area, and can't do enough to make you welcome.... Nice clean hotel with friendly helpful staff who have a good knowledge of Floence. Stayed in a room on the 5th floor with views of Florence. Room was clean and comfortable with air conditioning and elevator access. Had access to a communal kitchen. less than 5 minute walk to SM Novella Station. Small supermarket across the road from the hotel... More

This hotel in Florence seems to be in two parts and we got the extension. We first went to the main part and the receptionist guy took us to our annexe and was generally helpful. The lifts in the building were definitely from 1930! The whole place looked grim. (Next morning we had to go to a small local cafe... More

The area looks a little sketchy at first when walking from the train station. However, that's just Florence in general. (i.e. Full of swindlers trying to take your money). Nevertheless, when you walk up the stairs you are greeted by the best staff. We stayed here 4 nights. Each night we encountered a different staff member. They were all consistent with... More

Staying in San Lorenzo

Neighborhood Profile
San Lorenzo
San Lorenzo’s lively merchants shout out from behind stalls with an array of products in one of the most traditional neighborhoods in Florence. Different ethnic groups join together in the large outdoor market of San Lorenzo and in the Central Market, a vast multi-floored building. Visitors are bound to fall in love with this area and in particular, with its variety of food, especially those focusing on Florentine dishes as well as international selections. Nobody leaves San Lorenzo without a shopping bag in hand or with an empty stomach.
