A very nice first impression. But as per some of the negative reviews, this hotel could use a little self evaluation. The rooms are nice but small. Although no more than the rest of the E.U. WiFi is way to expensive. ( 10eu/day ) breakfast is typical. The staff could put a little more effort into improving their people skills.... More

Let me start off with saying that the staff has no character. Our room was located on the second floor but the hall to get to our room was a little dark; better lighting would be great. Didn't care much more the room; it was clean though. Wifi is expensive and breakfast wasn't good. The only good thing is the... More

Don't let the name or the outside fool you. Once inside, Hotel California is a wonderfully accomodating hotel. The staff is friendly and very responsive to your requests. The room is a little heavy on the decor, etc. and the furniture is a bit worn, but the mattress is new and comfortable and most of all.... the air conditioning works... More

The location makes this hotel worthwhile. It's located very close to the centre of Florence and everything is within easy walking distance. The hotel itself is okay. It's clean and the rooms are serviceable, but nothing exceptional. The free breakfast has yogurt and fresh fruit, but the pastries were stale. WiFi wasn't included in our room rate and we decided... We had three rooms here on a Rick Steves tour. We had stayed in several hotels in a Italy and this was by far the least comfortable. It is close to everything and easy to find. The air conditioning is spotty, works in some rooms, not in others. Several people in our tour group had little to no AC and... More

We book at Gironi al Duomo but was book in spite of paying the reservation 2 months in advance so we were directed to Hotel California. Good location but room was very warm and staff was not helpful at all, even refused to give me his name. Breakfast was also poor. Date July 19 2015

I have stayed here three times over the last 6 years, usually with a group of students, primarily for the location. The location can't be beat. Within a block in either direction you are at the Academia or the Duomo and everything else is an easy walk as well. (There is even a laundry near by. However, my room this... More

Oh my, where to start with disappointment related to this Hotel? 4 star hotel that is charging 200 Euros per night absolutely should not look like this. Entrance to Hotel looks like entrance to a garage. Reception floor does not feel and look like you are in 4 star Hotel in Florence but more like apartment of guy who just... More

We stayed at the Hotel California as part of a Rick Steves Tour. It was the largest of the hotels we stayed at, with a large lobby and breakfast room. The staff was very impersonal as I expected at a larger hotel. We had a giant room with beautiful modern bathroom and a patio. Free wi fi, the usual terrible... More

We stayed here as part of a Rick Steves' Tour of Northern Italy. Great rooms and service in all respects. Close to the Duomo, and Uffizi, Accademia, and Galileo Museums. There is a wonderful outdoor lounge and bar area on the upper floor with a view of the Duomo (dome top) and the surrounding rooftops. Lots of dining and shopping... More

Staying in Duomo

Neighborhood Profile
Duomo
Florentia, as it was called by Latins, is permeated by an eternal beauty spread in all corners of the city. The historic center is characterized by the immensity of the Duomo, able to transport tourists into the brightest age of Florence: the Renaissance. Who does not know the Brunelleschi Dome, San Giovanni Baptistery and the Giotto’s Campanile? Everything is enclosed here and it would be easy to imagine the city as it was in ancient times, with maids walking in the main square and horses carrying coaches. Nowadays, roads are busy with street artists. Rustic Tuscan bakeries give way to fashion shops; just stop for a few minutes in the middle of Piazza della Repubblica to enjoy the colors and sweet melody of the carousel that will bring back great memories from anyone’s childhood.
