We stayed at the Santa Maria Novella for 1 night prior to our Backroads Tour through Tuscany. The Hotel is right on the Piazza & within walking distance to all sights & shops. Our room was classed Superior & was quite spacious with a walk-in robe & large size bathroom with a bath. Both rooms had great views over the... More

Elegant, comfortable hotel. Perfect location and super staff. Dining room, stunning. Immaculate throughout. Interior colour schemes, subtle and well designed. Great little restaurant a few yards away with excellent, rustic Tuscan food. Can't wait to return.

We loved this hotel! This was our first trip to Florence, and to walk five minutes from the train station and be transported into a beautiful room in such a well-appointed hotel was magical. This is a 'full service' hotel - lots of professional staff at the desk, a cute little bar room (we had a nosh and a Negroni),... More

Stayed for 4 nights, centrally located, close to everything. Room was very good, comfy bed, good sized. Breakfast was served in a beautiful room , well three rooms actually! Selection was very good with food being replenished very quickly and efficiently. Prosecco available should you want it. Great coffee too!

I just got back from a girls trip to Florence and Tuscany. We stayed at this hotel the entire stay and did day trips to different hill towns each day. We were a 5 minute walk to the train and bus. The hotel has a beautiful piazza in front of it and is in a very safe area. You are... More

Excellent hotel, about five minutes walk from railway station and center of town. Hotel overlooks a lovely square and the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella. Staff were helpful, room was a good size albeit bathroom was smaller than usual. Unfortunately the rooftop patio was closed during our stay. Don't know why hotels in Europe turn the air-conditioning off as soon... More

Oh my, what can I say about this lovely hotel. First of all, when I was trying to book my trip I kept changing dates and Simone was so accommodating and helpful. I arrived and was helped to my room. The room was outstanding ... very large for a single room with a view over the Piazza. There was bottled... More

Booked on a recommendation from a family member and wondered if SMN Hotel would live up to high expectations but reality exceeded a glowing recommendation. Great location being a very short walk from SMN station, a short pleasant stroll to Il Duomo and we also enjoyed walking to many other major sites. We walked often to around Ponte Vecchio (taxied... Six of us stayed in three different rooms in this beautiful hotel in September. All three rooms had great views of the nearby church and the plaza. Our rooms were spacious and very comfortable. The bathroom was large, the shower great, and the room contained numerous toiletries. The breakfasts were fabulous! The people at the front desk were very friendly... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
