It is a great budget hotel and very suitable if you wish to be in the heart of Florence. The double room was very clean and also was the bathroom. Breakfast is poor but ok for a so small hotel.Great and helpful staff!!! I totaly suggest it!

Traveling throughout Italy, my husband and I arrived in the Florence train station without a room and called a budget hotel highly recommended in our Fodor's book-- but the line was continually busy. Becoming impatient, we flipped through the book again and tried Nuova Italia. I was warmly greeted on the phone by the owner, who (in his exceptional English)...

This is a true find. You couldn't get a better location. Walking distance from the train and bus stations. This comes in handy for day trips to Sienna, San Gimignano etc. Right around the corner from the San Lorenzo market. Walking distance from the Duomo, Medici Chapels, the Baptistry with its incredible Ghiberti bronze doors. Rooms are very clean and...

I didn't prepare my visit to Florence by reading the reviews on this site. So I took a walk from the station and looking for a quiet hotel. After a 5 minutes walk I found one in a small street and try to use the opportunity to visit an unknown hotel. Well I was really suprised by the low rates,...

Recommended budget hotel. The thing with the Nuovo Italia Florence is its obvious accent on friendliness and family atmosphere which is what it's like - a close-knit, cosy, typical Italian no frills hotel. The rooms are what you might expect from a budget hotel, it ain't luxurious but for the amount of time you actually spend in your hotel room?...

My mother and I stayed at the Nuova Italia for 3 nights while in Florence on vacation. The hotel was very conveniently located only a short distance from the major train station. The hotel staff was very pleasant and spoke great English. Our room was by far the largest we stayed in in all of Europe. The bathroom was also...

We found this dreadful hotel in Frommer's Guide. Obviously no one from there has seen this place in years. There are lots of stairs, room was totally devoid of any charm or pleasant decor and there were flies in the window. But we really couldn't open the window anyway after discovering the noise from San Lorenzo market carts which were...

Staying in San Lorenzo

Neighborhood Profile
San Lorenzo
San Lorenzo’s lively merchants shout out from behind stalls with an array of products in one of the most traditional neighborhoods in Florence. Different ethnic groups join together in the large outdoor market of San Lorenzo and in the Central Market, a vast multi-floored building. Visitors are bound to fall in love with this area and in particular, with its variety of food, especially those focusing on Florentine dishes as well as international selections. Nobody leaves San Lorenzo without a shopping bag in hand or with an empty stomach.
