We tried to find a nice hotel in Florence for a reasonable price, Hotel Giglio exceeded our expectations. This is mainly because the staff were fantastic, very helpful in recommending tours and sights. They have internet available and we also got a ride back to the railway station which we hadn't expected. The room was better furnished than many of... More

After a tiring walk from the railway station it was a relief to be swiftly checked into our high-ceilinged double room. When booking we had asked for a bathroom with a full sized bath tub, but we were delighted to find we had a whirlpool bath. This turned out to be a real bonus after long days of walking round... i stayed for 3 nights in summer of 2008 and had a great time. Loved the location - close enough to the centre but far away from the noise and bustle of it (pleasant walk of about 15- 20 mins). I will always try and get back to florence and stay at giglio for at least a night when in... More

A terrific hotel in an excellent location - just a fifteen minute walk to the Duomo. Huge room with far better audio-visual setup than I have at home! Very helpful staff, extensive breakfast, free internet access, even gave us a lift to the train station on departure. If I go back to Florence I shall be looking to stay here... More

nice quiet little place, quiet comfortable, inside an old building. the service was very good, and the place had the friendliest and most helpful staff we have come across in Italy. We were offered a ride to the railway station when we checked out. the breakfast was good too. the only drawback however was that the place was decent walk... More

Hotel Giglio is by far the most friendly hotel we've stayed at over the years. The hotel has a two person (or one person plus luggage) elevator and you are buzzed-inn from the street during the evening hours which is wonderful from a security perspective.Because it's a family owned hotel, the level of customer service is outstanding and Roberto and... this hotel was probably typical europe hotel. Small lobby and hotel, very small elevator - 1 person and suitcase - quaint. The rooms where fair in size, TV is a small 13 inch TV with a separate VCR. there are no movies on demand, but after a long day in Florence you can relax with a video of your choice... More

We stayed 3 nights at the Hotel Giglio and enjoyed our stay. The room was clean and spacious. The front desk was friendly and helpful and as other posters have noted, they very graciously offered us a ride to the train station, which we really appreciated. It was not a bad walk, but the sidewalks are rather narrow and I... More

This hotel is truly a great value. The room for 4 people was large and clean with a nice bathroom. The breakfast in the morning was very nice - a delicious assortment of pastries and freshly made cappucino. We were able to walk to everything in the city. The street was quiet and we were able to sleep with our... More

Hotel Giglio was a great place to stay while in Florence. The hotel itself was incredibly comfortable, and our room was beyond spacious. The concierge was very helpful and knowledgeable. The breakfast was terrific - the best we'd had in our 5 hotels during a whirl-wind European vacation. My only complaint was that the location was a bit further on... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence, surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking students provides the tranquil surroundings for the elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read the daily newspaper. Home to several universities, including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A bridge connecting the modern cultural activity of Florence to its classic art, represented by the everlasting magnificence of the original David, resonates as a symbol of Florence and of Italy as a whole. Get lost in a Neoclassic world, a journey back in time through historic buildings like Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), San Marco church, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, and natural jewels like the Botanical Gardens.
