Me and my boyfriend have visited this hotel in August 2016 as a part of our hiking holiday across Italy. I think we couldn't have wished for more; rustic style, location, cleanliness and comfort was great. The only thing I consider as a con is the absence of air conditioning but in the end it's not a big deal at... More

On our second visit to Florence there was no question but that we would return to Hotel San Giovanni. It's location is unrivaled, right adjacent to the Duomo, its piazza and the Baptistry. There is only one very tiny lift to take you up two floors to the hotel. The managers speak only minimal english but are polite and friendly.... More

Hotel is steps away from the Duomo. The staff were polite and helpful. The room was clean and spacious. I read the bio and booked with a private bath (although the shared baths didn't seem crowded). We spent most of our time exploring Florence, but the 3 nights we stayed in the hotel were very comfortable. The building/hotel is very... More

We booked this hotel for it's location (which was amazing), the quirkiness of the rooms and facilities over the internet around six months before arrival. We arrived on our booked Saturday (early July 2015) around noon via train from Rome, in the midst of the heatwave that Italy was experiencing. Hot, frazzled, and ready to relax in a cool room... We stayed for just one night in the annex. It was renovated, with a nice bathroom. It was quiet and in a great location. The best part was the very helpful man who showed us to the annex - he might be the owner. He gave us plenty of great advice about where to go and eat etc in Florence,... More

Being right by the Duomo, you cant get a much better place to stay in Florence if you want to be central. Our room was enormous with very high ceilings and overlooked the street with a view of the Duomo. It was clean and there was a tall fan to move around. It was certainly worth the £45 or so... More

The Hotel San Giovanni is in a very old building literally on the Piazza del Duomo. We walked from the Florence railway station with our suitcases in 10 minutes. There is a tiny old elevator which can take your luggage up a few flights to the hotel. We initially had a rather large room complete with a renaissance fresco in... More

Great location. Traditional and quaint hotel. Needs updating a bit, but functional and clean. Nice big room for myself, husband and daughter. Very happy with three night stay. Breakfast nice. Walls quite thin and can hear neighbouribg rooms, but no problems Would stay there again.

We stayed in the annex next to San Lorenzo Church. We were a block from the Duomo, our favorite restaurant Zaza for dinner & the Mercato Centrale for breakfast and easy walking distance to most major attractions. Our room was clean, the bed comfortable and the private bathroom that we requested just fine. It was nice to have a shared... More

Great location next to Duomo and Baptistery. We were actually in the annex a block away in San Lorenzo square. A bit confusing upon arrival as there is no ground level reception. You have to buzz the button next to the gate to have them open it then go up 4 floors to the hotel. When you arrive there is... More

Neighborhood Profile
San Lorenzo
San Lorenzo’s lively merchants shout out from behind stalls with an array of products in one of the most traditional neighborhoods in Florence. Different ethnic groups join together in the large outdoor market of San Lorenzo and in the Central Market, a vast multi-floored building. Visitors are bound to fall in love with this area and in particular, with its variety of food, especially those focusing on Florentine dishes as well as international selections. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hotel San Giovanni is a characteristic old worldly Florentine pensione. It is located in the heart of Florence's historical center right on the corner of Piazza San Giovanni (the cathedral square). This superb location means all of city museums, galleries and other tourist attractions are within a short walking distance from the hotel. The hotel is located in two medieval tower buildings that in the 16th century became the bishops private residence. Today it is still possible to see in some of the rooms the original frescos.
